On Saturday, Michigan State football found out that they were losing defensive end Alex Okelo to the NCAA transfer portal. On Sunday, it was reported by Rainer Sabin of the Detroit Free Press that two more Spartans will be joining him as cornerback Kalon Gervin and linebacker Chase Kline both entered the portal.

Unlike Okelo, Gervin and Kline are upperclassmen, and both players were receiving less playing time than they might have liked. By transferring now, the two players will save a year of eligibility and find a new place where they can get playing time. Since they weren’t really playing anyway, this is a neutral move for MSU and nothing to be concerned about.

Michigan State football DE Alex Okelo enters transfer portal

DE Alex Okelo has entered the transfer portal

Mel Tucker is known for his recruiting prowess and being someone that is well-liked across the high school ranks. In 2021, Tucker has started his tenure at Michigan State with a strong class.

One member of that recruiting class will no longer be with the team. Alex Okelo, a defensive end from Tennessee, has entered the transfer portal.

Okelo, a 3-star ranked just inside the top-1000, did not appear on the roster to start this season.

This will thin Michigan State’s defensive end room, which means we should expect Michigan State to focus on defensive ends towards the end of this recruiting cycle and in the transfer portal.

Florida football loses edge rusher to this Pac-12 school

It looks like Andrew Chatfield has found a new home after just three weeks in the transfer portal.

Florida edge rusher Andrew Chatfield, a four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2018, is transferring to Oregon State.

Chatfield announced the move on Twitter after entering the transfer portal on Aug. 31. He suited up for the Gators in the season opener and against USF while staying on scholarship, leaving the door open for him to reconsider. But he ultimately chose to move on to OSU after visiting for last week’s blowout win over Idaho.

Chatfield played in all 12 games for the Gators last year and totaled 13 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. After dealing with injuries in fall camp, he found himself lower on the depth chart than he’d prefer.

In 2018, 247Sports rated Chatfield as the thirteenth best weak-side defensive end. Now he’s dropped to a three-star prospect as a transfer. He won’t be able to play for OSU this year, but Chatfield still has two years of eligibility left. Eager to get more playing time, he should be able to prove how good he truly is in the Pac-12.

A Wisconsin freshman RB has entered the transfer portal

A Wisconsin freshman RB has entered the transfer portal

Wisconsin true freshman running back Antwan Roberts has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a tweet from Badger247 insider Evan Flood.

Roberts entered the program this year as a three-star recruit, the No. 1130 prospect in the class of 2021, No. 81 running back and No. 32 player from his home state of Tennessee.

The news comes after the aftermath of a reported altercation between freshman RB Loyal Crawford and Roberts, one which resulted in Crawford being dismissed from the program and Roberts suspended.

We still do not know many details of what occurred. What is known: neither Crawford nor Roberts will be with the program moving forward.

Per 247Sports Former Sooners’ running back Tre Bradford re-enrolls at LSU

After departing the University of Oklahoma a week and a half ago, it became official late last night that Tre Bradford was returning to LSU per 247Sports.

The winding saga that is the Tre Bradford story has reached a conclusion, at least for now. Bradford, who transferred to the University of Oklahoma in the Spring from LSU left the program just a week and a half before the Oklahoma Sooners’ season opener.

According to reports at the time, he was looking toward returning to LSU. Well, it became official late last night that the former Tiger turned Sooner is now a Tiger again per 247Sports.

Bradford’s time with the Sooners never really got rolling and it’s still a mystery as to what went wrong here. Sooners’ head coach Lincoln Riley didn’t know what to say about the situation but admitted that Bradford was a player that they “flat out missed on” in the transfer portal.

It was incredibly unfortunate timing as the Sooners just lost Marcus Major to academic ineligibility. The Sooners running back depth took a hit two weeks ago with back-to-back losses to the group. Oklahoma has just two scholarship running backs on the depth chart in Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray. Walk-ons Jaden Knowles and Todd Hudson were expected to get snaps in the wake of the losses of Major and Bradford, but neither saw a touch in the Sooners 40-35 win over Tulane on Saturday.

The Tigers now get a player back who many in Norman thought very highly of. From his fellow running backs to running backs coach DeMarco Murray, to Lincoln Riley, each of them praised the ability he displayed in practices.

Lincoln Riley: “We flat out missed” on running back Tre Bradford

Tre Bradford’s decision to leave the Sooners left Lincoln Riley reflective when discussing the recent arrivals sudden departure.

It’s not often you hear Lincoln Riley talk much about players that were with the program and suddenly off the roster. Generally, it’s a short and sweet, “he’s no longer with the program” before moving on.

That wasn’t the case on Tuesday as the typically reserved Lincoln Riley was in a mood to speak on all sorts of situations with the team. It was most notable that he shared his thoughts on the Tre Bradford saga. Though he didn’t have an answer as to why Bradford left the program, it was evident that Riley was disappointed in his decision to reenter the transfer portal after joining the Sooners this Spring.

While they’ve had a ton of success in the past adding talent through the portal, when speaking with the media on Tuesday, Riley admitted that they missed on the former LSU running back.

“On that one, we swung and we obviously missed and we made a mistake,” Riley said.

Bradford transferred from LSU after last season. It’s been reported that he was exploring rejoining the Tigers.

“You’re not going to hit on every single one,” Riley said. “We missed on that one. I mean, we just flat-out did. And so, you know, you’re going to continue to go back, learn, evolve your processes, keep trying to figure out like we would in any situation … why did we miss? What did we miss? Could we have seen that?” – Ryan Aber, The Oklahoman

The timing is certainly strange as Bradford was staring at an increased role with the news that Marcus Major would be academically ineligible for the 2021 season. Bradford, who at worst would have been sharing carries in a reserve role with Major, looked to be in line for more work behind Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray.

Now, the Oklahoma Sooners will rely on walk-ons Todd Hudson and Jaden Knowles, each of whom had tremendous high school careers but haven’t been tested much at the collegiate level. Riley did mention in his press conference that the duo of Hudson and Knowles would have likely seen playing time before the attrition that hit the running back depth chart last week.

LSU looks to be Tre Bradford’s next destination as he enters the transfer portal, but who really knows where he’s headed at this point.

Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley: ‘we made a mistake’ on bringing in Tre Bradford

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley didn’t shy away from discussing Tre Bradford, calling it a mistake to bring in the former LSU Tiger.

Last week it was reported that former LSU Tigers running back Tre Bradford was no longer with the Oklahoma football program. Following spring football, the former four-star signee entered into the transfer portal. He landed in Norman, deciding on joining the Sooners.

Going into the season, Bradford was expected to be the No. 3 running back after Oklahoma had all sorts of issues going on with the position. Seth McGowan and Mikey Henderson were dismissed from the team. Marcus Major, who was expected to see time at the No. 3 back was ruled ineligible. This left Bradford as the guy behind Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray, which is out the window now.

Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley recently met with the media and discussed the situation with Bradford. He definitely didn’t mince his words, calling it a mistake.

The former LSU running back is back in the transfer portal, the early indications were that he wanted to return to Baton Rouge. There haven’t been any indications on if Bradford will indeed look to return to the team he originally signed with as part of the 2020 recruiting class.

Florida is losing this edge rusher to the transfer portal

A day after the Florida Gators added a defensive lineman they lose one to the transfer portal.

Florida defensive end Andrew Chatfield has entered the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.

Chatfield began to make a name for himself as an edge rusher in 202 but saw limited snaps thanks to a ton of depth at the position for Florida. As a redshirt sophomore last year, he played in all 12 games and compiled 13 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four tackles for loss.

Coach Dan Mullen said last week that an undisclosed injury had cause Chatfield to miss some time. Now the former four-star prospect will look for opportunities elsewhere. Coming out of high school, Chatfield was the No. 13 weak-side defensive end.

Chatfield doesn’t necessarily have to leave after entering his name in the portal. He can withdraw at any time, but he’s likely looking for an opportunity with two years of eligibility left. At the same time, UF is under no obligation to keep him on scholarship now that he’s entered the portal.

The good news for Florida is that the depth is still there. There are enough guys ready to contribute on the edge for the Gators that matchups shouldn’t be an issue. The effects of the transfer could be felt next year though, so the gap may need to be filled in recruiting.

Former LSU running back Tre Bradford is back in the transfer portal

Former LSU Tigers RB Tre Bradford is officially back in the transfer portal.

After the initial report that Tre Bradford had left the Oklahoma Sooners football program, he is back in the transfer portal. This was tweeted out initially by 247Sports.

Bradford spent his freshman season with the LSU Tigers. He carried the ball just 10 times for 58 yards and one receiving touchdown. Following spring camp, the former 2020 signee put his name in the transfer portal and eventually joined the Sooners. Just days ahead of Oklahoma’s season opener against Tulane, he is back in the portal.

Given his familiarity with the running back room, could Bradford find his way back to Baton Rouge with LSU? This is pure speculation, but it would make sense if he suddenly had a change of heart. Bradford was expected to be the No. 3 for Oklahoma, but with the injury concerns surrounding Tyrion Davis-Price and John Emery Jr, he could see more playing time this season with the Tigers.

The Tigers could use some depth at the running back position, I originally pitched the idea when the news broke. According to Jason Kersey of The Athletic, NCAA rules would allow Bradford to return to LSU. Provided he participated in less than 14 practices with OU, he could return to the Tigers and be immediately eligible.

Florida football lands former Auburn defensive lineman through transfer portal

Florida has a knack for picking up useful transfer students. Former Auburn Tiger Tyrone Truesdell joins the Gators.

Former Auburn Tiger Tyrone Truesdell is the third defensive tackle to transfer to Florida this season. He has enrolled at UF and will be eligible to play in 2021 for the Gators.

Truesdell joined Auburn as part of the 2017 recruiting class after considering Florida briefly. He became the starting defensive tackle for the Tigers in 2019 but faced some competition this year after coming back for an extra year of eligibility thanks to the NCAA’s COVID extension. Truesdell joins his old Auburn teammate Daquan Newkirk and Penn State transfer Antonio Valentino on the defensive line as transfers.

The addition comes just five days before the season begins for Florida, but it does help add depth should someone go down. Last year, defensive end Zachary Carter spent time up the middle to compensate for injuries. Three graduate transfer tackles with SEC/Big Ten experience is a good way to make sure Carter stays on the edge, where he’s more productive.

Truesdell’s transfer also takes some pressure off the younger names who figure to get into the mix on the line. While Gervon Dexter is expected to take a step forward this year, having the three graduate transfers with him will help in his fourth year of organized football.

Truesdell appeared in 44 games for Auburn and made 19 starts. He totaled 67 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries and three sacks. Coming out of high school, 247Sports rated the three-star prospect the No. 36 defensive tackle in the country.
