Five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson cancels visits, is down to two schools

Tre Johnson is down to two schools as the a decision is fast approaching.

Tre Johnson seems to be winding down his recruitment with the five-star guard canceling the remainder of his visits.

The class of 2025 recruit is down to Baylor and Texas, with Johnson cutting programs Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Kentucky from his final list. A 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Link Academy (Dallas), Johnson is a consensus five-star recruit and is ranked a top-five player nationally by all four recruiting services.

He is the No. 4 recruit in the nation according to ESPN and for good reason. Johnson is a confident and creative scorer who has the ability to create off the dribble. He has a nice touch on his jump shot.

There is good range to his game and he is effective when posting up.

According to the On3 Prediction Machine, Baylor is the favorite to land Johnson at 38.2 percent. Predictably, it is Texas at second with 33.4 percent.

His father, Richard Johnson, played his college basketball at Baylor and Midwestern State. He is in the Hall of Honor at Midwestern.

Alabama basketball listed as a top-six finalist for the No. 1 player in the 2024 class

Alabama basketball in the hunt for the top player in the 2024 recruiting class

Tre Johnson, the No. 1 player in the 2024 recruiting cycle, has narrowed his list down to six schools, including the Crimson Tide. It will be an all-out war to land his commitment as Alabama is up against some very reputable programs such as Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas and Baylor.

Johnson is a 6-foot-5, 180 pound shooting guard out of Dallas, Texas who is already a very polished shooter. He’s great in a spot-up shooting type of role but also has the ability to create his own shot with such a lengthy frame. He has the ability to get hot and take a game over at any minute. Johnson has already scored 2,000 career points in high school and has been lighting it up on the spring AAU tour.

The only other time Alabama landed the No. 1 player coming out of high school was Brandon Miller; needless to say, he was sensational for the Tide. Oats’ has been incredible on the recruiting trail during his tenure in Tuscaloosa, and the addition of Johnson would really keep that momentum going.

All schools make sense for Johnson, but if he wants to be the guy, Alabama makes the most sense. He will essentially have a green light anytime he crosses over half court and will have a chance to grow and improve on the defensive end.

High School Basketball: Counting down the top 24 recruits in the class of 2024

Here is every five-star rating player in the class.

It’s still early in the game, but let’s take a look ahead at the top high school basketball prospects in the recruiting class of 2024. Here is every composite five-star rating in the class. As it happens, there are 24 of them.

Top ranked 2024 shooting guard Tre Johnson speaks on his top schools

Five-star shooting guard Tre Johnson is at the top of the recruiting board for many premier programs across the nation. Continue reading “Top ranked 2024 shooting guard Tre Johnson speaks on his top schools”

Are Tar Heels amping up pursuit for five-star guard?

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are among the teams that this five-star recruit says is reaching out the most.

The pursuit for five-star shooting guard [autotag]Tre Johnson[/autotag] continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball staff. North Carolina has yet to land a commitment in the 2024 recruiting class but there’s no reason to worry as there’s a long ways to go.

And it appears as if the Tar Heels have their eyes on Johnson as one of the key recruits they are targeting.

The Dallas, Texas native is ranked No. 3 overall in the 247Sports recruiting rankings and with 18 offers in his recruitment, things are certainly heating up. Johnson recently caught up with Alex Karamanos of Circuit Scouting to dish on his recruitment and which teams are pursuing him the most:

Tre Johnson: “The most, I know Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Gonzaga, Arkansas, Kansas, LSU, Florida State, Texas, Baylor, and Stanford. Those are the main schools that have been hitting me up.”

Johnson is being pursued by blue bloods UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke as well as in-state programs Texas and Baylor. Gonzaga is also in the mix to land him as well.

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard is a player that does fit what Davis wants to do with his roster for the future so it’s not shocking to see the Tar Heels consistently reaching out. The next goal should be getting him on campus for a visit.

Report: 2024 five-star SG Tre Johnson sets Texas official visit

One of the nation’s best prospects is set to take an official visit to Texas.

One of the nation’s best high school prospects, Tre Johnson, has set an official visit date to Texas on Sept. 17.

The Dallas native is listed as the No. 1 player in the state of Texas and the No. 3 player overall in the 2024 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite. Johnson is a can’t miss talent with offers from all over the country.

247Sports recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins has glowing remarks about Johnson in his scouting report.

A long and lean perimeter prospect who shows a sweet stroke, Johnson is as true of a shooting guard as there is the 2024 class. He is trememdously skilled with an advanced game for his age. Johnson is a very good jumpshooter of the catch or utilizing the rhythm dribble and he loves the mid range game. He knows how to play and has a good feel for the game. I would like to see him improve as a ball handler and decision maker versus pressure in the backcourt to one day gain ultimate confidence in that area. Adding to that area of his game will only increase his versatility as a scorer but nevertheless Johnson is a polished high major talent with a tremendous upside.

Keeping a talent like Johnson in-state would be a monumental victory for Chris Beard and the Longhorns program. Texas will get to make the first impression for the five-star shooting guard.

Tar Heels five-star target hoping to visit Duke, Kentucky

This five-star UNC basketball recruiting target says he wants to visit Duke and Kentucky sometime this Summer.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program only have a handful of offers out to prospects in the 2024 recruiting class as they continue to set their board here this Summer.

One player that landed an offer from UNC is five-star shooting guard [autotag]Tre Johnson[/autotag]. The Dallas, Texas native is ranked No. 3 overall in the 2024 class per the 247Sports recruiting rankings and is starting to see his recruitment pick up here in July. Johnson has a total of 16 offers and has Blue Blood programs like UNC, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky after him.

So far, Johnson has taken unofficial visits to Baylor and Texas but it sounds like he’s ready to set up more. And the two he mentioned to Joe Tipton of On3 are Duke and Kentucky:

So far, Johnson has taken unofficial visits to Baylor and Texas. Where else does he want to visit?

“Kentucky and Duke, but I don’t have anything set up yet.”

The G-League Ignite pathway has also started to become an option for Johnson, as they reached out earlier this summer. In his words, what are the pros and cons of the G-League option?

The Tar Heels are still in the mix for Johnson and could get a visit down the line as well. However, seeing him list the Blue Devils and Wildcats means UNC has some tough competition ahead.

2024 UNC target put on ‘memorable display’ during June second live period

2024 UNC target Tre Johnson was terrific over the weekend during the June live period, putting on a ‘memorable display’ says one analyst.

Hubert Davis hasn’t been very active with class of 2024 prospects but one recent point guard who received an offer from the Tar Heels continues his breakout spring and summer.

2024 five-star guard [autotag]Tre Johnson [/autotag]has been arguably the top player in the class through the early parts of the summer evaluation periods and he continued his stellar play this past weekend.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Eric Bossi was at the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Showcase over the weekend and came away even more impressed with the 6-foot-5 Johnson than he was before.

“We are a few years deep into these scholastic evaluation periods and Johnson put on as memorable of a display as I have seen at any of them. The 6-foot-5 rising junior is thin and has a baby face but don’t let that fool you because he is 100% a killer on the floor. He is arguably the best jump shooter in the country, has impeccable footwork, plays with intensity, and has a deep bag of moves on the offensive end. He’s getting much bouncier and is turning into a real competitor on the defensive end. He’s ranked No. 3 nationally in 2024 and showed why all weekend long by dominating one high level matchup after another. His father played a season at Baylor and he’s been campus there, Texas and UCLA. Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, LSU, North Carolina all offered in the past two weeks.”

Johnson is a standout at Dallas Lake Highlands (Tx.) and ranked the No. 3 player in the class of 2024 by 247Sports.

However small it is, Johnson does have a family connection to Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. Johnson’s dad played one season at Baylor in college and crossed paths with the UNC head coach when Davis played for the Dallas Mavericks.

Johnson holds offers from Baylor, UNC, Duke, Kansas, Illinois, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, Texas, Tennessee and Oklahoma State among others.

Johnson is one of just four class of 2024 prospects who holds an offer from North Carolina.

UNC basketball offer ‘very big’ for 2024 five-star guard

Top-2 player in the class of 2024, Ian Jackson, talks about a ‘very big offer’ that he got from the UNC basketball program.

The UNC basketball program has been extremely selective when it comes extending offers to the class of 2024. As of now, only four players hold an offer from the Tar Heels.

Those three prospects are [autotag]Jarin Stevenson[/autotag], [autotag]Cam Scott[/autotag], [autotag]Tre Johnson[/autotag] and most recently [autotag]Ian Jackson[/autotag]. All three are top-30 players and all are five-stars.

The latest offer to Jackson was a ‘very big’ one for the New York native, according to On3.com.

“UNC, I want to get out there too. That was almost the same as Kentucky, really,” Jackson said of the UNC offer. “Just watching that team as I grew up, being a fan of Michael Jordan, and just knowing the history of the school and everything that comes with it, it’s very big for me.”

Jackson is a five-star prospect and consensus top-3 player in the class of 2024. He is ranked No. 2 in the 247Sports rankings and the On3 rankings. He is No. 3 in the Rivals rankings.

The 6-foot-5 guard was named to the U17 USA Basketball men’s national team that will compete in the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup in Málaga, Spain on July 2-10.

According to Joseph Tipton of On3.com, Jackson has three programs that he wants to visit: UNC, Kentucky and Oregon.

Jackson already holds additional offers from UConn, Kansas, UCLA, Seton Hall, St. John’s, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Kansas State and Nebraska.
