Texas’ matchup against Kansas on Saturday has been postponed per a statement from KU Athletics. The conference announced the newly scheduled date is Dec. 12, the week before the Big 12 championship game. This is the first game the Longhorns have had postponed due to COVID-19.
Here is the statement Kansas athletics released on Wednesday afternoon:
The Kansas football game vs. Texas on Saturday, Nov. 21 will be postponed to Dec. 12 due to KU’s inability to meet the minimum position requirements established by the Big 12 Conference. The position group affected has a combination of injuries and contact tracing. Since Nov. 8, the KU football program has performed 825 COVID-19 tests with five returning positive on different testing days during that time span.
After having an off date on Nov. 14, this will be Texas’ second off week in a row. The next scheduled event for the Longhorns is Nov. 27 at home against Iowa State.
Currently, Oklahoma State vs Baylor, another game postponed due to COVID-19, is the only other Big 12 matchup taking place on Dec. 12. The Cowboys and Longhorns are two teams competing for a spot in the conference championship game.
Here is how the final schedule will look for Texas:
- Nov. 27 vs Iowa State
- Dec. 5 @ Kansas State
- Dec. 12 @ Kansas
This marks the 20th game postponed due to the coronavirus in the past two weeks. Now all focus shifts to the Iowa State Cyclones on Nov. 27. The Longhorns biggest game remaining on the schedule. If they Longhorns win the next two games, they will likely head into Lawrence, Kansas on Dec. 12 with a Big 12 Championship berth on the line.
