Prediction

Toronto 2, New England 1

Moneyline (ML)

TORONTO FC (+125) is the heavy favorite here despite the fact New England (+230) is tied with them atop the Group C table with two wins apiece. Still, Toronto’s offense has been on point, notching six goals through the first two matches.

Of course, they have also yielded five goals, and they match the Revs with a plus-1 goal differential. Needless to say, this will be a hotly contested match, even if the temperatures are a bit on the mild side before the heat of the Central Florida day gets really cranked up.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 (-150) is the way to go, although it will cost you. TFC is averaging 3.0 goals per match so far in Group C play. New England has conceded just one goal in two matches, but the Revolution haven’t faced an offense as capable as Toronto’s. Look, it won’t be an end-to-end shootout, but we’ll see at least three total goals in this battle for Group C supremacy.

Prediction

Toronto FC 3, Montreal Impact 1

Moneyline (ML)

TORONTO FC should be backed at +100 to get its first win of the MLS is Back Tournament. Montreal (+250) came out flat in its opener with the absence of Saba altering its lineup and attacking style.

Toronto’s three absences are highly notable, but F Ayo Akinola stepped up in a big way with both first-half goals against DC United Monday. M Michael Bradley (foot) also returned to action from his early-season absence. M Pablo Piatti made his MLS debut and played 72 minutes.

TFC just has more talent throughout the lineup than the Impact. Catching plus-money while it tries to secure a top-two seed in Group C makes TFC an easy pick.

Over/Under (O/U)

Toronto Fs Akinola and Alejandro Pozuelo will again be able to do the heavy lifting and will send this one OVER 2.5 (-150).

Akinola led the way for TFC against DC United with six shot attempts and five of those landed on goal. Pozeulo assisted on both of Akinola’s tallies. Montreal registered just one shot on goal in its loss to New England, but it was able to fire a total of six attempts at the target.

These two sides played to a 2-1 TFC victory last August. Toronto also scored a 2-0 win in its July 13 meeting with Montreal last season. The Impact scored four goals in their two regular-season games this year and should be able to get their first of the tournament against a TFC side that just gave up two to DC United.

Prediction

Toronto FC 2, DC United 1

Moneyline (ML)

Toronto FC (-125) is the favorite to win its opening match of the MLS is Back Tournament over DC United (+310). Toronto started its 2020 MLS regular season with a 2-2 draw at the San Jose Earthquakes and a 1-0 home win over New York City FC.

United opened the season with a 2-1 home loss to the Colorado Rapids, but rebounded to beat Inter Miami CF 2-1 before the season was put on hold.

Each team has one win with the two sides playing to three draws in their last five meetings dating back to June 2018. Going back to last season and the 2019 MLS Cup, TFC is 4-1-1 in its last six games. DCU is 2-2-2.

Both sides are missing just one player, as MF Michael Bradley (ankle) returns for TFC and MF Federico Higuain (knee) suits up for DCU. Side with the favorites, who have had the chance to benefit from a proper rest period after going to the MLS Cup three of the last four seasons.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on TFC to win returns a profit of $8. Betting this exact score at +775 odds would return a profit of $77.50 on a $10 bet.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected goal total is set at 2.5. TFC cruised to a lopsided 5-1 victory when the two clubs last met last October, snapping a stretch of three games between the two which saw a total of just three goals scored (DC United went 1-0-2).

Two of the first three games of the MLS tournament ended 1-0, but expect a little more offense from these two veteran clubs.

Prediction

San Jose Earthquakes 1, Toronto FC 0

Moneyline (ML)

TFC (+250) was dealt a huge blow in the preseason, as new designated player Piatti suffered a multi-week hamstring injury. This shifts things dramatically in favor of the SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (+100). The Earthquakes finished eighth in the Western Conference last season and just missed out on the playoffs with a record of 13-16-5, however they were 10-5-2 at home while Toronto FC was just 4-6-7 on the road.

San Jose earned a 2-1 victory in last year’s head-to-head meeting. Another factor in favor of the home side: It will be 61 degrees in San Jose Saturday, compared to just 26 degrees in Toronto.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on San Jose Earthquakes to win returns a profit of $10.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 2.5 (+130) with the notable absence of Piatti for TFC. There’s still plenty of talent on the Reds’ side of the ball with Alejandro PozueloJozy Altidore and Michael Bradley, but the Quakes are hoping for a playoff berth this season and will be able to get off to a strong start with a low-scoring game at home against the reigning Eastern Conference champs.
