Watch: Zay Jones says he came up with Toy Story touchdown celebration

Zay Jones didn’t play in Week 4, but the receiver came up with the team’s “Andy’s coming!” touchdown celebration.

Zay Jones has been out of action the last two weeks due to a knee injury suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. But he still made an impact against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday … sort of.

In a “Sounds of the Game” video released by the Jaguars on Tuesday, Jones was shown telling Christian Kirk that the team’s coordinated “Toy Story” touchdown celebration was his idea.

After a pick-six by Jaguars cornerback Darious Williams, the team’s defensive players all flopped on the ground like Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the toys who heard Andy coming.

“In the locker room, before we boarded the plane, I said ‘I got the hardest celebration,'” Jones was shown telling Kirk. “Andy’s coming in the room, turn around, we fall out. Evan [Engram] goes ‘That’s boo boo.’ I said ‘Bro, no it’s not. It’s for the kids. 1995. Toy Story. It’s for the kids, man.'”

Unfortunately for Jones and Jaguars players, the touchdown celebration wasn’t on the ESPN+ broadcast as a shot of Desmond Ridder jogging off the field followed by a shot of the crowd celebrating were shown instead.

Watch: Toy Story highlights from Jaguars’ 23-7 win vs. Falcons

If you missed the “Toy Story” broadcast of the Jaguars’ 23-7 win, we’ve got all the highlights right here:

The Jacksonville Jaguars got their season back on the right track Sunday with a 23-7 win against the Atlanta Falcons. While fans packed the house at Wembley Stadium to watch the game, toys showed up at Andy’s room for an animated “Toy Story” version of the game.

Viewers had the opportunity to watch the alternate broadcast on Disney+. But if you missed it, here are the highlights from the Jaguars’ win in front of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and all your other favorite “Toy Story” characters:

And as a bonus, here’s the stunt performed by toy stuntman Duke Caboom during his special halftime presentation:

The “Toy Story Funday Football” broadcast was the first of its kind for the NFL made possible by trackers embedded in the pads of Jaguars and Falcons players. ESPN previously aired a similar broadcast of an NHL game with players animated into the world of the Disney Channel show, “Big City Greens.”

Social media has mixed reactions to Jaguars-Falcons ‘Toy Story’ stream

Some were impressed by the “Toy Story” themed stream of the Falcons vs. Jaguars. Not everyone, though.

The NFL, ESPN, and Disney teamed up for a unique broadcast Sunday when the Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons were animated into the world of “Toy Story.”

The innovative, kid-centric broadcast came with everything from Slinky Dog handling chains duty on the sideline and a claw machine spotting the football. It also had some choppiness and glitches that were too much for some viewers to handle.

Here’s a roundup of reactions to the Disney+ stream:

The alternate broadcast, which is exclusive to Disney+, is the first of its kind for an NFL game, but the second after an NHL game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals. Players in that game were animated into the world of the Disney Channel show “Big City Greens.”

At halftime of the Jaguars’ Week 4 game, they had a 17-0 lead thanks to a 30-yard touchdown from Trevor Lawrence to Calvin Ridley and a 61-yard pick six for Darious Williams.

ESPN aired an animated Toy Story version of the Falcons-Jaguars game, and NFL fans loved it

There were some glitches, but NFL fans seemed to love the Toy Story broadcast.

The NFL’s International Series games in London are always a delight for American football fans who get to enjoy football from the time they wake up in the morning.

On Sunday, ESPN gave those fans another way to enjoy the first international game of the season, adding a Toy Story-themed animated broadcast of the Atlanta Falcons vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game to its streaming service.

In theory, it was a cool idea. ESPN is obviously owned by Disney, which owns Pixar, which created Toy Story. They kept it in the family to create a family-friendly broadcast, and who doesn’t love Toy Story?

In practice, there were a few technical glitches, but for the most part, NFL fans loved it. Just look at the animated version of this Bijan Robinson juke.

Here’s a look at how fans reacted.

Here’s what Calvin Ridley’s 30-yard TD looked like in Toy Story world

Calvin Ridley gave the Jaguars an early lead on the carpet of Andy’s room.

The Jacksonville Jaguars struck first Sunday at Wembley Stadium, taking a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Trevor Lawrence found Calvin Ridley on a 30-yard touchdown pass.

It didn’t just occur in London, though. It also happened in Andy’s room where animated versions of the Jaguars and Falcons met for a game in the world of “Toy Story.”

Here’s what the Ridley touchdown grab looked like on the carpet of Andy’s room:

The kid-centric broadcast from Andy’s room can be streamed live on Disney+. And for those of you watching the “Toy Story” version in the first place, here’s what the real life touchdown pass looked like on ESPN+:

Ridley, who is facing his former team for the first time and was named an honorary captain for the game, now has two touchdowns in his first season with the Jaguars. It was also the fourth touchdown pass of the year for Lawrence.

ESPN will stream a live broadcast of an NFL game with Toy Story animation next month

You’ve got a friend in the NFL next month.

In what’s one of the most fascinating crossovers in recent memory, ESPN is bringing the NFL to the world of Toy Story for a live broadcast next month.

During the Atlanta Falcons and Jacksonville Jaguars game in London on Oct. 1, ESPN will bring an alternate streaming broadcast to the table that will reportedly be animated in real time from “Andy’s room.”

That’s right, the central location of some of the Toy Story movies will be fielding an NFL game played by toys.

Similar to the animated hockey game that ESPN featured this past NHL season with the Disney show Big City Greens, the Falcons/Jaguars game will be brought to live in Pixar style and in the Toy Story universe.

It’s unquestionably the first NFL game in history to utilize this very specific alternate broadcast style using animation and Pixar characters.

The Toy Story Funday Football game will broadcast on both Disney+ and ESPN+. We can’t guarantee how this will go, but we can confirm Sid will likely be ejected by halftime.

Jaguars vs. Falcons will have alternate ‘Toy Story’ broadcast via ESPN

Viewers on ESPN+ will be able to watch an animated version of the Jaguars’ Week 4 game from Andy’s room.

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Atlanta Falcons will have an alternate broadcast of their Week 4 game from Andy’s room, ESPN announced Monday.

The “Toy Story” themed broadcast will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Disney+ which will show animated versions of the two teams competing in real time.

Earlier this year, ESPN had a similarly kid-focused broadcast of an NHL game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals. Players in that game were animated into the world of the Disney Channel show “Big City Greens.”

According to an ESPN press release, characters such as Woody and Buzz Lightyear will all make appearances and players from the Jaguars and Falcons will contribute to the broadcast with pre-recorded segments and interviews.

The announcers for the alternate broadcast will be Drew Carter, Booger McFarland, and 12-year-old Pepper Parsley.

If you’d rather watch the usual ESPN broadcast, that’ll be available on your cable network along with ESPN+. Kickoff of that Oct. 1 game is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET.
