Player grades: SGA & Tre Mann combine for 58 points in 108-94 win over Clippers

The Thunder are already benefitting from the Paul George trade with SGA & Tre Mann leading them to their first win of the season against the Clippers.

The return of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander after a one-game absence helped the Oklahoma City Thunder earn their first win of the season against an LA Clippers squad that was missing Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

The Thunder defeated the Clippers, 108-94.

Ball security won this game for the Thunder, as the Clippers turned the ball over 18 times — resulting in the Thunder attempting 27 more field goal attempts. The shooting splits weren’t pretty — as the Thunder shot 4-of-30 (13.3%) from three — but when you shoot the ball that many more times than the opposition, it creates a lot of room for error.

The Clippers were led by Luke Kennard, who scored 15 points. John Wall also added 12 points off the bench.

For the Thunder, the starting backcourt of Gilgeous-Alexander and Tre Mann stood out with 58 combined points. Aaron Wiggins played solid in his first start of the season and Lu Dort’s shooting woes worsen.

Let’s take a look at four Thunder player grades from the 14-point win.

Player grades: Injury-riddled Thunder loses home opener to Timberwolves, 116-106

By the start of the fourth quarter, the Thunder were without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey & Jalen Williams.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were without Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams on Sunday morning.

By Sunday afternoon, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was also ruled out with a left hip contusion.

During the third quarter, Josh Giddey was also shelved with a right ankle sprain.

Despite the season being just three games young, the Thunder can’t seem to escape the injury bug that’s devastated them in the last couple of years.

As a result, the shorthanded Thunder was not able to avenge their season-opening loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 116-106 defeat.

A once-packed Thunder home crowd slowly lost its energy as the night got darker and by the end of the game, the crowd’s color became grayer with empty seats.

The Timberwolves were led by Anthony Edwards — who surpassed the 11 points he scored last time against the Thunder in the first quarter and finished with 30 points total.

After being showered with boos before the game, Rudy Gobert was able to add 15 points and 15 rebounds in the Timberwolves win. Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Let’s take a look at player grades for the Thunder in their third consecutive loss to open the 2022-23 regular season.

Player grades: Thunder loses to Nuggets, 122-117, in game that saw 11 ties and 11 lead changes

The Thunder are still seeking their first win of the season.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Denver Nuggets continue their newly-found tradition of playing entertaining close games.

In the first of four matchups this season, the Thunder came up short against the Nuggets and lost 122-117 in a game that saw 11 ties and 11 lead changes.

The Thunder offense was not able to keep up with the Nuggets down the stretch and resorted to intentionally fouling the Nuggets in the final moments of the game.

The Nuggets were able to win this with their flame-throwing outside shooting as they shot 20-of-38 (52.6 percent) from three this game and scored 122 points in regulation. The Thunder matched up well with the Nuggets in this department as they shot 15-of-38 (39.5 percent) from three.

Ultimately, the lack of experience and talent on the Thunder is what cost them this game in the final minutes as there were multiple possessions that went bad quickly.

The Nuggets were led by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who finished with a triple-double of 19 points, 16 rebounds and 13 assists. Michael Porter Jr. added 22 points and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s six threes contributed to his 21 points.

For the Thunder, let’s take a look at player grades for the five players that stood out the most in this valiant loss.

OKC Thunder pick up 2023-24 options on Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and Aleksej Pokusevski

The Thunder made three easy decisions official on Saturday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Saturday they had picked up the 2023-24 options on Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and Aleksej Pokusevski.

Giddey and Mann are in their third seasons while Pokusevski is in his fourth.

None of these moves are surprising. All three have played well enough or have shown enough flashes to get their team option picked up on their first-round rookie deals.

Giddey is set to make $6.6 million, Mann is set to make $3.2 million and Pokusevski is set to make $5 million.

Pokusevski also will be eligible for a contract extension next offseason, so the Thunder could lock the 20-year-old up for the long term if they choose to do so.

Player grades: Jalen Williams’ fourth quarter leads Thunder to 118-112 preseason win over Spurs

The Thunder finish preseason with a 5-1 record as they prepare to play games of consequence.

The Oklahoma City Thunder capped off their preseason with the most exciting installment of the six-game campaign.

In a back-and-forth contest that took all four quarters to put away, the Thunder were able to defeat the San Antonio Spurs, 118-112 and finish preseason with a 5-1 record.

This was a well-balanced attack from the offense as seven of the 12 players who touched the floor scored at least eight points. The Thunder shot 40-of-86 (46.5 percent) from the field.

For the Spurs, Josh Primo scored 23 points, Keldon Johnson scored 19 points and Devin Vessell scored 18 points.

Let’s take a look at player grades from this fun win as the team prepares to play games of consequence soon.

OKC Thunder player grades: Tre Mann, two-way players impress in blowout preseason win over NBL’s 36ers

Tre Mann, Eugene Omoruyi and Lindy Waters III each showed out in their own way against the NBL’s Adelaide 36ers.

The Oklahoma City Thunder made sure to not make the same mistake the Phoenix Suns did by starting out strong against the NBL’s Adelaide 36ers in a 33-point loss, 131-98.

The Thunder led the entire way with a lead as large as 40 points.

This game marked the first time Josh Giddey played his first game against his former NBL team since being drafted by the Thunder sixth overall in the 2021 NBA draft.

But the star of the game was Tre Mann — who continues to impress in the preseason after spending all offseason long gaining muscle. Mann scored 26 points and shot 8-of-10 from deep.

Let’s take a look at player grades in the Thunder’s dominating preseason win over the 36ers.

OKC Thunder player grades: Second-year backcourt leads the way in 112-101 preseason win over Nuggets

A depleted Thunder starting lineup kept up with a healthy Nuggets starting lineup.

The Oklahoma City Thunder started off their preseason campaign with an impressive win over the Denver Nuggets that was highlighted by an even more impressive first quarter.

The Thunder were able to defeat the Nuggets, 112-101, but the results of preseason games don’t matter. What does matter is how good the depleted Thunder starting lineup looked against the fully healthy Nuggets starting lineup.

Backcourt duo Josh Giddey and Tre Mann led the way for the Thunder as they combined to score 31 points on 12-of-22 shooting.

Aaron Wiggins and Jalen Williams also impressed in their preseason debut off of the bench. Here are player grades for all four players.

OKC Thunder player grades: Ousmane Dieng, Tre Mann play best game in summer league win over Kings

Ousmane Dieng and Tre Mann took advantage of their ball-handling possessions.

The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to escape Wednesday with a summer league win over the Sacramento Kings, 86-80.

The Thunder led comfortably for most of the game, but a 27-18 scoring advantage by the Kings in the fourth quarter was a cause of concern for a win.

Either way, the result of the game was inconsequential. The bright spots from this win was the fact that Tre Mann and Ousmane Dieng — two players who’ve struggled offensively so far in summer league — had their best games by far.

Let’s take a look at player grades as the Thunder win their fourth summer league game.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Tre Mann announced engagement with girlfriend on Instagram

It’s been quite the calendar year for the 21-year-old.

I think it’s fair to say Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Tre Mann has had the calendar year of his 21-year-old life.

Mann was drafted 18th by the Thunder in the 2021 NBA draft and had a great season. He averaged 10.4 points while shooting 36% from three on 4.5 attempts per game.

On Tuesday, Mann took to Instagram to announce to the world that he is officially engaged.

Hopefully, the good vibes carry into next season as Mann tries to establish himself in the league as a quality scoring guard. With the Thunder potentially adding up to four rookies next season, the fight for rotation minutes will include Mann.

The 12 best scoring games for a Thunder player during the 2021-22 regular season

10 of the 12 spots on the list belong to one player.

With the 2021-22 season in the books, let’s take a look at the 12 highest scoring games a player on the Oklahoma City Thunder had during the 82-game campaign. The Thunder, who were arguably the worst offensive team in the league last season, don’t have much to brag about in terms of individual scoring outputs as the season-high for a player was just 39 points.

As one will see here soon as well, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dominates the list despite missing significant time this season. The Thunder lack scoring talent but will hope that will soon change with whoever the team selects second overall in the 2022 NBA draft.
