Former Texas A&M commit Anthony Hill discusses playing at ‘crazy’ Kyle Field for Longhorns

“Playing at Kyle Field was crazy. I can’t lie, the atmosphere was jumping. It was really cool to play in that stadium. It was fun,” he said.

Texas sophomore linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. spoke to the media yesterday prior to playing in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

Hill, a former Texas A&M commit, reflected on his choice to sign with the Longhorns and what it was like playing in the stadium that he initially thought would become his home.

“Do I have to say anything? I mean, I feel like I made the right decision. Look where I’m at,” Hill proclaimed. “Decommitting, I want to leave that in the past.”

“Playing at Kyle Field was crazy. I can’t lie, the atmosphere was jumping. It was really cool to play in that stadium, of course after decommitting from there. It was fun.”

When he flipped to Texas, the Aggies set their sights on sophomore linebacker Taurean York, who Hill was complimentary of Thursday.

“He was playing fast,” Hill said of York. “It was pretty cool playing in the SEC and seeing him play that fast. He was playing really fast. And, his freshman year, he did a good job. He was running the show. So, it’s pretty cool seeing him play, since I’ve been knowing him since my sophomore year (of high school).”

Texas Longhorns arrive in Dallas ahead of CFP Semifinal with Ohio State in Cotton Bowl

The Texas Longhorns have arrived in Dallas hours before a major DFW snow storm and Friday’s CFP Semifinal Cotton Bowl vs. Ohio State.

They beat the weather. As schools across North Texas announce Thursday closures ahead of a snow storm, the Texas Longhorns have safely arrived in Dallas for the Cotton Bowl. UT will take on Ohio State in Arlington’s AT&T Stadium Friday night in the CFP Semifinal.

The Horns left Austin Wednesday afternoon by plan and arrived at their hotel, the Gaylord Texan, around 4:30. After arriving, Texas Offensive Coordinator Kyle Flood, Defensive Coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, QB Quinn Ewers, RB Quintrevion Wisner, CB Jahdae Barron, and LB Anthony Hill, Jr. met the assembled media.

Texas will be playing in its record 23rd Cotton Bowl. The Horns are in the CFP Semifinals for the second straight year. The game will be Friday at 6:30 pm CT.

Thursday will be busy for the team and they’ll have to navigate through the snow storm. But the City of Arlington says it will have crews manning the bridges and roads.

Updated Texas Transfer Portal Tracker – Longhorns add two players over weekend

A big weekend highlights our updated Texas Transfer Portal Tracker with the Longhorns signing a quarterback and defensive tackle.

The Texas Longhorns added key pieces to the 2025 squad through the transfer portal over the weekend. The Horns added depth at quarterback with the signing of former Baylor Bears and Texas State Bobcats QB CJ Rogers. They also signed defensive tackle Travis Shaw from North Carolina.

Shaw entered the portal after the Tar Heels fired former Texas coach Mack Brown in November. The 6-foot-5 1/2, 330-pounder has one season of eligibility remaining. Shaw was one of Brown’s biggest signings in Chapel Hill. In 2022, he was a five-star and the No. 20 player in the nation on the 247Sports composite.

During Rogers’ high school career, he helped Argyle to a UIL 4A state championship appearance. In 2020, he redshirted for Baylor, but received a little playing time in the Bears’ Big 12 championship game. He transferred to Texas State for two seasons. Rogers is thrilled to be a Longhorn.

Playing at the University of Texas is a dream come true,” Rogers told Inside Texas. “I’m very excited to be able to learn from coach (Steve) Sarkisian and coach (AJ) Milwee and help the program.”

Two of Texas’ earlier signings are already practicing with the team. Former Purdue DT Cole Brevard and former Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence were with the team in Atlanta as UT prepared for the Peach Bowl.

“What a unique experience for them to join us now and to have even a couple of transfers now with us in Cole and Brad,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said. “We need it. We’re still trying to practice, and we got hit pretty good from a portal perspective on that front seven. We tried to backfill it with some of these faces now, but it’s good to see those guys. Very early stages.”

Spence has already made a good impression on Texas star LB Anthony Hill.

“When I first seen him, he looked real rocked up. I said, ‘Oh, man, he look like he gonna be a good football player for us’.”

Brevard has also caught the eye of some of the Longhorns players, including senior defensive tackle Bill Norton.

“We’ve got to watch him (Cole Brevard) practice a little bit,” Norton said. “I think he’s gonna be a great addition to this defensive line.”

UNC loses former 5-star football recruit to 2024 College Football Playoff semifinalist

UNC lost a former 5-star defensive lineman to an SEC football program on Sunday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels compiled one of their best football recruiting classes in 2022, landing a pair of 5-star recruits and several additional four stars.

UNC’s crown jewel of its 2022 recruiting class was defensive tackle Travis Shaw, an in-state standout from Grimsley High School in Greensboro. Despite his 5-star status, Shaw never panned out in Chapel Hill, rarely starting and only recording 55 tackles across three seasons.

Shaw previously entered the transfer portal amid uncertainty surrounding North Carolina’s coaching search, but many wondered if he’d return upon Bill Belichick’s hiring.

We got our answer on Sunday, January 5, as Shaw committed to the Texas Longhorns.

Shaw won’t be suiting up for Texas during Friday’s CFP semifinal matchup against Ohio State, as the NCAA has a strict rule, prohibiting student-athletes from playing for multiple teams in one year.

While there’s tons of excitement surrounding the Tar Heels’ entering 2025, it’s tough to pass up playing for an SEC football program, particularly one with a recent track record of success. I’m hopeful and confident Belichick will revive UNC, but the Longhorns have a higher likelihood of 2025 success.

Shaw saw a slight uptick in playing time during North Carolina’s 2024 campaign, setting career highs with 26 tackles, 14 assisted tackles and 12 solo tackles. Shaw’s best game came during the Tar Heels’ bowl-clinching victory against Wake Forest, when he totaled four tackles (three solo), forced a fumble and deflected a pass.

Despite Shaw not being in Carolina Blue any longer, his loss isn’t a major one. Highly-touted high school recruits sometimes don’t pan out, but hopefully Texas is the change of scenery Shaw needs, to unlock his full potential and become one of the game’s best defensive lineman.

Will Texas lose Sarkisian to the NFL? Coaching rumors start to swirl around Longhorns coach

Will Texas lose Steve Sarkisian to the NFL? The rumors are starting to swirl around the Longhorns coach as UT prepares for Ohio State.

Could the Steve Sarkisian era at Texas be coming to an end? Sark’s resurrection of the Longhorns program may be drawing the eyes of teams in the NFL.

The Texas Longhorns head coach has NFL experience on his resume. In 2004, Sark moved from quarterbacks coach at USC to the same position with the Oakland Raiders under Norv Turner. In his one year with the Silver and Black, the Raiders threw for over 4,000 yards. That ranked 8th in the league that year.

Sark moved back to USC in 2005, the year Texas met the Trojans in the Rose Bowl, with the title of assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach.

After head coaching stints at Washington and USC, Sark became an analyst at Alabama in 2016. He would go on to replace Lane Kiffin as Nick Saban’s offensive coordinator after Kiffin took the Florida Atlanta head coaching job. Sark would only serve as offensive coordinator for one game, a loss in the national title to Clemson.

Sark was hired by Dan Quinn in 2017 to be the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, replacing Texas Ex Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan was hired to be the head coach for the San Fransisco 49ers.

Despite a Super Bowl appearance, Sark lasted just two seasons with the Falcons before getting fired and returning to Alabama, where he would again serve as Saban’s offensive coordinator. After two more seasons in Tuscaloosa, Sark was hired by Texas.

But the constant turnover of coaches in the NFL probably always meant Sark’s name would come up again as a potential candidate. Success draws attention. ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on Sunday, “I would expect some teams to call and inquire about the Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.”

While it’s just speculation so far, you can bet there are teams right now analyzing and investigating Sark as a possibility. The noise will only get louder in the next few weeks.
