Ryan Day chirps back at Pat McAfee’s comment about Indiana

Ryan Day joined the The Pat McAfee Show, and he delivered a mic-drop worthy exit to close out his appearance on the show.

Ryan Day hasn’t proven to be a real mic-drop head coach during his tenure with Ohio State. He is leading one of the best college football programs in the country but isn’t the most outspoken coach.

However, he recently joined The Pat McAfee Show as the Buckeyes are set to face the No. 5-ranked Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday.

With ESPN’s College Gameday in Columbus, this game is the premier college football game on the weekend slate. Let’s just say Day gave quite the headline-producing last line.

“Coach, thanks so much for making time for us. Good luck tomorrow. This Hoosiers team is the real deal,” McAfee said.

However, Day got the last life. He said, “So are we.”

Boom!

Day knows that the Hoosiers are getting quite a bit of love heading into this battle, but there’s also the conversation about who they’ve really beaten this season. Nonetheless, it should be a thrilling battle.

That said, the Buckeyes have a road win over top-ten Penn State on their resume and have proven they are the real deal. Even the one-point win on the road over the No. 1-ranked Oregon Ducks was an impressive outing.

Nonetheless, all parties know that talk is just that, and on Saturday at noon ET we’ll see what the Hoosiers (and the Buckeyes for that matter) are made of.

Legendary coach praises Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman on the Pat McAfee Show

When Nick Saban praises you, you’re in good company. Just ask Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.

When Nick Saban, arguably the greatest college football coach of all time, praises your coaching ability, you’re probably in a good place. Just ask Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.

Saban went on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN and said that Freeman’s personality is a big part of why the Irish are already garnering attention as a College Football Playoff contender. Saban was doing the interview with McAfee from the field at Michigan Stadium.

“I love Marcus Freeman and your team reflects your personality … When your team knows you’re fired up that means something to your players,” Saban said.

The seven-time national champion coach went on to say that a team takes on its head coach’s personality to “some degree” and he pointed out that Freeman showing emotion and rallying the Fighting Irish shortly before they took the field against Texas A&M was key. That’s because, in Saban’s view, it means something to players to see that level of emotion from their head coach. It makes them feel like their coach is just as invested in their success as they are.

Freeman has been on the hot seat at times, in part due to inexperience and in part because of the team transitioning a bit after Brian Kelly decamped for LSU. But now that he’s in his third season and has shaped the roster and coaching staff, he seems to be growing into the gig.

He’s certainly impressed one of the GOATs.

Pat McAfee Show personality: ‘Notre Dame is all the way back’

Do you believe this?

Notre Dame is making believers out of skeptics after only one game. Experts who previously had the Irish out of the College Football Playoff have them in now. Sports media pundits are coming around, too.

During Tuesday’s edition of “The Pat McAfee Show,” program personality Boston Connor not only indicated his own belief in the Irish but went so far as to say they’re “all the way back” and that college football is better for it.

McAfee described the environment in which the Irish had to play Texas A&M, which he picked to win on “College GameDay.” Here’s the clip in its entirety (warning: NSFW language):

Now that expectations for the Irish have been raised, it’s up to them to live up to those expectations. Otherwise, we’ll be hearing the same old stuff about how they always disappoint. While that’s a lot of a pressure, it’s the reality.

New Browns coach Mike Vrabel receives some love from The Pat McAfee Show

New Cleveland Browns coach Mike Vrabel receives some love from the Pat McAfee show after a clip showed him running the scout team defense.

Pat McAfee and A.J. Hawk enjoyed watching Mike Vrabel at the Cleveland Browns’ OTA session. The two riffed on the Pat McAfee Show about Vrabel’s command of the scout team’s defense, and his ability to talk trash while doing it. Vrabel is a good friend of the show and they’re happy to see him coaching again.

Vrabel played 13 seasons in the NFL before he started his coaching career. Vrabel has stayed in shape and looks like he can set the edge on the line of scrimmage.

Vrabel sounds happy to be coaching for his hometown team. Hawk, another Ohio native, joked that the Browns should send Vrabel out on gameday wearing a Walsh Jesuit high school jersey to rouse up the crowd. The stadium would lose their mind if they saw Vrabel smash the guitar before kickoff.
Unfortunately, he won’t have the time as Kevin Stefanski and Jim Schwartz are keeping Vrabel busy as a coach where he belongs. The organization did a good job welcoming him to the team after the Tennesee Titans fired him.

Here is Joe Flacco’s full appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Joe Flacco hasn’t been introduced to the local media yet, but he did make an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” shortly after signing with the team.

Going into his 17th season, Flacco will be joining the Colts as the backup to young quarterback Anthony Richardson. He signed a one-year deal worth up to $8.7 million.

Flacco earned the AP Comeback Player of the Year award in 2023 after helping the Cleveland Browns reach the playoffs despite not being on a team at the beginning of the season.

Here’s his full appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday.

ESPN exec: Aaron Rodgers made dumb and factually inaccurate joke

An ESPN executive called Aaron Rodgers ‘joke’ about Jimmy Kimmel ‘dumb and factually incorrect’

The repercussions about Aaron Rodgers “joke” about Jimmy Kimmel on “The Pat McAfee Show” have started from inside the WorldWide Leader.

One of the execs, who is in charge of the show, senior vice president of digital and studio production Mike Foss, spoke to Front Office Sports on Friday and criticized the comment by the New York Jets quarterback that tied the late-night host to the unsealing of Jeffrey Epstein’s court papers.

Foss said he expects Rodgers to continue as a guest on the show in his Tuesday slot.

“Pat announced today that he’s planning on Aaron joining the show Tuesday. Aaron made a dumb and factually inaccurate joke about Jimmy Kimmel,” Foss tells Front Office Sports on Friday. “The show will continue to evolve. It wouldn’t surprise me if Aaron’s role evolves with it.”

Browns RG Wyatt Teller receives praise on The Pat McAfee Show

Cleveland Browns RG Wyatt Teller receives praise from A.Q. Shipley on the Pat McAfee Show

Cleveland Browns starting right guard Wyatt Teller received praise on The Pat McAfee Show. Former NFL lineman A.Q. Shipley showed the spotlight on Teller during his weekly In the Trenches segment. Teller was the puller on a power play and was the star of the show. One can tell how the run gets its name after watching Teller.

The former All-Pro wraps around the left side of the offensive line and lines up multiple Jaguars defenders to hit. Teller delivered a powerful one-arm punch to the linebacker Devin Lloyd sending him flying into safety Rayshawn Jenkins and knocking both players over.

The members of the Pat McAfee Show were amazed by the violence generated by Teller. How can one not be amazed when watching Teller? He’s a bully, a dancing bear, a throwback of the road graders who have paved the way for running backs for over a century. Teller is the embodiment of everything that makes football the perfect sport. He’s intelligent, technical, and strong. He’s a joy to watch in the brown and orange. He deserves another All-Pro award after this season.
