Texas hosting Duncanville 5-star EDGE Colin Simmons this weekend

Texas is hosting Duncanville’s five-star edge recruit Colin Simmons for an official visit this weekend.

The Texas Longhorns have a special guest coming over this weekend. He happens to be the top high school football player in the state.

Duncanville (Texas) EDGE Colin Simmons recently confirmed he will be visiting the school for their Junior day on March 25.

Simmons (6-foot-3, 225 pounds) is ranked the top player at his position and third overall in the class of 2024.

The competition for his commitment is about as fierce as it gets. Simmons visited Arizona State last weekend and has upcoming visits on tap for Texas A&M, USC, Florida and Colorado. All together, 45 different programs have extended offers. Simmons says he’s hungry for more, though.

Getting Simmons would be a massive win for Texas, who put together the third-best recruiting class of the 2023 cycle. However, so far they only have two hard commits for 2024: Clear Lake athlete Hunter Moddon and Cy-Fair quarterback Trey Owens.

Texas extended a slew of offers to 2023 prospects over the weekend

Texas extended eight offers on Junior Day to very talented recruits.

Steve Sarkisian and his staff hosted a huge recruiting event for some of the nation’s top juniors and underclassmen on Saturday.

The day saw dozens of recruits photographed in Longhorns gear while they toured the campus, and also gave the Texas staff a chance to get in the ear of several top recruits.

Sarkisian, Tashard Choice, and Gary Patterson were heavily featured in recruits’ posts via Twitter.

Texas is looking to use the momentum from the 2022 class, which is currently No. 5 in the nation, and keep it going into the next class and beyond.

It will be extremely important for Texas to have a better performance next season after a disappointing 5-7 record in 2021, but having a chance to kindle relationships with the next wave of recruits early doesn’t hurt at all.

Several players that attended Junior Day walked away with a Texas scholarship offer. Here are the eight to announce they’ve received an offer over the weekend:

Texas offers 2023 four-star defensive end Colton Vasek

Texas’ 2023 class is still in its infancy, as the staff is still putting the finishing touches on the class of 2022.

However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t looking to add to the next class, as they have been sending out offers left and right to talented future seniors.

Texas hosted their elite Junior Day on Saturday, where some of the nation’s top prospects came to campus to visit and meet with the staff. Multiple offers came out of the visit today, and one of the more notable ones was to Austin native and Westlake product Colton Vasek.

The big-bodied defensive lineman is someone who the Longhorns badly want and need in order to help solve their pass rush problems. It may work in their favor that they signed his high school teammate Ethan Burke who played at the other defensive end position this past season as they helped lead their team to a state championship.
