MSU wins the Duel in the D, sweeps weekend series against Michigan

Michigan State has completed the weekend sweep, defeating Michigan on Friday night, 5-1, and following it up with a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

Saturday’s contest was the latest edition of the Duel in the D series, a game played at the Detroit Red Wings’ Little Caesars Arena for the Iron D trophy.

The Spartans were led by the All-American caliber goaltender Trey Augustine, who had 36 saves in the contest.

MSU’s three goals came by way of Tanner Kelly, Tiernan Shoudy and Karsen Dorwart.

The Spartans have now officially won the regular season series against the Wolverines, 3 games to 1, while clinching the first 20-win season the program has had since 2007-08.

Michigan State will be off next weekend, and will return to the ice in two weeks at Munn Ice Arena for a weekend series against Ohio State.
