Social media reacts to the Oklahoma Sooners loss to Texas Tech

The Oklahoma Sooners had an opportunity to pull out a win but couldn’t come away with the top 25 win at home.

It’s never good when you go 0-2 in a week in the Big 12. Especially when you’re a top-15 team, and both games were at home.

In this most recent loss, the Oklahoma Sooners struggled at the free throw line. The Sooners shot just 62.5% from the line in a game they lost by one.

Oklahoma shot well from the floor, hitting 47.5% from the field and 42.3% from three. Good teams are able to execute the little things, and unfortunately, this week, Oklahoma hasn’t looked like a good basketball team.

The Sooners have a two-game winning streak against West Virginia and Cincinnati sandwiched between a pair of two-game losing streaks. They’re currently 3-4 in the Big 12 and still in a strong position to make the NCAA tournament. However, they have some questions to answer in the second half of these games after Texas outscored them by 16 on Tuesday and they let this one slip away.

Here’s how social media reacted to the Sooners loss to Texas Tech.

No. 10 Texas defeats Texas Tech, 72-70

Texas Tech sat on a cactus in a narrow loss to Texas.

The Texas Longhorns won again. This one felt more significant than most wins have been this season.

The Longhorns won a chippy battle with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, avenging last season’s two losses to the same team. They did so in comeback fashion once again.

Texas fell behind by double digits and trailed by 34-25 at halftime. A dominant second half performance saw Texas quickly take back the lead with just under 12 minutes remaining, 46-44.

After a 20-4 run and holding a 50-44 lead, the Longhorns forced a timeout midway through the second half.

Timmy Allen got the offense going early in the second period before Marcus Carr and Sir’Jabari Rice slammed the door on Texas Tech. Carr led Texas scorers with 20 points. Rice scored 18, followed by Allen’s 17 points.

Defensively, save for a 23-point performance by Tech freshman Pop Isaacs, the Longhorns neutralized the Red Raider offense. Kevin Obanor was all but rendered a non-factor in the game.

Texas improves to 15-2 on the season, while Texas Tech falls to 10-7. The Red Raiders are still winless in conference play through five games.

Opposing fans make sense of No. 11 Texas’ win over No. 2 Gonzaga

It was a tough night for critics of Longhorns basketball.

Texas had an objectively impressive win on Wednesday night. There isn’t much to nitpick against the Longhorns’ performance but some fanbases tried their best.

Leading up to the game, many believed the Gonzaga Bulldogs would roll the Longhorns. After last year’s performance, another Gonzaga win was the reasonable expectation.

As it turns out, Texas is a much better basketball team than many anticipated. Not everyone could accept that fact following the dominant win by Chris Beard’s team.

Texas is now among basketball’s top contenders after not only winning, but winning soundly. If it isn’t abundantly clear in Beard’s separation with Texas Tech, the Longhorns head coach is winning the divorce.

Here’s a look at how the Longhorns’ naysayers took the news.

Texas Tech didn’t have the chance to counter Texas’ offer to Chris Beard

New Texas head coach Chris Beard reportedly did not give Texas Tech a chance to submit a counter offer.

There were many reasons speculated as to why Chris Beard chose to leave Texas Tech for his alma mater Texas. Just hours after the news surfaced, it became clear of what was going on behind closed doors. It sounds like Texas Tech never had a chance to keep him in Lubbock.

Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt held a press conference on Thursday and provided a few statements that offered insight on what happened with the sudden fallout involving Beard.

Here’s a few key moments from the press conference.

Hocutt, noticeably upset, added on to it with some fiery statements in regards to the future. It’s sure to be an emotional contest the next time these two teams face each other.

Hocutt is embodying how Texas Tech fans are feeling right now. There were many factors that went into Beard’s decision, but money doesn’t appear to be the major factor. We’ll see if that rings true once the details of Beard’s contract are revealed.
