Maple Leafs at Capitals projected goalies

Joseph Woll (9-7-1, 2.89 GAA, .911 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (13-13-3, 3.29 GAA, .890 SV%, 1 SO)

Woll is likely to get the starting nod after Ilya Samsonov allowed 4 goals on 30 shots in a loss in Philadelphia. The Toronto backup has allowed 4 goals in each of his 2 March starts, which are losses at home and on the road against the Boston Bruins.

Kuemper was tuned up for 7 goals on 37 shots in a 7-2 road loss against the Edmonton Oilers last time out on Wednesday. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his past 6 starts. He suffered a loss on Oct. 24 in D.C. against the Leafs, allowing 4 goals on just 17 shots.

Maple Leafs at Capitals picks and predictions

Prediction

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

The CAPITALS (+120) are worth playing as short ‘dogs at home, as the Maple Leafs (-145) have a tough turnaround after losing in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

The Caps have won 3 in a row, and Washington has cashed in 5 of the past 7 outings, outscoring the competition 21-15 dating back to March 7.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Capitals +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward if you just can’t bring yourself to bet Washington straight up.

AVOID.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-120) is worth play lightly.

The Capitals have cashed the Over in 5 of the past 6 home games, while the total has gone high in 2 of the previous 4 outings.

For the Leafs, the Over has connected in 3 consecutive outings, with the Leafs going for 4.3 goals per game in the span, while coughing up 3.7 GPG. That’s a good recipe for plenty of Over results.

The Toronto Maple Leafs (38-19-9) travel to meet the Philadelphia Flyers (34-26-8) at Wells Fargo Center Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maple Leafs vs. Flyers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: Maple Leafs lead 2-0; Toronto won 6-2 in Philadelphia in their most recent meeting Thursday as the Over (6) cashed

The Maple Leafs suffered a 5-4 loss in a shootout at home against the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday as the Over (6) cashed. Toronto is still an impressive 12-3-1 in the past 16 games dating back to Feb. 13, including a 4-3 OT win in Toronto against the Flyers Feb. 15 and the 6-2 win in Philly Thursday.

Toronto has won 8 straight meetings in this series, outscoring Philadelphia 39-18. The Leafs have scored at least 4 goals in each of the past 7 victories in the series, with the Over going 5-0 in the past 5 outings and 6-0-1 in the previous 7.

The Flyers suffered a 6-5 loss against the Boston Bruins on the road Saturday, and they’re 1-3-0 in the past 4 games while being outscored 21-10. The Over has cashed in 3 of the past 4 outings for the Fly Guys.

Maple Leafs at Flyers projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (18-5-7, 3.09 GAA, .889 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Samuel Ersson (19-14-5, 2.67 GAA, .898 SV%, 3 SO)

Samsonov allowed 4 goals on 40 shots in a 5-4 SOL against the Hurricanes last time out Saturday. That snapped a 4-game winning streak. Samsonov is 4-0-1 with a 2.29 GAA and .925 SV% in 5 March starts, including a 6-2 win Thursday in Philadelphia when he stopped 26 of 28 shots.

Ersson was tagged for 3 goals on just 12 shots in a period of work against the Maple Leafs Thursday before being pulled. He is 2-3-1 with a 3.49 GAA and .879 SV% in 6 March starts.

Maple Leafs at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Flyers 2

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-130) are a solid play as moderate favorites, as they have dominated this series in recent seasons with 8 consecutive wins.

Toronto has been playing well in general, going 12-3-1 in the past 16 games dating back to Feb. 13 while winning 6 of the past 7 outings on the road.

The Flyers (+110) are just 1-3-0 in the past 4 games, while allowing at least 6 goals in each of the setbacks.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+180) is a strong play laying the goal-and-a-half. Toronto came in last week and won by 4 goals, and it has covered the puck line in 6 of the past 8 victories in this series, with each of those wins by at least 3 goals.

The Flyers +1.5 (-225) are 5-2 in the past 7 games on the puck line as underdogs, including 2 outright victories. But Philly can’t be trusted against Toronto lately.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (+100) is worth playing at even-money.

We had a combined 8 goals in the meeting Thursday between these teams, and Philly goaltending has coughed up at least 6 goals in 3 of the past 4 outings. The Over is 3-1 in those outings.

For the Leafs, the Over has cashed in the past 2 games, with Toronto scoring 10 goals while allowing 7. On the road, the Leafs have hit the Over at a 6-4-2 clip in the previous 12 outings.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Boston Bruins odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Boston Bruins odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Maple Leafs (36-18-8) and the Boston Bruins (36-13-15) meet Thursday at TD Garden. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maple Leafs vs. Bruins odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs outlasted the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday, rebounding nicely from a 4-1 loss to the Bruins on home ice Monday night. Toronto improved to 10-2-0 in the past 12 games, while the Under has cashed in 2 in a row and 3 of the past 4 outings, including the Boston game.

The Bruins lost 2-1 in OT to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, playing with no rest after toppling the Leafs in Toronto on Monday. The Under has cashed in the past 2 outings, while going 4-2 in the past 6 outings.

With Monday’s win, the B’s have won 6 consecutive meetings in this series, while Boston has won the past 3 on home ice, too. The total has gone low in 3 of the previous 4 meetings.

Maple Leafs at Bruins projected goalies

Joseph Woll (9-6-1, 2.82 GAA, .914 SV%) vs. Jeremy Swayman (20-6-8, 2.49 GAA, .921 SV%, 3 SO)

Woll turned aside 23 of the 27 shots he faced in Monday’s 4-1 loss against the Bruins. With the exception of a 3-minute span in the 1st period when he allowed an even-strength goal to Morgan Geekie, and a power-play goal to Pavel Zacha, Woll gave the Leafs a chance to win.

Swayman did win that previous meeting in Toronto, kicking aside 31 of the 32 shots he faced in the victory. With Linus Ullmark facing the Oilers, it’s Swayman’s turn in the goaltender rotation. The Alaskan native is 11-5-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .924 SV% with 2 of his season’s 3 shutouts at home.

Maple Leafs at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline

The BRUINS (-145) are moderate favorites, and they’re a sound bet on Thursday night in this rematch from Monday.

Boston has won 6 in a row in this series. And the Maple Leafs (+120) find themselves in the untenable position the B’s were in on Tuesday. Toronto played at home against Buffalo, and then had to hop a play to play a tough opponent on no rest. Granted, it’s not a long flight, but the charter flight of the Leafs didn’t arrive into Hanscom Field in suburban Boston until 1:08 a.m. ET, so it was a late night for the Buds.

The late night, and lack of rest, will favor the more rested Bruins.

Puck line/Against the spread

The BRUINS -1.5 (+155) are worth a roll of the dice at plus-money.

Boston crushed the Maple Leafs +1.5 (-190) in their barn, and now the Bruins get a chance to do it on their home ice surface. Boston covered the puck line on Monday, and there is no reason to believe its dominance in the series will suddenly cease.

Over/Under

The UNDER 6.5 (-125) is the lean, but you’ll have to pay a little extra.

The total has gone low in 3 of the past 4 meetings in this series, including 2 of the first 3 battles this season.

Toronto has consecutive Under results for the 1st time since Jan. 21-24, and the Under is 3-1 in the past 4 outings. For Boston, the Under has cashed in the past 2, and in 4 of the previous 6 contests.

Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Boston Bruins (35-13-14) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (35-17-8) meet Monday at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Bruins vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Bruins suffered a 5-1 setback on the road against the New York Islanders on Saturday, pushing against the total at most shops. The B’s have managed just a 3-3-5 mark across the past 11 outings, picking up 11 points out of a possible 22 in the span.

These teams have met twice this season, with Boston posting a 3-2 shootout win at TD Garden on Nov. 2 as a slight underdog, while the B’s won 4-3 in overtime in Toronto on Dec. 2. The Bruins have won 5 in a row in the series, although 4 of those victories are by a single goal.

The Maple Leafs edged the New York Rangers 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday, cashing the Over (6.5). The total has gone high at a 4-1-1 clip in the past 6 outings, while Toronto has won 8 of the previous 9 contests. The Leafs have scored 4 or more goals in 9 of the past 10 contests, averaging 4.8 goals per game (GPG) in the stretch.

Bruins at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Linus Ullmark (16-7-6, 2.80 GAA, .910 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Joseph Woll (9-5-1, 2.75 GAA, .918 SV%)

Ullmark allowed 5 goals on 26 shots in Saturday’s 5-1 road loss against the Islanders. He has allowed 3 or more goals in each of his past 4 starts, and he is winless in the past 5 starts since Feb. 8 against the Vancouver Canucks in a 17-save shutout.

Woll is projected to get the starting nod. He allowed just 2 goals on 32 shots Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes in a 4-2 victory after a 35-game absence due to injury. That was his 1st appearance since early December due to a high ankle sprain.

Bruins at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

The BRUINS (+110) are a good play on the road as short ‘dogs on the road.

While Boston suffered a 5-1 road loss against the Islanders last time out, the B’s have posted 5 straight victories in the series, although 4 of those wins are by a single goal, so be careful.

The Maple Leafs (-130) have won 9 of the past 10 games since Feb. 13, but Toronto has struggled over the years with Boston. Until the Leafs start to beat the Bruins on the regular, Toronto simply cannot be trusted.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Bruins +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward.

On the flip side, the Maple Leafs -1.5 (+170) have lost 5 in a row in the series, and Toronto is just 5-11 as a favorite on the puck line in the past 16 tries since Jan. 11.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The OVER 6 (-120) is worth a play, but go lightly.

The total has gone high at a 4-1-1 clip in the past 6 games for Toronto, while going 8-3-1 across the previous 12 contests.

For Boston, it has cashed the Over at a 2-0-1 pace in the previous 3 outings, while going 5-2-1 across the past 8 contests. And in this series, the Over is 6-3 in the past 9 meetings, while going high in 4-1-1 in the past 6 battles at Scotiabank Arena.

Los Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Kings at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Maple Leafs are coming off a 3-2 OT loss in Nashville against the Predators on Saturday night, cashing the Under yet again. The total has gone low at a 5-0-1 clip in the past 6 games overall. As a favorite, the Leafs are 4-3 straight up, but Toronto is just 2-5 on the puck line in those outings.

Kings at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Cam Talbot (3-2-1, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%) vs. Joseph Woll (3-1-0, 1.33 GAA, .961 SV%)

Talbot is expected to get the starting nod between the pipes. He kicked aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Golden Knights on Saturday. He has made 1 start against an Eastern Conference team, allowing 4 goals on 25 shots in a 4-2 loss against the Boston Bruins at home on Oct. 21.

Woll is confirmed to start Tuesday. He has won 3 consecutive games, including 2 starts and a relief appearance in Tampa on Oct. 21. He has allowed just 2 goals on 97 shots in the past 3 games he has appeared. Woll lost his only start at home, stopping 27 of 30 shots in a 4-1 setback to the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 16 in his first appearance of the season.

Kings at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Kings 3

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-152) are a decent play at home as moderate favorites. Woll has steadied the ship in the blue ice for the Leafs, although it will be interesting to see how Toronto performs at home. It won a wild 6-5 shootout against the Canadiens to start, before that loss to the Blackhawks in Woll’s 1st appearance.

The Kings (+126) are 3-0 on the road this season, but they lost their only 2 previous appearances against Eastern Conference teams, losing in a shootout to Carolina at home on Oct. 14, while getting doubled up by Boston on Oct. 21.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (+155) are worth playing lightly on the puck line.

Toronto handled itself well on the road trip, although this play comes with plenty of risk. As a favorite, Toronto has posted 4 wins in 7 tries, but it has cashed on the puck line on just 2 occasions.

The Kings +1.5 (-188) are 2-3 in 5 games as an underdog straight up, while covering the puck line in 3 of those games.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-134) is a little pricey, but worth it.

The Kings have hit the Over in 10 of the past 11 games overall dating back to last season, but going 6-2 in the past 8 on the road, and 12-5 in the past 17 against Eastern Conference teams.

The Under is 12-3-1 in the past 16 games overall for the Leafs dating back to last season, although the Over-Under is 1-1 in 2 games on home ice so far.

Based on the numbers for Los Angeles, go high, but play this lightly.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Dallas Stars odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Dallas Stars odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Maple Leafs (4-2-0) play the 4th contest of a 5-game road trip against the Dallas Stars (4-0-1) Thursday at American Airlines Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+/TSN4). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maple Leafs vs. Stars odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs have won the past 2 games at Tampa and Washington after opening the road trip with a 3-1 setback at Florida. The Leafs have managed to score 4 or more goals in 4 of 6 games overall.

The Stars picked up a 4-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins last time out on Tuesday, cashing on the puck line as favorites for the 1st time in 5 tries after 4 consecutive games decided by a single goal.

The Leafs swept the regular-season series from the Stars in 2022-23, including a 4-0 win Dec. 6, 2022 in the last trip to Dallas. The Under is 4-1 in the past meetings in this series.

Maple Leafs at Stars projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (2-1-0, 4.34 GAA, .831 SV%) vs. Jake Oettinger (3-0-1, 1.44 GAA, .952 SV%)

Samsonov was pulled last time out after allowing 3 goals on just 4 shots in Tampa Bay. G Joseph Woll relieved him, and the Leafs ended up rallying for the 4-3 win in overtime. Samsonov has allowed 3 or more goals in 3 of his 4 starts this season.

Oettinger kicked aside 38 of the 39 shots he faced against the Penguins, and he has allowed just 6 total goals on 126 shots this season, firing out of the chute. He won his only home start of the season, topping the Blues in a 2-1 shootout with 23 saves on 24 shots.

Maple Leafs at Stars picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 3, Maple Leafs 1

Moneyline

The STARS (-125) might have been swept by the Maple Leafs (+105) last season, but Dallas is playing much better hockey right now.

Samsonov cannot be trusted in Big D, as he was tattooed in Tampa last time out. Oettinger has been tremendously consistent, and he and Dallas are worth playing while he remains red hot.

Puck line/Against the spread

The STARS -1.5 (+185) are worth playing lightly for the chance to nearly double up.

There is risk, as Dallas covered on the puck line as a favorite last time out for the first cover in 5 times.

The Maple Leafs +1.5 (-225) can’t be trusted due to uneven goaltending so far this season, especially on the part of Samsonov. Until he irons out his problems, stay away.

Over/Under

The UNDER 6 (+100) is the lean, but go lightly.

The Under is 4-1 in the past 5 meetings in this series, while going 3-0-1 in the past 4 games overall for the Maple Leafs. The Under is 4-1 in 5 games overall for the Stars, too, allowing 3 or fewer goals in 4 of 5 outings, as well.

Maple Leafs at Capitals projected goalies

Joseph Woll (1-1-0, 1.69 GAA, .949 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (1-1-1, 3.56 GAA, .887 SV%)

The 25-year-old Woll is confirmed for the crease Tuesday. He came on in relief of Ilya Samsonov in Tampa Saturday, benefitting from the comeback in the 3rd period and overtime, turning aside all 29 shots he faced after taking over late in the first period.

Kuemper has allowed 9 goals on 57 shots in his past 2 outings, going 0-1-1 in a pair of road outings. In his only home outing, the veteran kicked aside 38 of the 40 shots he faced against the Calgary Flames in a SOW on Oct. 16.

Maple Leafs at Capitals picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 3

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-175) are a little on the pricey side, so go lightly. However, since it is just under my personal limit of -180, it is worth playing. It’s better to toss into a multi-team parlay, however.

The Leafs have won 5 of the past 6 meetings in this series, with the favorite cashing in 23 of the past 33 meetings. And with the Capitals (+145) struggling to score goals, the Leafs are the play.

Puck line/Against the spread

The CAPITALS +1.5 (-165) aren’t priced out of line if you’d like a little insurance, and just cannot take them straight up.

The Caps have won 17 of the past 24 home games against the Leafs in D.C., but again, Washington is having some uncharacteristic struggles. Perhaps it will come alive in Spencer Carbery’s 1st game against the Leafs, the team he served as an assistant with before landing in Washington as head coach.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-120) is worth a look, but go lightly.

The Leafs have had no trouble scoring, or allowing goals. However, the Caps have struggled to light the lamp, so be careful.

Still, the Over is 5-1-2 in the past 8 meetings in this series, and 3-0-1 in the previous 4 skates between the teams at Capital One Arena, so that’s a positive.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay Lightning odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Maple Leafs (2-2-0) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2-2-1) meet Saturday at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maple Leafs vs. Lightning odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs racked up 13 total goals in the first 2 games, with C Auston Matthews going for a pair of hat tricks, and all was well. Someone turned off the spigot in the past 2 games, with Toronto managing just a single goal in each of the outings, both losses.

The Lightning have been trying to keep their heads above water with Andrei Vasilevskiy sidelined until at least late November after back surgery. The Lightning have allowed at least 3 goals in all 5 outings, with the Over going 3-1-1 to date.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Maple Leafs -1.5 (+170) | Lightning +1.5 (-210)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 7 (O: +100 | U: -120)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Maple Leafs at Lightning projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (2-1-0, 3.67 GAA, .861 SV%) vs. Jonas Johansson (2-1-1, 3.53 GAA, .894 SV%)

Samsonov had his best outing to date in Florida Thursday, allowing just 2 goals on 23 shots, but he suffered his first loss of the season due to the lack of offensive support. He had allowed 9 goals in his first 2 starts, yet won both.

Johansson is confirmed to start Saturday. He has allowed at least 3 goals in each of his 4 starts, while posting a 2-0-0 record, 3.00 GAA and .900 SV% in 2 home outings.

Maple Leafs at Lightning picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Lightning 3

Moneyline

The MAPLE LEAFS (-135) are a strong play to bounce back after the loss in Florida. Toronto gained a lot of confidence by ousting the Lightning (+115) in the postseason, snapping a lengthy playoff series drought in the process. In the regular season, Toronto has won 4 of the past 5 meetings overall, including 4 straight regular-season trips to Amalie Arena.

The Leafs have won 7 of the past 9 road games dating back to last season, while going 7-3 in the past 10 games when playing on a day of rest.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Lightning +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your return, should you require a little insurance. If you like Tampa Bay, just play it straight up.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The Over/Under 7 is a risky play, as I think the total comes down exactly on the number.

With the Over cashing in 10 of the past 11 meetings in Tampa, and 14 of the past 19 meetings overall, the lean is to play Over, and taking a chance on the ALTERNATE LINE – OVER 6.5 (-155) is worth playing lightly.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Toronto Maple Leafs at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Maple Leafs (2-1-0) and Florida Panthers (1-2-0) meet Thursday at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Fla. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Maple Leafs vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Maple Leafs lost 4-1 on home ice against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday. After scoring 13 goals in the 1st 2 games, including a pair of hat tricks by C Auston Matthews, Toronto had a power outage against the Blackhawks.

The Panthers opened with a 2-0 road loss against the Minnesota Wild last Thursday, and followed that up with a wild 6-4 road loss against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. The Panthers scratched out their 1st win on Monday, 4-3 at New Jersey Devils. This will be the home opener for Florida.

  • Moneyline (ML): Maple Leafs -135 (bet $135 to win $100) | Panthers +115 (bet $100 to win $115)
  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Maple Leafs -1.5 (+170) | Panthers +1.5 (-210)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 7 (O: +105 | U: -125)

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Maple Leafs at Panthers projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (2-0-0, 4.42 GAA, .839 SV%) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (1-2-0, 3.42 GAA, .888 SV%)

Samsonov is confirmed to start Thursday’s game, looking to rain on the parade of the home opener for the Panthers. While he has won his 1st 2 starts, he coughed up 9 goals on 56 shots in those outings, bailed out by Toronto’s outstanding offense.

Bobrovsky allowed just 2 goals in his best showing of the season last Thursday in Minnesota, and he lost. He allowed 3 goals on 34 shots last time out in New Jersey, and he won. Bob has allowed 3 or more goals twice in 3 outings.

Maple Leafs at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

The PANTHERS (+115) are a solid value as short ‘dogs in the team’s home opener. Florida has had the number of the Maple Leafs (-135) in recent seasons, winning 9 of the past 13 meetings in Sunrise, while going 4-1 in the past 5 meetings overall. The underdog has cashed 7 of the past 8 meetings in this series, too.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Panthers +1.5 (-210) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not nearly enough reward if you require a little bit of insurance. Florida has dominated this series in recent years, so just play the Cats straight up if you like it.

PASS.

Over/Under

Over/Under 7 is a risky play, as I think the total comes right down on the number.

The Under has cashed in each of the past 7 meetings, while going 4-1 in the past 5 skates in South Florida. If anything, buying a half goal would be the way to go, but at Under 7.5 (-190), it’s still a lot of risk for not enough reward.

AVOID.

Chicago Blackhawks at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Chicago Blackhawks at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago Blackhawks (1-2-0) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (2-0-0) meet Monday at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blackhawks vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Blackhawks play the 4th contest of a 5-game road trip to open the season. After posting a 4-2 win in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Chicago has been outscored 6-3 in a pair of losses in Boston and Montreal. The Under has cashed in all 3 games to date.

The Maple Leafs opened with a wild 6-5 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens Wednesday, then posted a 7-4 win Saturday against the Minnesota Wild. C Auston Matthews has posted consecutive hat tricks to open the season, becoming just the 5th player in NHL history to open the season with back-to-back 3-goal games.

Blackhawks at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Petr Mrazek (1-1-0, 2.54 GAA, .935 SV%) vs. Joseph Woll (6-1-0, 2.16 GAA, .932 SV% – 2022-23)

Mrazek allowed 2 goals on 41 shots in Tuesday’s 4-2 road win in Pittsburgh. He was solid in Montreal on Saturday, allowing just 3 goals on 36 shots in a 3-2 loss, but the offense was unable to give him much support. Mrazek allowed 5 goals on 42 shots in a loss in Toronto on Feb. 15 last season, facing his former team. He spent the 2021-22 season with the Maple Leafs.

Woll has posted impressive numbers in his brief career, going 9-2-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .924 SV% in 11 NHL regular-season starts. This will be his 1st appearance against the Blackhawks. He was 2-0-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .941 SV% in 2 starts against the Western Conference last season.

Blackhawks at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Blackhawks 3

Moneyline

The Maple Leafs (-350) will cost you 3 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk, and not enough reward. Toronto has been getting all kinds of offense, but the defense is a little bit of a concern. The Leafs are averaging 6.5 goals per game in the early going, while allowing 4.5 GPG. Until the Leafs get the defense and goaltending under control, they’re a major risk.

AVOID.

Puck line/Against the spread

The MAPLE LEAFS -1.5 (-135) are worth playing lightly on the puck line, and Toronto covered the goal and a half last time out.

The Blackhawks +1.5 (+110) have played pretty good defense in the 3 games, allowing a total of just 7 goals. They haven’t faced a high-octane offense like the Leafs, however, and Toronto knows Mrazek well from his team in T-Dot.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-120) is the best play on the board in Toronto games until further notice.

Not only have the Leafs rolled up 13 total goals in 2 games, they have allowed 9 goals, too. The defense has been a train wreck, the goaltending has been shaky, but man, Toronto has been scoring so much, that “Pursuit of Happiness” by Kid Cudi is already played out as the goal song.
