Tigers of the Game: Broome, Green handle business in tight game with Ole Miss

Wendell Green Jr. and Johni Broome led the pack in Auburn’s win over Ole Miss

It was a close one, but Auburn Basketball did what was needed down the stretch to earn a 78-74 win over Ole Miss on Wednesday night.

Auburn and Ole Miss swapped leads five times and tied each other six times before the dust settled. In a game with marginal room for error, free throws came at a premium. In the game, [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] connected on 11-of-12 shots, and Auburn as a whole made 22-of-24 shots from the stripe.

“It shows that we are learning,” Green said during the postgame press conference. “We ended up getting to the free throw line a lot. That is the main thing that Coach (Pearl) told us, ‘at the end of games, we need to stop fouling and get to the free throw line more.’ It is an automatic two points. We improved on that and I hope we can improve more down the road.”

[autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] also played a vital role in the win as well by leading the team in rebounds and blocks, and was second in scoring. The efforts of Broome and Green led them to earn Tigers of the Game honors following the win over Ole Miss.

Tigers of the Game: Broome, Flanigan, Johnson stand out in Auburn’s thrashing of Missouri

You can not tell the story of Auburn’s incredible win over Missouri without mentioning the efforts of these three players.

There’s only one word to describe Auburn’s win over Missouri on Tuesday night… domination.

Auburn went wire-to-wire with a comfortable lead throughout on its’ way to an 89-56 win over Missouri, which snapped a three-game losing streak.

Auburn shot 48% from the field, succeeded on seven dunk attempts, scored 42 points in the paint, and out-rebounded Missouri, 48-26. There were many great individual efforts to go along with those impressive stats. [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] recorded nine assists, [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] recorded his 9th double-double of the season, [autotag]Dylan Cardwell[/autotag] pulled down 10 rebounds, and [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] tied a career-high by scoring eight points.

The efforts of [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag], [autotag]K.D. Johnson[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] were also noteworthy in Auburn’s key SEC win.

After witnessing those performances, it was understandably difficult to choose just one player to vote for. Nevertheless, the writers at Auburn Wire have cast their ballots.

Tigers of the Game: Green, Williams shine in defeat

Auburn was in control for most of their game against No. 3 Alabama. Wendell Green Jr. and Jaylin Williams were key reasons why.

Auburn suffered a tough defeat at the hands of No. 3 Alabama on Saturday. The Tigers led for more than 3/4 of the game, but a late run by the Crimson Tide resulted in them jumping ahead and earning the 77-69 win on Saturday in Neville Arena.

Auburn had plenty of upside in the loss, however. Auburn made 85% of its free throws, they out-rebounded Alabama, and three players reached double-figures in points.

[autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] was the Tigers that did the most damage against the Crimson Tide, which leads them to earn Tigers of the Game votes.

Tigers of the Game: Broome, Green earn honors for effort in tough loss Tennessee

In a low-scoring affair, Auburn’s Wendell Green Jr. and Johni Broome made the most noise.

Saturday’s game between No. 2 Tennessee and No. 23 Auburn did not end with an aesthetically-pleasing box score.

The Volunteers went 17-of-63 from the field in the game while Auburn made just 13-of-55 of their shots in Tennessee’s 46-43 win over Auburn at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Tennessee’s leading scorer, Josiah Jordan James, succeeded on just 5-of-12 shots while [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag], Auburn’s highest-scorer, went 5-of-13 from the field.

In a game that made offensive-minded fans cringe and fans of a more defensive-style game grin menacingly,  all aspects of Saturday’s game were considered in selecting Auburn’s best performers.

Following the game, the staff at Auburn Wire, as well as Auburn fans on Twitter, cast their vote for the game’s most valuable player. Who stood out the most? Here’s a look at which player Auburn Wire writers Taylor JonesJ.D. McCarthy, and River Wells, as well as Auburn fans, chose as their Tiger of the Game following Auburn’s loss to Tennessee.

Tigers of the Game: Williams, Broome earn honors for effort in West Virginia game

Williams and Broome were vital to Auburn’s second-half comeback attempt in Saturday’s loss to West Virginia.

For the first time this season, Auburn Basketball has become victim to a two-game losing streak.

Auburn’s strong second half could not erase a 16-point lead that West Virginia built in the first half was too much to overcome, as the Tigers fell to the Mountaineers in the opening game of the SEC-Big 12 Challenge, 80-77.

Auburn shot 49.2% from the field in the loss, but four Tigers would end the game with double-digits in the points column. For the fourth time this season, Jaylin Williams led the team in scoring, while Johni Broome had a special second half. Allen Flanigan reached double-figures in the first half, while K.D. Johnson crossed the threshold late in the game.

With so many options, choosing a Tiger of the Game provided a challenge. Here’s a look at which player Auburn Wire writers Taylor JonesJ.D. McCarthy, and River Wells, as well as Auburn fans, chose as their Tiger of the Game following Auburn’s loss to West Virginia.

Tiger of the Game: Broome sweeps votes despite Auburn’s tough loss

Despite a home loss to Texas A&M, it was business as usual for Broome in the stat sheet.

The No. 16 Auburn Tigers, unfortunately, lost its’ nations-best 28-game home winning streak on Wednesday night, falling to Texas A&M, 79-63.

Auburn got off to a strong 10-2 lead, but the Aggies would take a 24-23 lead with 8:54 remaining in the first half, and would not allow Auburn to take the lead away. Texas A&M built a 15-point halftime lead, and would not let Auburn get within eight points of their lead in the second half.

Despite the tough loss, it was business as usual in the stat sheet for the regular contributors.

[autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] scored a team-leading 16 points while assisting on four baskets. [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] had seven assists to go along with his eight points, and [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] scored eight points and secured four rebounds. In his return to action since injuring his shoulder three games ago, [autotag]Chris Moore[/autotag] recorded a rebound in 12 minutes of action.

Out of all of the top performers in Wednesday’s game, [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] made the biggest impact. His contributions to the game were enough to earn the “Tiger of the Game” award in a unanimous fashion.

Here’s a more in-depth look at why Auburn Wire writers Taylor JonesJ.D. McCarthy, and River Wells, chose Broome as their  “Tiger of the Game” following Auburn’s loss to Texas A&M.

The No. 16 Auburn Tigers earned its fourth-straight win on Wednesday night, defeating LSU, 67-49 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.

Tigers of the Game: Williams, Green leads Auburn to win over Mississippi State

Jaylin Williams opened while Wendell Green Jr. closed. Both players’ roles in Auburn’s 69-63 win over Mississippi State leads to Tigers of the Game honors.

The No. 22 Auburn Tigers returned to Neville Arena on Saturday and put on a fine show for the rowdy crowd.

The Tigers shot 43.6% from the field in their 69-63 win over Mississippi State. Although Mississippi State stayed close at times, Auburn led for 38 of the games’ 40 minutes.

Three players reached double-figures in scoring. [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] led the way with 21 points, followed by [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag]’s 17 point effort, and [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag]’s 10 points.

All three players played a key role in Auburn’s win, but two players served as bookends to help the Tigers win their third straight game. One player began the game by scoring 13 points, while the other closed the game by scoring 11.

Tigers of the Game: Green, Flanigan stepped up when they were needed most

Auburn got a much-needed with over No. 13 Arkansas on Saturday night. Wendell Green Jr. and Allen Flanigan were two big reasons why.

To say that No. 20 Auburn‘s win over No. 13 Arkansas was much-needed would be an understatement.

Following a too-close-for-comfort win over Florida to open the SEC schedule on Dec. 28, and a disappointing loss to Georgia on Wednesday, Auburn needed a stellar effort to earn a win over the Razorbacks, who feature a roster filled with NBA talent. Using the crowd at Neville Arena as motivation, Auburn took care of Arkansas, 72-59.

Auburn earned the win thanks to strong efforts from a number of contributors. After a frustrating game against Georgia, [autotag]Wendell Green Jr.[/autotag] rallied to lead Auburn in points. [autotag]Johni Broome[/autotag] continued his consistent play by scoring 10 points and securing 10 rebounds for his third-straight double-double. [autotag]Jaylin Williams[/autotag] again did his share by scoring nine points, and [autotag]Allen Flanigan[/autotag] led all bench players with 18 points.
