The Georgia Bulldogs and coach Kirby Smart have added a ninth commitment to their 2025 recruiting class

The Georgia Bulldogs have added a ninth commitment to their 2025 recruiting class and their first at the receiver position. Thomas Blackshear, a four-star recruit out of Savannah, Georgia, officially chose the Bulldogs over Tennessee on Sunday.

Blackshear is listed at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds, and plays at Calvary Day High in Savannah. In the 2023 season, he caught 27 passes for 551 yards and five touchdowns and garnering praise for his physical style of play. He also runs track and plays basketball for the school.

The commitment is the first major recruiting pickup for James Coley since his return to the position of wide receivers coach following the departure of Bryan McClendon to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

When asked why he chose UGA, Blackshear told 247Sports, “The coaches, going down there, getting to know the coaches more when I visited and watching them practice. Talking to Coach Coley and Coach Kirby, that’s when I made the decision.”

Four-star wide receiver recruit Thomas Blackshear has named his top three schools. Blackshear is a member of the class of 2025 and plays high school football for Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver is the No. 307 recruit in the country. Blackshear is ranked as the No. 42 wide receiver and the No. 36 prospect in Georgia.

The Calvary Day standout plays both defensive back and wide receiver. He flashes potential after the catch and has excellent change of direction skills.

Thomas Blackshear is down to three schools.

Thomas Blackshear narrowed down his recruitment on Saturday as one of the nation’s top wide receivers is now down to three programs.

On3 ranks Blackshear as a four-star recruit and the No. 229 player in the nation. He is a three-star according to 247Sports and Rivals.

The class of 2024 athlete is 6-foot and 195 pounds. He is a good route runner with speed and a developing frame. Last year as a junior for Calvary Day School (Savannah, Georgia), he had 27 catches for 551 yards with five touchdowns.

The three programs still in it for Blackshear are Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee.

No timetable was released for Blackschear concerning a possible commitment date.

A number of programs made the cutting room floor for Blackshear including Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech among others.

Florida extended an offer to wide receiver Thomas Blackshear on Thursday, and he’s already planning his first trip to campus.

Calvary Day School (Savannah, Georgia) wide receiver [autotag]Thomas Blackshear[/autotag] has already picked up a few SEC offers heading into his junior year of high school and now the Florida Gators are getting interested.

Florida offered Blackshear on Thursday and he is already considering some dates for a visit, according to Gators Online. He’s still getting to know the program, but a gameday visit to the Swamp might help catch him up to speed.

“Yeah, I’m not sure which game I will be attending, but I will most definitely be to one of them,” Blackshear said.

Blackshear hasn’t fleshed out a list of top schools just yet, but he said that Florida’s offer was a “huge” one for him.

The hometown Bulldogs are on top of Blackshear’s recruitment, according to On3’s recruiting prediction machine. Behind UGA‘s 56.4% leading odds to land Blackshear are South Carolina (4.5%), Florida (3.8%) and Auburn (3.2%).

Blackshear is a three-star recruit by On3’s measure. He’s ranked No. 41 among wide receivers in his class and is the 36th-best recruit out of Georgia. 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals.com have yet to grade him, which means there isn’t enough data for any composite rankings.

It’s been a little quiet of late on the recruiting front for Michigan State football, but the Spartans made a move on Wednesday, entering the recruitment for a 2025 wide receiver out of Savannah, Georgia.

Blackshear used to play at Benedictine Prep, but will soon move to Savannah Cavalry Day, a major school in Georgia that should greatly increase his profile.

Michigan State football has extended an offer to a rising wide receiver prospect in the 2025 class.

Thomas Blackshear of Savannah, Ga. announced on Wednesday that he’s received a scholarship offer from the Spartans. He plays for Benedictine Military School, and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds.

Blackshear is yet to be ranked on 247Sports, but has begun to pick up interest from some power five programs. He now holds scholarships from Boston College, Vanderbilt, Minnesota and Michigan State.
