Will cornerback still be the top priority after the Patrick Peterson signing?
After eight weeks, we are seeing a clearer and clearer picture of where things are headed for the Minnesota Vikings.
This past week, the team added three cornerbacks, including Patrick Peterson. With those additions, the dire need for cornerback has dwindled, but it hasn’t gone away. The only cornerback on the roster after the 2022 season is Cameron Dantzler, and that’s not something you can roll with.
At No. 12 on the NFL draft board, there are a myriad of options they can go with, as just about any prospect makes sense outside of offensive tackle. Regardless of who they select, they will need to make an impact on day one, as the Vikings are setting themselves up to make a Super Bowl run.
The Washington CB prospect could be a name to watch if he doesn’t get drafted early in the first round.
The Arizona Cardinals have the 23rd pick in the 2022 NFL draft and there are a number of directions they could go with that first pick, but there is definitely a player they like.
We recently heard that the Cardinals are one of a few teams with serious interest in Washington cornerback prospect Trent McDuffie.
He is expected to be drafted in the first round and might not even be available for the Cardinals to draft. However, if he is on the board, he will certainly be in the mix.
According to Nathan Mathison of the University of Washington’s “The Daily,” McDuffie said at his pro day that the Cardinals were one of two teams with whom he had built “a really strong relationship.”
There is a Washington connection in Arizona. The Cardinals have been fans of Washington defensive backs for years. They have cornerback Byron Murphy and safety Budda Baker, both of whom the Cardionals drafted in the second round, and linebacker Zeke Turner, who played safety at Washington, who will be back in 2022 for his fifth season with the team.
Keep an eye on McDuffie if he ends up sliding in the first round at all. He just might end up being the Cardinals’ pick at No. 23 if he is still there.

McDuffie could be in the mix for the Cardinals with the 23rd overall pick in the first round.
The NFL Draft is at the end of the month and the Arizona Cardinals have the 23rd selection of the first round. They could go a number of ways with their first-round selection.
Many would love to see the Cardinals go with a receiver, but they apparently have interest in a cornerback.
According to Jordan Schultz, the Cardinals are one of several teams, including the Bills, Saints, Ravens and Eagles, who are “all in” on Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie.
Mock drafts have McDuffie going anywhere from the middle of the first round to the second round.
McDuffie is 5-1 and 193 pounds with the requisite athleticism to be successful in the pros. He ran the 40 in 4.44 seconds at the combine. He added a 38.5-inch vertical leap at his pro day.
The Cardinals have a history of liking Washington defensive backs. They have safety Budda Baker, cornerback Byron Murphy and linebacker (former college safety) Zeke Turner, all who played collegiately at Washington.
He will be a player to watch on draft night. The Cardinals have three cornerbacks they like for the starting lineup, but you can never have enough quality cover guys.
McDuffie is viewed as one of the top cover corners in the draft.
He could end up bing the pick at No. 23 for Arizona.
The Baltimore Ravens selected a cornerback in the latest 2022 NFL mock draft by CBS Sports
The Baltimore Ravens currently hold the No. 14 overall selection in the 2022 NFL draft. They also have 10 total picks including nine in the first four rounds, making draft weekend a key time to improve the roster for general manager Eric DeCosta and company.
In his latest 2022 NFL mock draft, Kyle Stackpole of CBS Sports made a selection for each pick in the first round. For Baltimore, Stackpole selected University of Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie and explained that despite his size, he’s a very sound prospect that can do it all.
“McDuffie’s biggest knock is that he’s 5-foot-11 and has sub-30 inch arms, but aside from that he’s rock solid. He’s scheme versatile, position versatile, a great athlete, instinctual, physical and a stout tackler. He would thrive in the Ravens secondary playing alongside the elite trio of Marlon Humphrey, Marcus Peters and Marcus Williams.”

Touchdown Wire’s Laurie Fitzpatrick identifies the best defensive schemes for the top cornerbacks in the 2022 NFL draft.
A compelling storyline heading into the 2022 NFL draft is who will be the first cornerback off the board. Some analysts have been eyeing LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. in the top spot ever since his freshman season in 2019. Others have elevated Cincinnati’s Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner to the head of the class following his performance at the NFL combine. Washington’s Trent McDuffie also is in the mix.
As the draft approaches, these three cornerbacks are being evaluated, compared and contrasted with each other. Draft guides and scouting reports sometimes provide too much information, making it difficult to come to a conclusion on the guy.
Teams will be considering how each prospect’s style of play fits with their defense. With that in mind, let’s examine Stingley, Gardner and McDuffie to identify how they fit in the three defensive schemes: zone, man and match coverage.
