Cowboys come to life in free agency, sign LS Trent Sieg

From @ToddBrock24f7: Dallas will reportedly sign Sieg to a one-year deal worth slightly more than he made last season.

The Cowboys have agreed to their first signing of 2024 free agency.

But don’t expect this one to shake up the power rankings or have opponents quaking in their cleats.

Dallas will re-sign long snapper Trent Sieg, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who cited a source for his Tuesday report.

The 28-year-old joined the Cowboys just last year, replacing Jake McQuaide in the role. His spot in the special teams battery helped punter Bryan Anger to a league-best net-yards-per-punt total and was a key to kicker Brandon Aubrey’s record-breaking success in his first NFL year.

Sieg made $1.23 million last season with the Cowboys after spending the previous five years with the Raiders. His new deal with Dallas is said to be a one-year contract worth $1.29 million, with $1.15 million guaranteed.

Cowboys sign veteran long snapper Trent Sieg after McQuaide loss

Sieg played with the Raiders for five seasons and was released just last week, around the same time Jake McQuaide left for Detroit. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The Cowboys have landed a new long snapper from the waters of free agency.

Trent Sieg will now wear the star after Dallas signed him to a one-year contract on Wednesday, per the team website.

The 27-year-old had been with the Raiders for five seasons. He first came aboard for Oakland as an injury replacement early in the 2018 season and never gave the job back. After their move to Las Vegas, the club signed Sieg to a three-year contract extension in March 2021.

Sieg was released last week after the Raiders inked a new specialist at the position. The Cowboys, coincidentally, found themselves in the market for a long snapper at about the same time, after Jake McQuaide signed to play for Detroit. Matt Overton, who filled in for McQuaide after an early-October triceps tear, is also a free agent this offseason.

Sieg played his college ball at Colorado State and was a teammate of current Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup.

Raiders DE Maxx Crosby, K Daniel Carlson named AP 2nd Team All-Pro

Raiders land two on All-Pro 2nd Team

Just one Raiders player was named First Team All-Pro. That’s punter AJ Cole who got it with 21 votes. But he wasn’t alone in the voting. Two other Raiders got enough votes to earn themselves a place on the Second Team.

DE Maxx Crosby got six All-Pro votes, which landed him on the second team along with Robert Quinn. TJ Watt and Myles Garrett made the First Team. Crosby led the NFL with 101 pressures, but his eight sacks weren’t enough to compete with Garrett’s 16 and certainly not Watt’s new NFL record 22.5 sacks.

K Daniel Carlson had a tremendous season, but found himself behind Justin Tucker in the voting. Carlson received eight votes and was named to the Second Team.

Just missing the cut was Cole and Carlson’s long snapper Trent Sieg whose four votes was tied for third.

Also receiving votes was LB Denzel Perryman (2) putting him tied for ninth in the voting. Perryman made his first ever Pro Bowl this year after leading the NFL in tackles much of the season.

Raiders sign free agent LS Carson Tinker with Trent Sieg on reserve/COVID-19 list

Raiders sign free agent LS Carson Tinker with Trent Sieg on reserve/COVID-19 list

Suddenly, among all the other roster shuffling that must happen for various reasons, the Raiders also needed to sign a long snapper this week. That’s because usual long snapper Trent Sieg was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, making his status uncertain for the team’s game against Washington on Sunday.

The new long snapper is former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker turned long snapper Carson Tinker.

“We had a couple options, a couple different guys, and he played recently, played in over 70 games,” Raiders Interim head coach Rich Bisaccia said of Tinker. “He’s got a lot of experience and I think he played as recently as three weeks ago, so we’re fortunate we can get him in here. He passed all the protocol and he had a good day today and he’ll be a little bit better tomorrow. So, we’re glad to have him right now.”

Tinker was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just a couple weeks ago. Prior to that he spent six years with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has appeared in 77 career games.

And as it happened, the last game Tinker played with the Bucs came against this same Washington team back on November 14.
