247Sports names 3 Clemson football players as top-100 ‘Impact True Freshmen’

3 true freshmen are primed for big roles this season, according to 247 Sports.

Whether anyone likes it or not, Clemson and the transfer portal are like oil and water, or at least, the incoming transfer portal.

The Tigers still have a significant portion of the team leaving, with around ten players a year for the last four years venturing out to “greener pastures.” With over double that amount coming in as true freshmen, Clemson should hardly dip below the 85-player scholarship limit, but it does mean the team will be increasingly younger as time goes on.

Fortunately, the newcomers are some of the best in the country. As for this year, a few should significantly impact the team in their first season.

Chris Hummer of 247 Sports thinks the Tigers have three incoming freshmen with the potential to influence college football in 2024. With the recent struggles from the wide receiver room, Hummer picked Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore to have crucial roles this season.

Wesco’s spring game performance really stood out to Hummer.

The knock on Wesco upon his enrollment at Clemson was his frame. At 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Wesco definitely still needs to add weight this summer. But the dude can play. Wesco flashed on a number of springtime occasions for the Tigers, including scoring the first touchdown of their spring game. We know Clemson desperately needs exterior playmakers and Wesco is capable of providing some of that vertical pop.

Although Wesco played better this spring, Hummer thinks Moore will have the larger role in 2024.

Wesco showed up big this spring, but it might be Moore — a summer enrollee — who ends up with the larger role. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Florida native showed ready-to-play ability in January at the All-American Bowl, and there’s a belief around the Tiger program that Moore was one of the steals of the cycle (he was a moderately late-rising recruit who finished as a five-star). At least one of Wesco or Moore will end up emerging as a difference-maker.

Moore and Wesco have relatively easy paths to playing time. Hummer’s third and final player does not. Linebacker Sammy Brown has excellent size for a true freshman, and while he may not start, he could see the field a lot this fall.

Brown’s path to the field is a bit more congested than his two 2024 class counterparts. While the Tigers need help at receiver, they’re in good shape at linebacker with Barrett Carter and Wade Woodaz in the middle of the defense. Still, Brown is as physically ready as perhaps any freshman to step in Day 1. He’s a true testing freak and had an impressive public debut in Clemson’s spring game with eight tackles and a sack. He won’t start this year. But expect him to be heavily in the rotation for the Tigers and flash on occasion, much in the way Woodaz did a year ago.

Clemson 5-star wide receiver arrives on campus

One of Clemson’s 5-star wide receivers in the 2024 class has arrived on campus.

Early enrollees have become a very common practice for college football teams, but not every recruit joins the program early, opting to finish out their high school journey before starting the next chapter of their lives with the Tigers.

One of the players who did this was five-star wide receiver TJ Moore, who stayed in high school and finished out the year before joining the Tigers. Well, the long wait for Clemson fans is over as Moore is officially on campus, with Clemson’s move-in day for the football team freshman happening yesterday.

Initially a four-star recruit, Moore was wildly impressive toward the end of the 2024 recruiting cycle, flying up rankings. In 247Sports site rankings, he jumped up to the No. 4 wide receiver and No. 21 overall player. In their composite rankings which considers other major recruiting outlets, he jumped to the No. 5 WR and the No. 23 overall player.

Moore could be a star for the Tigers.

Clemson signee elevated to 5-star by 247Sports

Clemson now has two five-star wide receivers in its 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ rankings.

A Clemson signee in the 2024 recruiting cycle has become a five-star prospect as of Monday.

Wide receiver TJ Moore was elevated from a four-star signee to a five-star signee in 247Sports’ final rankings for the class of 2024, jumping 81 spots in the overall recruiting rankings, rising from No. 102 to No. 21. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound pass-catcher was previously the No. 21 wide receiver and is now 247Sports’ No. 4 wide receiver this cycle.

Moore’s jump in rankings comes after he shined in the All-American Bowl, recording two touchdown grabs and 180 yards on 11 receptions, one of which was an impressive one-handed catch. With his jump, the Tampa, Fla., product now joins Bryant Wesco as a five-star receiver in the Tigers’ 2023 class.

Moore signed with Clemson on Dec. 20 and will join the Tigers this summer ahead of the 2024 season.

Watch: Clemson WR signee TJ Moore impresses in All-American Bowl

Clemson’s wide receiver room is about to add some impressive, young talent.

Clemson wide receiver signee T.J. Moore may not be the highest-rated pass-catcher in the 2024 recruiting cycle, but he has the potential to be the best.

Playing in the All-American Bowl on Saturday, Moore had two touchdown grabs and 180 yards on 11 receptions, one of which was an impressive one-handed catch, as Team East came up short against Team West, losing 31-28.

With his performance in Saturday’s game and in drills over the past few days, Moore earned On3’s MVP award for the All-American Bowl week.

At 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, Moore is the No. 18 wide receiver prospect and the No. 89 overall recruit in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He officially signed his national letter of intent in December and will arrive at Clemson in the summer.

Check out some of Moore’s highlights from Saturday:

Clemson’s 2024 class hits big at wide receiver

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson coaching staff may not have landed a ton of wide receivers, but it is quality over quantity here.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have repped the ‘Wide Receiver U’ moniker for a while, but it hasn’t felt like WRU lately.

The Tigers have talent at wide receiver, but we haven’t seen that same level of talent and explosiveness we’ve seen in years prior with guys like Mike Williams, Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, and more. That could all change soon with the 2024 recruiting class, and the two stud wide receivers Swinney and his staff landed.

It’s only two, but it is definitely quality over quantity here. Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore are the names, and they’ll look to get you to remember them sooner rather than later. Two of the top players in the class, according to 247Sports composite rankings, Wesco is the No.6 wide receiver and No.21 overall player in the class, while Moore is No.18 and No.89 overall.

These two look excellent on film, and on paper, it’s tough to argue with their standing. Clemson has bolstered their wide receiver room with this class, and it makes an exciting future for this offense.
