Top stars from Jets’ 30-28 Week 16 win over Commanders

Running through some of the top performers from the Jets’ 30-28 win on Christmas Eve over the Washington Commanders.

The Jets were up big, blew it then were up again when it mattered the most: at the end of the game. After holding 20-0 and 27-7 leads, the Jets let the Commanders back in the game, almost giving Washington a Christmas miracle. Instead, the Jets rallied late and Greg Zuerlein kicked a 54-yard to give New York a 30-28 win to move to 6-9 on the season.

Zuerlein is one star from this game but there were a few more. So in the Christmas spirit, we’ll highlight a few stars from Sunday to spread some holiday cheer before the Jets get right back to work to prepare for Thursday’s trip to Cleveland.

Interception, blocked punt, offensive explosion highlights Jets strong first quarter

Quite the first quarter for the Jets against the Commanders.

The Jets have given their fans an early Christmas present with an explosive first quarter. Everything seemed to go the Jets’ way as New York exploded to a 17-0 lead before the first quarter even reached the halfway point.

Tony Adams began the party with an interception of Commanders quarterback Sam Howell on the second play from scrimmage.

After the Jets kicked a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead, Jermaine Johnson gave the Jets excellent field position with a blocked punt. The Jets took full advantage as wide receiver Jason Brownlee scored his first career touchdown as the Jets took a 10-0 lead.

As if all that wasn’t enough, Breece Hall broke through for a 37-yard touchdown run. Not even six minutes into the game and the Jets were up 17-0.

The Jets needed something positive after last week’s disaster in Miami. This was about as positive as it can get.

Even in the second quarter, the special teams made noise again as Ashtyn Davis recovered a punt return fumble by former Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder.

Mekhi Becton ruled out, Tony Adams downgraded to doubtful

Mekhi Becton ruled out, Tony Adams downgraded to doubtful

Jets left tackle Mekhi Becton has been ruled out with an ankle injury while safety Tony Adams was downgraded to doubtful with a finger injury.

Becton had his ankle rolled up during the first half against the Bills and limped to the sideline. He was then carted from the medical tent to the locker room and initially ruled questionable to return. ESPN’s Rich Cimini is reporting the injury could be a high-ankle sprain. Carter Warren is in at left tackle.

Adams suffered what looked to be a dislocated finger in the first quarter and came off the field. He eventually went to the locker room as well and was also initially ruled questionable to return. He is now doubtful. Adrian Amos took over at safety.

Jets safety Tony Adams went to the locker room during the first quarter against the Bills with what appeared to be a finger injury. He is questionable to return.

Adrian Amos has replaced Adams for the time being at safety next to Jordan Whitehead.

The Jets can’t afford too many injuries in the defensive secondary. They’re already without nickel cornerback Michael Carter II and now are without one of their top safeties in Adams.

Whitehead, Amos, Ashtyn Davis and Jarrick Bernard-Converse are still available for the Jets.

Jets players take to Twitter to share excitement over ending Eagles’ unbeaten season

Yo, Adrian, they did it! The New York Jets have defeated the Philadelphia Eagles for the first time ever. Like, ever. All-time. They had never beaten the Eagles in the regular season until Sunday. October 15, 2023 will go down as a major day for the New York Jets.

Not only did the Jets end an 0-12 streak all-time against Philadelphia, they also handed the Eagles their first loss of the season and left no remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL. This also means the Jets let their buddies, the 1972 Miami Dolphins, pop the champagne again as they will remain the last team to ever run the entire table, from start to finish, including the Super Bowl.

So as should be expected, Jets players took to social media to express their vast amount of excitement over knocking off the defending NFC champions.

6 takeaways from Jets’ impressive 20-14 win over Eagles

Here are our six immediate takeaways from the Jets’ impressive 20-14 win over the Eagles in Week 6.

The New York Jets improbably handed the Philadelphia Eagles their first loss of the season on Sunday, winning the game 20-14. While the Eagles went to 5-1 on the season, the Jets improved to 3-3 to avoid falling too far behind the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East race.

After going down 7-0 to begin the game, the defense stifled Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, outscoring them 20-7 following the first drive of the contest. Even though the offense made plays when they needed to, Sunday’s victory was all about the stellar performance by the defense.

With the Jets upsetting the Eagles at home in Week 6, here are our six immediate takeaways from the contest.

There are no more undefeated teams in the NFL.

After the Cleveland Browns upended the San Francisco 49ers in the early window, the New York Jets surprised the Philadelphia Eagles, 20-14, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

In a battle of teams in green, the home squad used an interception and a 45-yard return by Tony Adams to move ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Breece Hall scored on an 8-yard run to give the Jets an 18-14 lead.

The 2-point conversion from Zach Wilson to Randall Cobb made it a 6-point game.

The Eagles were unable to get a first down on their last-chance drive and the Jets had beaten Philadelphia for the first time in 13 tries.

The Eagles led at one point 14-3 and didn’t score again.

This will likely be a discussion topic in Philadelphia.

Jets injury report: Tony Adams back, D.J. Reed unlikely to play

Jets injury report: Tony Adams back, D.J. Reed unlikely to play

The Jets look to be getting one key piece of the secondary back this week but likely will be without two others.

Safety Tony Adams was a full participant in practice Thursday, his first full practice since injuring his hamstring in Week 2. He’ll be back this week, but the Jets will likely now be without two of their cornerbacks against the Denver Broncos.

Brandin Echols was already ruled out this week with a hamstring injury. The big question right now is on D.J. Reed. He missed practice again as he remains in the concussion protocol. We’ll know more Friday morning, but the likelihood is that he won’t be cleared in time to play. If Reed can’t go, it could be Bryce Hall getting the nod opposite Sauce Gardner but the Jets do have a number of options they can go with.

Linebacker Samuel Eguavoen has also missed practice this week with an ankle injury. Safety Jarrick Bernard-Converse (foot) and offensive tackle Carter Warren (shoulder) were both listed as limited. The Jets opened the 21-day practice window on both this week. Neither are officially on the 53-man roster yet.

Along with Adams, offensive tackle Mekhi Becton (knee) and offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer (concussion) were both full participants Thursday. Schweitzer has missed the last two games.

Tony Adams, Wes Schweitzer out on Jets first Week 4 injury report

Tony Adams and Wes Schweitzer remained out Wednesday.

The Jets only have a handful of active players on their injury report to start Week 4, certainly a positive sign. Of the available players, only two did not practice Wednesday. Those two were safety Tony Adams and guard Wes Schweitzer, both of whom miss Sunday’s game against the Patriots with a hamstring and concussion, respectively.

Mekhi Becton and Breece Hall continue what has become a usual routine of being limited early in the week before being a full go later in the week.

Kicker Greg Zuerlein (groin) and DE Micheal Clemons (elbow) were both full participants Wednesday. So overall, not a bad injury report for the Jets as we reach the quarter pole of the season.

Jets vs. Patriots injury report: Tony Adams, Wes Schweitzer out

Jets will be without a defensive starter Sunday.

Two players, including a defensive starter, for the New York Jets will miss Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots because of an injury.

Starting safety Tony Adams injured his hamstring during last week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys and did not practice all week. He is out meaning Adrian Amos is likely to start next to Jordan Whitehead on Sunday.

The Jets will also be without backup interior offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer. He popped up on the injury report Friday with a concussion. Schweitzer missed four games in 2022 with a concussion.

Three players are listed as questionable including left tackle Duane Brown, who dealt with a new hip injury this week to go with his shoulder injury he has been listed with. Brown did not practice all week but the Jets left open the door that he could still play Sunday. If not, it will likely be Billy Turner starting in his place.

Also questionable are edge John Franklin-Myers (hip) and kicker Greg Zuerlein (groin). Both were full participants in practice Friday, which should be a good sign for their availability Sunday.

The Patriots have five players listed as questionable: DL Christian Barmore (knee), CB Jonathan Jones (ankle), OL Mike Onwenu (ankle), OL Sidy Sow (concussion) and OG Cole Strange (knee). All were limited all week except for Sow who did not practice Thursday but was back in a limited fashion Friday.
