Flipped! 4-star WR recruit Daylan McCutcheon flips commitment from Florida St. to Texas Longhorns

Texas Longhorns get a huge recruiting win as Lucas Lovejoy 4-star wide receiver flips from Florida State to Texas Football.

The Texas Longhorns are keeping one of the state’s best wide receivers home. On Thursday, Lucas Lovejoy 4-star wideout Daylan McCutcheon flipped his commitment from Florida State to the Longhorns.

McCutcheon was one of the top remaining targets we discussed in last week’s 2024 Recruiting Review. McCutcheon is ranked No. 96 in the 2025 class by Rivals, No. 134 by ESPN, No. 105 by On3 and No. 227 by 247Sports. His 247Sports composite ranking (an average of all recruiting services) is No. 107.

McCutcheon committed to Florida State in July. But two weeks ago, he was in Austin for the Mississippi State game. Jason Suchomel of Rival.com says things really started trending towards the Longhorns after that visit.

Suchomel says the WR privately decommitted from the Seminoles on Wednesday before officially flipping his commitment to the Horns Thursday.

“It all started yesterday. Leading up to yesterday, I had a conversation with my parents. Seeing the circumstances going on at Florida State, I want to accomplish all of my goals. Florida State is a great program, but it felt it wasn’t the right place. Yesterday I decommitted … then this morning, I called coach (Steve Sarkisian) and coach (Chris) Jackson, told them I planned to commit to the because offensively, they provide a great opportunity for me to be able to accomplish my goals and be successful. At the end of the day, I want to go to the NFL and Texas provides best opportunity for that.” Daylan McCutcheon told Rivals.com

Suchomel says the 6-0, 175 pound 4-star is being recruited by Texas to play in the slot. Now that he’s committed to Texas, McCucheon tells Rivals he plans to completely shut down his recruitment.

Longhorns land Top 30 2026 elite safety commitment

Texas Longhorns staff land big 2026 recruit in safety Zelus Hicks, beating out Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State and USC.

The Texas Longhorns have been on a recruiting roll. Recent additions to the 2025 class have boosted the team’s recruiting ranking into the Top 10, according to ESPN.

Today, the Texas staff got a big name for the 2026 class. 2026 safety Zelus Hicks, from Carrollton (GA), picked the Longhorns over a host of offers from the likes of Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee and USC.

The 6-3, 180-pound Hicks is ranked as the No. 30 prospect in the 2026 recruiting cycle, according to Rivals, who rank as the nation’s No. 4-ranked safety.

Hicks’ becomes the Longhorns’ third commitment in the 2026 class, joining QB Dia Bell and WR Chris Stewart.

Texas Longhorns land 5-star WR Jaime Ffrench, 2nd Top 20 prospect this week

For the second time in seven days, the Longhorns have struck gold on the recruiting trail with the commitment of 5-star WR Jaime Ffrench.

For the second time in seven days, the Longhorns have struck gold on the recruiting trail. Friday morning, 5-star WR Jaime Ffrench committed to Texas.

Last Saturday, it was 5-star safety/linebacker Jonah Williams that gave Texas its first 5-star in the 2025 class. Now the Longhorns have two.

The 6-2, 175-pound Ffrench is ranked No. 16 overall by Rivals.com. He is the No. 2 WR and No. 3 ranked prospect from the state of Florida. Texas beat out Miami, LSU and Tennessee for the Jacksonville, FL standout.

On his official visit in June, freshman receiver Ryan Wingo was Ffrench’s host and the two out-of-state recruits formed a bond.  Ffrench told Jason Suchomel at OrangeBloods, “It’s a very similar situation with him being far from home and being a national kid. He was just giving me some touch points, some points on why I need to come to Texas and stuff like that. Really he was just showing me like a little brother role, taking me under his wing and showing me around, things like that.”

Longhorns Freshman Report: Two emerge in fall camp

Two freshman have stood out so far in Longhorns fall camp – WR Ryan Wingo and Edge Colin Simmons. Both should get significant playing time.

Texas Longhorns fall camp has been in full swing for a little over a week in Austin, capped by a closed scrimmage on Saturday. Longhorns fans know all about the returning stars on the team, such as Quinn Ewers and Anthony Hill. But how are the freshmen doing? Have any emerged as true impact players in 2024?

OnTexasFootball’s Bobby Burton and Gerry Hamilton report that two freshman are standing out so far in camp: wide receiver Ryan Wingo and edge Colin Simmons.

“They are guys right now that will be in the rotation we believe when Texas plays Colorado State,” Burton said. “They may not play 50 snaps, but I think they’re going to play 15-25. They’ve booth stood out. I think they both get an A or A-plus as a grade right now.”

Wingo caught four passes for 81 yards and 2 TDs in the Texas spring game. An All-American Bowl participant, the St. Louis native was ranked fifth overall and second among wide receivers in the recruiting class by 247Sports.

The true freshman from St. Louis has been everything and then some that Steve Sarkisian could want. He made more than one play in Saturday’s scrimmage, including a couple tantalizing catches, as well as the every down catch. He’s just got to learn more than one position. Right now Sark said he’s kinda pigeon-holed as that outside receiver because he’s so young. He’s trying to get everything down in the game. This is as good a receiver prospect, full prospect, as we’ve seen at Texas since Roy Williams out of Odessa Permian now more than 25 years ago. — Bobby Burton of OnTexasFootball

Simmons is a two-time state champion out of Duncanville who was 22nd overall by 247Sports and played in both the 2024 Under Armour All-American Game and 2024 Polynesian Bowl.

We knew he’d have a role as an edge rusher. We didn’t know if it’d be third downs early in the season. The interesting thing to me is he’s showing versatility. In the NASCAR package they broke out in the scrimmage, he was playing Sam Linebacker. He’s showing beyond his gifts athletically and how he’s built up his frame. He’s showing football intelligence. They feel like they can work him in multiple spots before he’s ever played a game as a freshman in college. — Gerry Hamilton of OnTexasFootball

Longhorns recruiting target WR Andrew Marsh sets commitment date

One of the top recruits in the 2025 class, wide receiver Andrew Marsh, has set his commitment date for August 20th

One of the top recruits in the 2025 class, wide receiver Andrew Marsh, has set his commitment date for August 20th. His list has been trimmed down to Michigan, USC, Colorado, Washington, and Texas.

As Texas looks to improve its 2025 class, Marsh would be a welcome addition. He is a four-star recruit and ranked as the 13th best prospect in Texas. The Katy Jordan High School product would be joining a 2025 class that includes Kaliq Lockett. On Aug. 7, Lockett committed to Texas over Florida State and Alabama.

During his high school career, Marsh has been a human highlight reel. As a sophomore, he caught 53 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. A year later, he made history in the playoffs against Morton Ranch when he caught eight passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns. Scouts nationwide see Marsh as a player who could make an impact in any offense.

Over the next 11 days, Marsh will be a player to watch. He has shown that he can thrive under pressure, which will be critical at the next level. As the Longhorns look to build one of the top offenses in the country, Marsh would be a key addition.

The Longhorns are also targeting five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, who is scheduled to announce on Aug. 30. A wide receiver group of Lockett, Marsh, and French would be a hard trio to stop.

2025 OL prospect Jackson Christian commits to Texas

Texas finds a 6-foot-5, 309-pound lineman in the 2025 class.

The Texas Longhorns have added a big human to their 2025 recruiting class. Port Neches Groves offensive lineman Jackson Christian has committed to Texas.

The three-star recruit meets offensive line coach Kyle Flood’s criteria for frame on the offensive line. At 6-foot-5 and weighing over 300 pounds, Christian possesses the requisite size to move defensive fronts at the next level. Now he will look to develop the skill necessary to make an impact down the line in his college career.

Christian has high stakes experience after contributing to Port Neches Groves’ state championship victory over South Oak Cliff last season. Whether or not it is part of the recruiting criteria, playing for a title at any level could prove valuable down the road.

The offensive lineman’s highlight reel is impressive. The clips show Christian taking opponents out of the play. He will look to do more of that at the next level.

Christian ranks as the No. 30 interior offensive lineman in the country in 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Four-star California WR Marcus Harris includes Texas in Top 5 schools

The No. 1 WR in California named Texas one of his top five schools.

Texas is in the hunt for the best wide receiver in California. Four-star wideout Marcus Harris named the Longhorns one of his top five schools.

The Mater Dei talent continues Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian’s push to bring the best players from California to Austin. The recruiting strategy has helped the Longhorns capitalize on national brand power rather than rely solely on in-state players.

Harris is a jump ball target with the speed to separate from opposing defensive backs. He’s not afraid to use his frame to impose on opposition. He plays bigger than his 5-foot-11 and 180 pound measurements would indicate. Harris’ knack for high pointing the football and finding the end zone make him a good addition to his next team.

Harris appears to have an affinity for SEC football. He is set to choose between SEC powerhouses Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, a new SEC addition in Texas and a lone Big Ten program in Oregon.

Four-star RB Rickey Stewart commits to Texas

Texas recruiting is starting to pick up as another elite running back chooses the Longhorns.

The Texas Longhorns’ 2025 recruiting class is starting to pick up steam. The Longhorns added yet another elite running back after leading the way in recruiting at the position the last couple of seasons.

Running backs coach Tashard Choice earned a commitment from Chapel Hill (TX) running back Rickey Stewart on Saturday. He ranks as the No. 20 overall running back and No. 247 overall player in the 247Sports composite, but those rankings might too heavily weigh the smaller school competition Stewart played against.

Stewart saw offers from Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Ole Miss among others after an impressive early start to his career. In his sophomore and junior seasons combined, Stewart ran for 5,117 yards, 68 touchdowns and around 10 yards per carry.

He would add another elite recruit to Texas running back coach Tashard Choice’s resume. Choice has brought his fair share of blue chippers to Austin including five-star back CJ Baxter and elite recruits in Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark.

Texas will look to build momentum off the strong recruiting start.

Texas lands commitment from Westlake K Spencer Barnett

Texas might have found its kicker of the future.

The Texas Longhorns earned a commitment from Austin Westlake kicker Spencer Barnett on Friday. It might be more significant than you would expect.

Barnett showed above average ability at the high school level. The Austin native has already booted a 59-yard field goal in his time at Westlake high school. What would be impressive for an NFL kicker is the case for the high school player.

There’s more to being a kicker than making long range kicks. Consistency in shorter field goals would prove more valuable over the course of a season. Nevertheless, Barnett’s power will be a useful tool on the football field.

As Texas heads to a more competitive conference, its margin for error will decrease. Having a top kicker becomes an even higher priority for the team. The Longhorns hope they have found their kicker of the future.

Texas will look for continued success on the recruiting trail over the summer.

Texas makes five-star OT Michael Fasusi’s top seven schools

Five-star tackle Michael Fasusi has Texas as one of his top seven choices.

Five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi has narrowed his top schools list to seven teams. The Texas Longhorns are among the teams in the hunt.

The elite 2025 recruit has been one of the highest priorities for the Longhorns this offseason. Offensive line play resurrected Texas from a decade of average to a College Football Playoff berth.

No doubt offensive line coach Kyle Flood and head coach Steve Sarkisian verbalize the importance of the unit. The track record of five-star offensive linemen to Texas since Sarkisian began in Austin indicates recruits know their value to the team.

Fasusi would join elite 2024 tackle Brandon Baker and Texas starters Kelvin Banks Jr. and DJ Campbell as top offensive line prospects to pledge to Texas should he choose the Longhorns.

With Banks developing into a potential high first-round pick and all-American candidate, development is a positive talking point for Texas.

We’ll continue to follow Fasusi’s recruitment closely.
