Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

For the second time this season, the Los Angeles Rams (5-11) and Seattle Seahawks (8-8) will square off in an NFC West rivalry game. The Seahawks will be the home team in the season finale, looking to sweep the defending Super Bowl champions in 2022. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET (FOX) from Lumen Field. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rams vs. Seahawks odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Rams were steamrolled by the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17, losing 31-10 at SoFi Stadium. They failed to cover the spread as 6.5-point underdogs, dropping their ATS record to 6-9-1. The Rams have the 2nd-fewest yards in the NFL this season (4,500) and rank 26th in scoring (291 points). Defensively, they’re 17th in yards allowed (5,396).

The Seahawks are still alive in the NFC playoff race. They need a win vs. the Rams and a loss by the Green Bay Packers (at home vs. the Detroit Lions) in the Sunday night game to make the postseason. So, while this game may not mean anything for the Rams, it’s a must-win for Seattle. After starting the season 6-3, the Seahawks have gone just 2-5 in their last 7 games, losing control of the lead in the NFC West.

Rams at Seahawks picks and predictions

Prediction

Seahawks 24, Rams 16

Moneyline

The Rams nearly pulled off an upset as 7-point home underdogs in Week 13, but a late touchdown by the Seahawks resulted in a 27-23 Seattle victory. The Rams are in even worse shape now than they were then, so I don’t really see them winning this game on the road against a desperate Seattle team.

The Seahawks are stumbling, but they’ll do enough to win against an unimpressive Rams team. It’s just not worth taking them on the moneyline at -250. PASS.

Against the spread

Neither team is very good against the spread. The Rams are 6-9-1 and the Seahawks are 7-9. Los Angeles is 0-3-1 ATS as an underdog of +0.5 to +6.5 points this season, according to Covers, and L.A. has really struggled as a road dog.

I like the SEAHAWKS -5.5 (-113) at home against their rivals, knowing they need a win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Over/Under

The total has only gone Over in 6 of the Rams’ 16 games, and it’s 8-8 for the Seahawks this season. In the last 7 meetings between these teams, the total has gone Under 5 times.

Neither offense is firing on all cylinders and I think the only way the total goes Over Sunday is if the Seahawks defense completely falls apart against a bad Rams offense.

LEAN UNDER 41 (-109).

First look: Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Carolina Panthers at New Orleans Saints Week 18 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Carolina Panthers (6-10) visit the Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints (7-9) Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we look at Panthers vs. Saints odds from Tipico Sportsbook; check back for all our NFL picks and predictions.

With a win Sunday against the Buccaneers, the Panthers would have been playing for a division title and playoff berth in this game. Despite getting out to a 14-0 start, they were unable to hold on, and the 30-24 loss means this game is meaningless.

The Saints, who needed a bit of help, did their part by beating the Philadelphia Eagles 20-10. Despite this, the 41-17 victory by the Green Bay Packers means the Saints were also eliminated from playoff contention and this game has no meaning for them either.

This now turns from a game with important implications to instead being a game of pride for both NFC South teams.

Panthers vs. Saints head-to-head

In the first meeting between these 2 teams in 2022, the Panthers pulled out a 22-14 home victory over the Saints. Before this, the Saints had won 5 of the last 6 meetings between these teams.

While this game is meaningless for the playoffs, it does have a bit of meaning for the Saints as their first-round selection in the 2023 draft belongs to the Eagles. A victory here means a worse selection for the Eagles.

Overall, in this series, the Saints are leading the series 29-27.

First look: Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks Week 18 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Los Angeles Rams (5-11) and Seattle Seahawks (8-8) will wrap up their regular-season slate on Sunday with a matchup at Lumen Field in Week 18. The NFL hasn’t announced the time of kickoff, but we know this game will be on Sunday after the league announced Saturday’s 2 matchups. Below, we look at Rams vs. Seahawks odds from Tipico Sportsbook; check back for all our NFL picks and predictions.

The Rams (+6.5) lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 31-10 on Sunday, slipping to a new level of futility as they set the NFL record for the most losses ever by a defending Super Bowl champion. It’s been a frustrating season for the Rams, who have now lost 8 of their last 10 games after starting the year 3-3.

The Seahawks kept their playoff hopes alive with a 23-6 win over the New York Jets on Sunday, winning as 1.5-point home underdogs. Seattle can make the postseason with a win over the Rams in Week 18 ands a loss by the Green Bay Packers to the Detroit Lions. The Seahawks have given up the 6th-most yards (5,880) in the NFL this season, but the offense ranks 9th in points scored (388).

Rams vs. Seahawks head-to-head

This is the 51st meeting all-time between the Rams and Seahawks, with Seattle holding a 26-24 edge. They’ve only outscored the Rams by 18 points  in their 50 meetings (1,068-1,050), so they’ve played some very close games throughout their history.

In the last 10 games between these teams, the Rams have won 7 times and have also gone 7-3 ATS. They’ve actually covered the spread in 4 straight games against the Seahawks, twice as underdogs.

Since the start of the 2018 season, the Over/Under is evenly split at 5-5 in the last 10 games.

NFL Prop Bets Week 17: Leaning on, sigh, Carson Wentz and the Commanders’ wideouts

Is Carson Wentz going to add value to the Commanders’ passing game? More importantly, can he lift up Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel?

I was ready to write off last week’s picks. A short work week and the unpredictability of Christmas Eve/Christmas Day football left my props feeling a bit rushed. I had excuses ready to roll when they inevitably tanked.

But then we landed one Jauan Jennings catch short of an 8-0 week, so … I’m not really sure what the lesson is there. Except, of course, that an unsustainable heater rolls on. These official plays are now a staggering 76-34 on the year — a 69 percent win rate that would have returned $4,109.09 in winnings if you’d slapped $100 down on each one.

This is, of course, unsustainable. Early in the season we took advantage of prop lines that were slow to adjust to the action on the field. Last week, with tighter totals and less value to be found, that 7-1 record was a little bit of skill (the Travis Kelce yardage-longest catch parlay, betting up the Ravens’ running backs with Lamar Jackson out) and a bunch of luck (Geno Smith hitting his rushing over in garbage time).

So, let’s try to be lucky AND good again in the first week of 2023 and the penultimate week of the 2022 season. Official plays are in bold.

Mike White longest completion OVER 34.5 yards. White has Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore against a fading Seattle pass defense. The only team he’s failed to complete a 30-plus yard pass against was the Bills and their smothering unit.

Justin Fields OVER 76.5 rushing yards. Chase Claypool is expected to play, but Fields’ receiving corps remains grim. Fortunately, he’s got a showdown against the defense that gives up more rushing yards to quarterbacks than anyone else in the NFL — a number padded by the 136 yards Fields rolled up the last time these teams played.

Trevor Lawrence OVER 13.5 rushing yards. He’s running the ball more often lately — 4.3 carries, 27.8 rushing yards per game in his last four — and gets a favorable matchup against Houston. He’s run for 20-plus yards in each of his last two matchups with the Texans.

Gus Edwards OVER 39.5 rushing yards. Edwards’ totals keep slowly creeping higher, but haven’t yet caught up to his production (10.3 carries, 73.3 yards per game over his last three matchups). The Steelers have a solid run defense, but 10 handoffs in a game that promises to be some Big Ten cosplay should be more than enough to hit this number.

Latavius Murray over 9.5 receiving yards. Murray had -1 yard through the air the last time he saw the Chiefs — but he also had five targets. Kansas City’s 723 receiving yards allowed to running backs is the fourth-worst total in the NFL.

Garrett Wilson OVER 65.5 receiving yards. 95, 162 and 78. Those are Wilson’s receiving yard totals in three games with Mike White at QB — the least of which came on a Sunday where White’s ribs were compacted into a tiny cube by Matt Milano.

Jahan Dotson OVER 40.5 receiving yards. It’s clear Washington wants its rookie to play a big role in the passing offense; Dotson has 24 targets his last three games and is averaging nearly 16 yards per catch. The question is whether Carson Wentz can make this work like Taylor Heinicke before him. Wentz and Dotson combined for two targets in two drives last week, which is fine. It’s also less than Curtis Samuel had in that confined sample size. Well hey, speaking of:

Curtis Samuel OVER 30.5 receiving yards. In two drives with Carson Wentz at quarterback last week, Dirty Curty had three targets, three catches, 35 yards and a touchdown. Granted, that was in garbage time against a disinterested 49ers team, but Wentz and Samuel had a connection early in the season that the veteran QB seems eager to rekindle.

AJ Dillon OVER 13.5 receiving yards. Dillon’s had at least 16 receiving yards in each of his last four games against the Vikings, including 46 on six targets the last time these teams played. Minnesota ranks 27th in receptions and yards allowed through the air to opposing running backs.

Aaron Jones, with an 18.5 receiving yard total, also has a modest hill to climb if you’re not sold on Quadzilla. He has at least five targets in four of his last five games against the Vikings.

Last week: 7-1 (.875)
Season to date: 76-34 (.691)

And hey, since the holiday robbed us of a formal game picks column this week, could I interest you in some Scumbag Locks ™?

Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Rams (5-10) and Los Angeles Chargers (9-6) will square off at their shared home field of SoFi Stadium Sunday in Week 17. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET (CBS) after being flexed out of the Sunday night slot by the NFL. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Rams vs. Chargers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Rams, who will be the designated visiting team, stunned the Denver Broncos in blowout fashion Christmas Day, winning 51-14 as 3-point home underdogs. While it was only their 5th win of the season, they’ve won 2 of their last 3 games with Baker Mayfield at QB. Defensively, the Rams have only allowed an average of 18.0 points per game in their last 3 games and rank 12th in total yards allowed this year (4,965).

The Chargers have been carried by their defense the last 3 weeks, allowing only 34 combined to the Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts. That’s the fewest points allowed since Week 14, which shows how well this defense is playing right now – albeit against some lesser opponents. The offense has sputtered a bit, however, scoring 27 points or fewer in each of their last 10 games.

Rams at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 24, Rams 16

Moneyline

The Rams (+225) looked unstoppable on offense last week, scoring on each of their first 8 drives, but the Broncos also seemed disinterested in trying to slow them down.

The Chargers (-270) are a much more competitive team and they’re fighting for playoff positioning, unlike Denver.

The Rams’ 51-point outburst was more than likely a fluke, and I see them regressing back to the mean this week. However, the juice on the money line isn’t worth betting, so PASS here.

Against the spread

The Chargers are 9-5-1 ATS, which is the 5th-best record in the league. The Rams, on the other hand, are just 6-8-1 ATS. The Rams have kept things competitive in recent weeks, going 4-1 ATS in their last 5, but the Chargers pass rush and defense present some challenges for the Rams.

I would LEAN CHARGERS -6.5 (-106) in this one.

Over/Under

The Under is 2-1 in the Rams’ last 3 games and 3-2 in their last 5, so they haven’t exactly played high-scoring games lately. For the Chargers, the total has gone Under in each of their last 4 contests, largely because of the way the defense has played.

Prior to scoring 51 against Denver, the Rams hadn’t topped 23 points since Week 6. That’s more along the lines of how they’ll play on offense Sunday. I like UNDER 41.5 (-110) in this matchup.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami Dolphins (8-7) and New England Patriots (7-8) are both fighting for their playoff lives this week as they square off at Gillette Stadium in Week 17. Kickoff on Sunday will be at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Dolphins vs. Patriots odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Dolphins are stumbling into the final weeks of the season, losing each of their last 4 games after starting the year 8-3. The playoffs are still within reach, however. If the Dolphins win their last 2 games, they’ll clinch a playoff berth, which is the simplest scenario for this team entering Week 17. The offense has been inconsistent at best, scoring between 17 and 29 points during their 4-game losing streak; Miami ranks 9th in total points (365) this season.

The Patriots are in even worse shape than the Dolphins, sitting at 7-8, but they can also get into the playoffs by simply winning their final 2 games of the season. They’ve dropped 4 of their last 5 games, with their only win during that stretch coming against the Arizona Cardinals. Three of their last 4 losses have come by 7 points or fewer, so they’ve kept things close.

Dolphins at Patriots picks and predictions

Prediction

Patriots 20, Dolphins 16

Moneyline

Tagovailoa’s absence from this game makes it even tougher to pick because the Dolphins will instead have QB Teddy Bridgewater under center. Even though he’s an experienced player who’s started 64 games in his career, he threw 3 INTs in 2 games this season, both of which were losses by Miami.

As unimpressive as the Patriots’ offense has been this year, this is the type of game Bill Belichick wins with solid coaching. I’ll take the PATRIOTS (-145) to win outright at home against their division rivals.

Against the spread

The Patriots likely wouldn’t be favored if Tagovailoa were playing in this one, but with Tua out, New England looks like the better team, especially at home in December.

The Patriots are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against the Dolphins at home, which is a trend I think continues this week. Bet the PATRIOTS -2.5 (-110) to cover at Gillette.

Over/Under

These are inconsistent offenses led by underwhelming quarterbacks. The Patriots defense is one of the best in the league, however, and should give Bridgewater a lot of trouble if the coverage can hold up despite some starters likely missing from the secondary.

While the Dolphins’ defense has allowed the 6th-most points in the league, QB Mac Jones is having a rough year and won’t lead many touchdown drives. Bet the UNDER 41 (-112).

Oddsmakers picking Patriots to knock off Dolphins in pivotal Week 17 clash

Patriots pegged as favorites in Sunday’s showdown with the Dolphins.

The New England Patriots might be banged up, but the thought of the Miami Dolphins playing without their starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, has shifted the sports betting line in favor of the home team.

Tipico Sportsbook currently has the Patriots pegged as three-point favorites in a rematch of the regular season opener. New England actually put up a better fight than the 20-7 score indicates in the first meeting, particularly when the Dolphins’ only offensive touchdown in the game came on a busted passing play that went for 42 yards to Jaylen Waddle.

Miami will be rolling out Teddy Bridgewater as the starting quarterback on Sunday with Tagovailoa currently in concussion protocol.

Granted, that’s a major advantage for the Patriots. However, Bridgewater is a great backup quarterback with more than enough weapons to challenge the vaunted Patriots defense. Waddle and Tyreek Hill facing a defensive backfield that could be without Jalen Mills, Marcus Jones and Jack Jones could be a big problem.

The continued question marks surrounding New England’s offense will also ensure that Miami has a fighting chance.

This will be a must-win game for the Patriots as far as the playoffs are concerned. If they win, they’ll still control their own postseason destiny. But a loss would effectively eliminate them from contention.

It’s do-or-die at this point.

First look: Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans odds and lines

Looking at Sunday’s Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans Week 17 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (7-8) travel to Houston to take on the Houston Texans (2-12-1) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Jaguars vs. Texans odds from Tipico Sportsbook; check back for all our NFL picks and predictions.

After a 17-point come-from-behind victory over Dallas in a 40-34 overtime win, Jacksonville was victorious again Thursday with a 19-3 win over the New York Jets. For many Jaguars teams, a Thursday game after an emotional win would have been a letdown spot. But this team is different. Coach Doug Pederson has the team believing, and QB Trevor Lawrence has been immaculate in the past month for Jacksonville. This includes a TD run  Thursday against the Jets to help gain the win.

The Texans, who are fighting for the No. 1 draft selection, went into battle against their arch-rivals the Tennessee Titans Saturday and came out with a 19-14 win. While RB Derrick Henry still ran for over 100 yards and a TD, Houston was able to hold down the rest of the team as QB Malik Willis struggled in place of injured Ryan Tannehill, who will miss the remainder of the regular season.

Jaguars vs. Texans head-to-head

Jacksonville has not been able to figure out the Texans in recent years. In the first game of this season, the Texans went to Jacksonville and gained its only victory of the season before Saturday. The 13-6 victory must have been a wakeup call for the Jaguars as they have looked different since then. With this game being in Houston, Jacksonville will need to win its first game in the series since Dec. 2017 – a span of more than 5 years and 9 straight losses. For the sake of the Jaguars’ playoff hopes, this better be the game they break the streak.

Overall, in this series, Houston has an all-time lead of 28-13.

First look: Dallas Cowboys at Tennessee Titans odds and lines

Looking at Thursday’s Dallas Cowboys at Tennessee Titans Week 17 NFL odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The Dallas Cowboys (11-4) will travel to Nashville for a Thursday night showdown with the Tennessee Titans (7-8) Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET (Amazon). Below, we look at Cowboys vs. Titans odds from Tipico Sportsbook; check back for all our NFL picks and predictions.

Dallas, after a 40-34 victory over Philadelphia Saturday, comes into this game with hopes alive for a division title and a conference No. 1 seed if things fall correctly.  The Titans come in on a 5-game losing streak. The last of these losses came in a 19-14 loss to the Houston Texans Saturday. A team which has relegated itself to the No. 1 draft selection and at this point has nothing to play for other then achieving this draft selection.

RB Derrick Henry had another monster game against the Texans with more than 100 rushing yards and a TD in the first half. But with QB Ryan Tannehill sidelined for the remainder of the regular season, Malik Willis struggled to gain any momentum. This places the Titans in a tie with Jacksonville for the division, and these teams will play in the final week of the season.

Cowboys vs. Titans head-to-head

These teams have played 4 times since 2006. In each of these games, the road team has won the game easily.

The closest of these games was a 2010 game in which Dallas went to Tennessee and won 34-27. The next-closest game was a 28-14 victory by Tennessee in the last meeting in 2018.

Both teams have a lot to play for. Playoff life for the Titans and a possible first-round bye for Dallas. Despite this, the games in this series are not close contests. So, make sure to wager carefully.

The all-time record in this series is 8-7 in favor of the Cowboys. This record includes all iterations of the Titans/Oilers.
