Rockets vs. Celtics: Live stream, lineups, injury reports and broadcast info – 4/2

Everything you need to know about Friday night’s contest against Houston at TD Garden.

The Boston Celtics have lost two winnable games in a row and seven of their last 10, but will likely get two important players back with a little luck when they face the Houston Rockets at TD Garden Friday night. News of Romeo Langford’s potential availability should help the team’s depth even in limited minutes, and a return for Robert Williams III will bring much-needed balance to the frontcourt rotation.

And while this Rockets outfit is far from threatening, it will be a stronger version of itself than the team Boston beat on the road earlier this season, with big man Christian Wood, wing Danuel House and potentially star guard John Wall back in the fold.

This is not a team the Celtics should expect to lie down and take a loss, despite their record.

Boston’s Romeo Langford, Robert Williams III off the latest team injury report

This time, we really might see Romeo Langford this season.

If nothing out of left field ends up happening before this coming Friday evening, we may yet see second-year shooting guard Romeo Langford make his season debut. Unfortunately for Langford however, the Indiana native has made a name for himself because of things coming out of left field to affect his availability.

It’s no fault of Langford’s that he has yet to play this season, having taken longer than expected to recover from surgery on a torn tendon in his wrist sustained in the Disney bubble while playing for the team in the 2020 NBA playoffs, only to be forced into the league’s health and safety protocols the very day he was hoping to get on the floor to play his first game of the 2020-21 season.

It’s gotten to the point where internet humorists have started questioning whether the Indiana product even exists.

Legendary Celtics center Bill Russell announces NBA return via Twitter

Big Bill Russell made the announcement on this most important of days.

The Boston Celtics need some help in a big way, and on Thursday their former star player and coach Bill Russell announced his return to the NBA on Twitter.

It was unclear whether the announcement was tied to the Celtics’ up-and-down play this season, but the Hall of Fame big man could be seen in the gym working out, seemingly in preparation for the grueling work of getting into game shape in a league that has change considerably since his retirement. Russell was not available for comment regarding whether he was planning to play for Boston, or if it was another squad which had reached out to the 11-time champion.

“Last week a team reached out,” noted Russell on Twitter, to the “greatest defender in NBA history,” referring of course to himself, not Draymond Green.

“Time to get in game shape,” added Russell.

He also said, “April Fools”.

WATCH: Jaylen Brown score 24 points, 4 boards, 4 steals vs. Mavs (3/31)

Brown had a solid return to action against Dallas, even if Boston did not.

While it would of course have been better if it had happened in a win, All-Star forward Jaylen Brown looked good in his return to action after missing a game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday to a left hip contusion.

The Georgia native put up 24 points, 4 rebounds and as many steals in 37 minutes of floor time in the Celtics 113 – 108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at TD Garden on Wednesday night, Brown going 9-of-17 from the floor overall and 4-of-11 from beyond the arc, though he shot a disappointing 2-of-4 from the free throw line.

We’re not sure exactly what ails Boston, and the Cal-Berkeley product’s postgame frustration highlighted how doesn’t either, but while we wait and hope for them to figure it out, we can at least appreciate Brown’s individual excellence in the meantime, small consolation that it is.

Jalen Ramsey wants Rams to sign CB Corn Elder: ‘Would be a great addition’

Jalen Ramsey says he’s been trying to get the Rams to sign CB Corn Elder.

Troy Hill’s departure in free agency has left a gaping hole at cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams. He was the team’s starting nickel corner last season, but he also lined up outside at times, showing excellent position flexibility.

David Long Jr. is a candidate to replace him in 2021, but Jalen Ramsey has another idea if the Rams want to add an outside free agent: Corn Elder. On Thursday, Ramsey said he’s been trying to get the Rams to sign Elder and hopes he’ll visit Los Angeles next after meeting with the Lions.

He says Elder “would be a GREAT addition” and he has similar versatility to Hill in that he can play inside and outside. Rams fans would love Elder, too, according to Ramsey.

Elder was a fifth-round pick by the Panthers in 2017, but he missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury. The former Miami Hurricane has played 30 games since, all with the Panthers, and has made one start.

He saw his first meaningful action last season, recording 40 tackles, three passes defensed and a forced fumble in 16 games, playing 39% of the defensive snaps.

The Rams do need cornerback help with Hill gone, so perhaps Ramsey will get the front office to at least give Elder a look as a cheaper free-agent option.

Tommy Tremble pro day results

How much did Tommy Tremble help his draft stock on Wednesday?

Tommy Tremble had a strong showing at Notre Dame’s 2021 pro day, specifically in the performance parts of the day, even if he didn’t measure out the way you look for a prototypical NFL tight end to do.

Tremble measured out and put up the following numbers on Wednesday:

Height: 6-3.3″
Weight: 241 pounds
Arm:  31 7/8″
Wingspan: 78 1/2″
Hand: 9 1/4″

225 lb. Bench Press:  20
40-yard dash: 4.59 seconds
Vertical jump: 36 1/2″
Broad jump: 10’2″
20-yard shuttle: did not participate
3 cone drill: did not participate

Tremble’s performances were great although he’s not the perfect size as discussed above.

All things considered though, it was a solid day for Tremble who performed about as well as he could hope for.

Top-2023 recruit calls Notre Dame ‘amazing program’

Is Notre Dame football elite? Not quite, but to a top-2023 recruit they are “amazing”.

Notre Dame fans who keep an extra-close eye on recruiting are familiar with Milton High School in Georgia as a 2022 recruiting class commitment, tight end Jack Nickel is a student there.

It’s a 2023 recruiting prospect from Milton that is in the news for Notre Dame however as top-ranked defensive end Lebbeus Overton recently had some very positive things to say about the Notre Dame football program.

Speaking to Mike Singer from BlueandGold.com (click for the full article, it’s worth your time), Overton offered the following:

“I’ve watched a lot of their games. I don’t know how to describe it; it’s just an amazing program. They have everything you need to be successful.”

Overton is rated as the nation’s top player according to the most recent 2023 individual rankings that were released by Rivals.  Overton also told Singer that Nickel is in his ear about attending Notre Dame:

“He’s been in my ear a lot,” Overton said. “That’s my guy; we’re close. I’m glad he’s at Notre Dame. It’s an amazing school, especially for tight ends. Ever since I got the offer, he’s been on me and trying to hype me up about it.”

It’s clearly a good sign for Notre Dame that the nation’s top-rated prospect has that to share, but it’s hardly a two-foot putt that Overton will eventually commit to the program.

It’s a good first step and positive news, but a lot of work remains for Notre Dame with the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M just a few of those in pursuit of Overton.

Watch: Robert Hainsey meets media ahead of pro day

Which Notre Dame offensive lineman that is off to the pros will be the most difficult to replace?

Robert Hainsey was a mainstay on Notre Dame’s offensive line in recent years as he helped lead one of the best o-line units in all of college football the last couple of years.

Hainsey is now off to the NFL where his ability to play multiple positions will help him greatly in terms of team evaluations.

Hainsey met the media ahead of Notre Dame’s pro day and shared praise for former Irish offensive line coach Harry Hiestand and discussed what the Irish have in current line coach Jeff Quinn.

Watch Hainsey’s entire press conference ahead of Notre Dame’s pro day here:

Watch: Mike Tomlin compliments Notre Dame program

Which Notre Dame player would be the best fit in Pittsburgh this draft?

When you list the best coaches in the NFL there won’t be many names said before you get to Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tomlin has won on Super Bowl and participated in another since taking over as Steelers head coach in 2007 and seemingly always has Pittsburgh playing in the NFL playoffs.

Tomlin was one of many notable NFL coaches in attendance at Notre Dame’s pro day on Wednesday and was very complimentary of the program in a brief video that the Notre Dame football Twitter account released late Wednesday afternoon.

Tomlin and the Steelers started the 2020 season 11-0 before fading down the stretch and ultimately being upset in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs by the Cleveland Browns.

Mavericks at Celtics: Prediction, point spread, odds, over/under, betting picks

Our prediction and best bet for Wednesday’s Mavs-Celtics game.

Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics host Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, and if you’re looking to do some last-minute betting research, you’re in luck! We’ll give you the latest point spread, moneyline odds and over-under number, as well as the information you’ll need to make the smartest bet on BetMGM.

The game tips off at 7:30 and can be seen on ESPN.

The Mavericks have lost two of their last three games, but just thumped the Thunder on the road. The Celtics are hoping to bounce back from a six-point loss to the Pelicans, though they were without Jaylen Brown in that game.

Brown has been upgraded to available for the Celtics on Wednesday, while Willie Cauley-Stein and JJ Redick are both out for Dallas.

The lines, courtesy of BetMGM

  • Point spread: Celtics -2
  • Money line: Celtics -130 / Mavericks +105
  • Over-under: 222.5

Place your legal, online sports bets in VA, CO, IA, IN, NJ, PA, TN and WV at BetMGM.

Advice and prediction

The Mavs edged the Celtics 110-107 in their first meeting early this season in Dallas, but Boston will get a big boost from Brown’s return.

Prior to their loss to the Pelicans, the Celtics had reeled off two impressive wins including a win over the Bucks on the road, and new arrival Evan Fournier can’t possibly have a worse outing than he did in his debut. I’m taking the home advantage and the Celtics -2 to win in a close one.

Prediction: Celtics 113, Mavericks 109
