Falcons offense to lean heavily on former Texas running back Bijan Robinson

Atlanta Falcons new head coach Raheem Morris intends to get the ball to former Texas RB Bijan Robinson as much as possible

It is very rare to see a running back drafted in the first round in this day and age, let alone in the top 10. Over the past decade, only 11 RBs have been selected in the first round of the NFL draft. When the Atlanta Falcons used the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 draft on former Texas Longhorns RB Bijan Robinson, Atlanta fans were about to find out what Texas fans already knew about Bijan.

Granted, Robinson was considered a generational talent heading into the draft, but the RB position just doesn’t hold the same value it once did.

For example, in 2024, former Longhorns running back Jonathon Brooks was the only RB selected within the first two rounds. Brooks wasn’t drafted until pick No. 46 overall by the Carolina Panthers.

Bijan was the centerpiece of the Atlanta offense as a rookie with 272 total touches, 1,463 rushing and receiving yards, and eight touchdowns and was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie team.

With a brand new coaching staff and four-time Pro Bowl QB Kirk Cousins coming to the city, it will be interesting to see what Robinson’s role looks like this season.

At times last season, fans of the Falcons were frustrated with Bijan’s use as RB Tyler Allgeier out carried him 214-186 despite averaging nearly a yard less per carry. However, that is not not going to be the case this year as new Falcons head coach Raheem Morris has a ton of high praise for the former top ten pick saying, “In the simplest form you can put it, get the ball to Bijan as much as possible in the most ideal situations as possible.”

Whether it is still on the ground, or finding new ways to get him involved in the passing game, the key to the Falcons offense will be getting No. 7 the ball in space and letting him be himself.

Former Texas WR Xavier Worthy signs rookie contract with Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs and former Longhorns WR Xavier Worthy agree to four-year contract deal

Even though he wasn’t selected until No. 28 overall, former Texas Longhorns WR Xavier Worthy may have been the luckiest player who was selected in the 2024 NFL draft.

Of course, everyone wants to be a top-ten pick and to earn as much money as possible, but landing on the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid far exceeds that.

Worthy only spent three years in Austin before turning pro, but he was a huge piece of the offense since his first year on campus. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2021 and two-time first-team All-conference. In 39 career games with Texas, Worthy had 197 receptions for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls, the Chiefs have struggled to find much success at receiver since trading away Tyreek Hill. Worthy will draw comparisons to Hill because of their game-changing speed.  It will be exciting to watch how he is used in the Kansas City offense.

Coming off the Super Bowl title the Chiefs were slated to pick No. 32 overall. In one of the more shocking moves of the draft, Kansas City traded with the Buffalo Bills to move up to No. 28. They selected Worthy despite the Bills also being in dire need of pass catchers.

Over two months have passed since the draft ended, but the Chiefs and the NFL 40-yard dash record holder have officially agreed to a four-year contract worth nearly $13.8 million.

WATCH: Colts QB Sam Ehlinger throws first NFL touchdown pass

Sam Ehlinger delivered his first NFL touchdown pass on Sunday.

Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger connected with Michael Pittman for his first career NFL touchdown pass on Sunday. Ehlinger delivered a nice pass on third down for a six-yard score in the third quarter.

Ehlinger came in for the injured Nick Foles at halftime and delivered a solid performance. His first in-game action since his last start in New England back on Nov. 6.

While the game was essentially decided before the half, the former Texas quarterback completed 9-of-14 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, playing turnover-free football against a tough Giants defense.

With Foles’ injury stats in question, Ehlinger could be in line to start the Colts’ season finale against the Texans next week. The start would mark Ehlinger’s third of the 2022 season. Another good performance would be significant for Ehlinger’s career moving into the offseason.

Colt McCoy sparks the Arizona Cardinals to a 27-17 win over the Rams

Colt McCoy shined for the Cardinals on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals took down the defending super bowl champion Los Angeles Rams on Sunday behind an excellent performance from backup quarterback Colt McCoy.

In place of the injured Kyler Murray, McCoy shined for the Cardinals’ offense. He finished with an efficient stat line, completing 26 of 37 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown without a turnover.

McCoy’s great start helped the struggling Cardinals get back on track over a division rival and stay in the playoff hunt. The 13-year NFL veteran was ready for his name to be called for the first time this season.

“As a backup, you just never know when your opportunity is going to strike. Quite honestly, I want K-1 to be healthy. He’s a phenomenal player. But in this situation, with linemen out, our backs against the wall, in a division game on the road, I dug deep and was proud to go out there and play as hard as I can.”

Former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker lifts the Chargers over Atlanta

Dicker the kicker plays hero yet again.

Former Texas kicker Cameron Dicker is making the most out of every opportunity this season.

After getting signed by the Los Angles Chargers earlier this week, Dicker nailed a game-winning field goal to lift LA over Atlanta on Sunday. His 37-yard field goal capped off the Chargers’ 20-17 victory.

The kick marks Dicker’s second game-winner in as many starts as he walked off the game for the Eagles back in Week 5.

Dicker the kicker is proving himself to everyone in the NFL. Teams need to give him a full-time starting shot sooner rather than later.

Texas fans are well aware of Dicker’s clutch-kicking ability. He hit multiple game-winners as a Longhorn, most notably his 40-yard boot in the 2018 Red River Showdown. Now the legend of Cameron Dicker is growing at the NFL level.

WATCH: Sam Ehlinger and the Colts speak on Commanders matchup

Ehlinger is set to make his first career NFL start this against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The Indianapolis Colts made headlines this week as they announced a starting quarterback change moving forward. Veteran signal caller Matt Ryan is moving to the bench in favor of Sam Ehlinger.

Ehlinger is set to make his first career NFL start this Sunday against the Washington Commanders. He takes over an offense that has seen its share of struggles over the season but does not lack talent. Running back Johnathan Taylor and wide receiver Michael Pittman are two star players on the offense.

Colts’ head coach Frank Reich hopes Ehlinger can spark a new gear into his offense entering the second half of the season. Indianapolis sits just a game outside of first place in the AFC South.

The former Longhorn has a fantastic preseason campaign and is looking to be the missing piece to the Colts’ playoff push.

Ehlinger spoke on his excitement for this opportunity and how his preparation has him ready for the moment. His teammates and coaches are looking forward to seeing what Ehlinger can bring to the table.

Sam Ehlinger named the starting QB for the Colts

A quarterback change is taking place in Indianapolis.

A quarterback change is taking place in Indianapolis. The Colts announced on Monday they are turning to second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger ahead of its matchup against Washington on Sunday.

Ehlinger gets the nod over veteran Matt Ryan who has seen his fair share of struggles this season.

The move should not come as much of a surprise for those keeping up with Ehlinger’s professional career. He enjoyed an excellent preseason and was recently moved ahead of previous backup Nick Foles on the depth chart.

Colts’ head coach Frank Reich is giving the keys to Ehlinger for the rest of the season with hopes he can spark the sluggish offense.

Indianapolis currently sits with a 3-3-1 record, narrowly out of the AFC playoff picture. The former Longhorn has a great opportunity to prove himself as a starting NFL quarterback.

Former Texas defensive back Caden Sterns is establishing himself as a playmaker in his second season at the NFL level.

Former Texas defensive back Caden Sterns is establishing himself as a playmaker in his second season at the NFL level.

The Denver Broncos safety was all over the field against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football. Sterns aided Denver’s strong defensive performance with two interceptions and three pass breakups.

Sterns jumped in front of a couple of Matt Ryan passes to set Denver up in a position to score. The two interceptions mark Sterns’ third and fourth career takeaways.

The Broncos fell to the Colts by a score of 12-9 in a field goal fest despite Sterns’ efforts.

Sterns was selected by Denver in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft and is quickly becoming one of the better second-year players in the league. The best is yet to come for Sterns’ NFL career.
