The Lone star Showdown is back! Texas will officially face Texas A&M inside Kyle Field in 2024

It’s official: Texas will travel to Kyle Field to face Texas A&M at an unspecified date during the 2024 college football season.

Get your popcorn ready! For the first time since the 2011 season, Texas and Texas A&M will finally reignite their rivalry on the gridiron, as the Lone Star Showdown is back for the 2024 season and beyond.

On Wednesday night, the SEC Network revealed the 2024 schedules for all 16 conference programs, with the obvious additions of Texas and Oklahoma, who are slated to join that season; the rivalry that has been on hold for more than a decade took center stage, mainly surrounding where the game would be played.

After early reports revealed that the matchup would take place at Kyle Field, Wednesday’s confirmation finally put an end to what has become an exhausting debate, and even though Texas fans and media believe that the game should rightfully switch to DKR Memorial after having to play at Kyle Field during the last 2011 meeting, this is simply the Longhorns’ “Welcome to the SEC” inaugural campaign, so having to endure a tough road is entirely fair.

Either way, everyone wins because college football’s greatest rivalry is back. As we look ahead to how both teams should look in 2024, the first game in 13 seasons could be a dogfight between two elite opponents with significant championship aspirations—game on and Gig ’em.

2024 4-star OT Blake Ivy received ‘Crystal Ball’ to land with Texas A&M

According to one 247Sports recruiting analyst, 2024 4-star OT Blake Ivy is projected to land with Texas A&M after his recent campus visit.

Texas A&M is just days removed from last weekend’s huge recruiting weekend, which included several Jimbo Fisher summer camps mixed in with several official visits, which had 2024 four-star offensive tackle Blake Ivy, one of the program’s priority recruits this summer.

On Tuesday morning, 247Sports’ Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, whose prediction record speaks for itself (99.38% for the 2024 class), submitted his official “Crystal Ball” prediction, as he believes that the Aggies will land Ivy, who has yet to nail down a commitment date.

Standing at 6-4 and 285 pounds, Ivy is by far the most athletic offensive lineman in the high school ranks, possessing a 7-foot wingspan with scouts drooling over his potential as an elite blindside protector. Recruiting-wise, the Aggies are currently in heated competition with Texas and LSU, and he’ll head to Austin this weekend and Baton Rouge on the weekend of June 23.

For those worried that Jimbo Fisher and his staff have hit a dry recruiting spell, the summer is when they shine, especially as we near the annual recruiting pool party toward the end of July. Wilfong’s word is one to trust, and Blake Ivy is one of those rare athletes who could compete for snaps at either left or right tackle as soon as he steps on campus.

2024 3-star Quarterback EJ Caminong de-commits from Washington after his visit to Texas A&M

2024 3-star quarterback EJ Caminong has officially de-committed from Washington just days after visiting Texas A&M.

Last weekend, Texas A&M hosted several prospects from the 2024. 2025, 2026. and even the 2027 recruiting classes who took part in Jimbo Fisher’s summer football camps while one future collegiate signal caller made his official visit to College Station, which apparently left a significant impact.

On Monday night, through a post on social media (Twitter), 2024 three-star quarterback EJ Caminong announced that he had de-committed from the University of Washington, just days after his Texas A&M OV, and ever since the end of his 2022 junior season, Caminong and Jimbo Fisher have been connected after offering the ascending prospect back in late March.

According to 247Sports, he is currently positioned as the 21st-ranked quarterback in the 2024 cycle and the 9th-ranked prospect in Washington. Standing at 6-2 and 195 pounds, arm strength and pure toughness has never been his issue, and with one more season of high school football to sharpen his fundamentals, Caminong would be an absolute steal for any of the 7 FBS programs that have fielded an offer.

With only one quarterback signed in the 2024 cycle (four-star Anthony Maddox), Fisher and his staff are all in on making EJ Caminong one of their priority prospects this summer.

ESPN ranks the Top 10 defenses ahead of the 2023 CFB season, including Texas A&M

According to ESPN, Texas A&M ranks among the best defenses in the nation ahead of the 2023 college football season, but where did they land within the Top 10?

As we slowly approach the thick of the offseason, the 2022 campaign is officially behind us, and for Texas A&M, the slate is clean after their 5-7 disaster has been put to bed once and for all. Possessing one of the more elite rosters in college football, the Aggies offense is led by sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, five returning starters on the O-line, and a wide receiver rotation loaded with talent and experience.

However, A&M’s predominant strength is pointing toward the defense, as nearly every key starter outside of Antonio Johnson and Jaylon Jones return this season.

To quote the legendary Paul “Bear” Bryant, Defense wins championships, and in the new age of high-flying Air Coryell-like offensive schemes used throughout the college football landscape, recruiting the best athletes in the secondary, linebacker, and especially the defensive line is beyond crucial to compete year after year.

On Monday, ESPN staff writers combined their knowledge and opinions to rank the Top 10 defenses going into the 2023 season, including several blue-blood programs with a couple of surprises; nonetheless, this list is filled with contenders, not pretenders. So here are the Top 10 defenses for the 2023 campaign, and yes, the Aggies have made the list, but where?

2023 5-star WR Cam Coleman will take an official visit to Texas A&M this weekend

It has been reported that 2024 five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman will visit College Station this weekend.

Amid all the scheduled recruiting visits for Texas A&M this summer, whenever a high-ranking five-star prospect at any position announces their intentions to visit College Station, you know we’ve reached that exciting portion of the offseason.

On Monday, news dropped that 2024 five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman will take his official visit to Texas A&M this weekend, reported by Rivals and Aggie’s insider Landyn Rosow, who revealed the news through a tweet that afternoon.

Coleman took an unofficial campus visit on April 15 and has been slowly trending toward the Maroon and White. However, the competition for his talents comprises nearly every blue blood program in the country.

According to 247Sports, Coleman is currently positioned as the 17th-ranked player in the 2024 cycle, the 5th-ranked wide receiver prospect, and the 3rd-ranked player in Alabama, as he is set to enter his final senior season at Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama. During his 2022 junior campaign, Coleman recorded 31 receptions for 542 yards and six touchdowns, and he’s looking to eclipse those numbers next season.

Outside of his visit this weekend, Coleman will also travel to Clemson (June 2), Auburn (June 12), and LSU (June 23), who remain the Aggies’ biggest opponents for Colemans’ commitment from now on.

Texas A&M is one of eight FBS programs set to return all five starters on the offensive line

Texas A&M is reportedly one of eight FBS programs set to return five of their O-line starters from 2022, but questions remain.

Texas A&M’s 2022 season was marred by several areas of subpar play, and outside of inexperience paired with injury issues to key players throughout SEC play, Jimbo Fisher’s inability to stem the tide was at the heart of all the chaos.

This offseason, changes have been made with additions from the transfer portal and changes to the coaching staff, most notably the dismissal of long-time offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey, leading to the hiring of former SEC head coach Bobby Petrino to the same position.

One area of the offense, the offensive line, coached by veteran O-line coach Steve Addazio, was just awful in 2022, mainly due to inconsistency and injury after injury piling up as the season went on. However, through all its ups and downs, the unit is reportedly one of eight FBS programs that will return all five starters from last season. Still, the starting lineup changed nearly every week for those who weren’t paying attention in October and November.

Suppose we’re looking at it from its original depth chart in early Sept. of last year. In that case, the group consisting of left tackle Trey Zuhn III, left guard Kam Dewberry, center Bryce Foster, right guard Layden Robinson, and right tackle Reuben Fatheree II, Dewberry remains the only projected starter who found his way into the lineup midseason.

Depth at the tackle position pales in comparison to depth in the interior, as freshman tackle Chase Bisontis is presently one of the only reliable options if injuries at both tackle spots occur next season, so let’s say that Addazio once again, his work cut out form him. Overall, the continuity aspect is a huge positive going into 2023, especially for sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman whose success will significantly depend on consistency in pass protection.

Lastly, echoing GigEm247’s Carter Karels’ appearance on Bud Elliots Cover 3 Podcast, Jimbo Fisher’s reliance on “old school” O-line recruiting tactics focused on size instead of athleticism showed its weaknesses in droves last season. Still, with another year of experience, offseason training, and a sense of urgency, things will hopefully get back on track in the trenches.

Texas A&M Football offers Aggie legacy, 2026 WR prospect Mike Brown

With recruiting season in full swing, Texas A&M football offered 2026 wide receiver prospect, and Aggie legacy, Mike Brown.

Even with spring ball in the rearview mirror and the offseason in full swing, Texas A&M continues to be hard at work with its recruiting efforts.

As the Maroon and White host their summer camps over the next two weeks, Jimbo Fisher and his staff continue to have their eyes on some of the biggest prospects of the future, with the latter hoping to earn some potential offers from the Aggies.

According to the latest development, one has already received an offer from the Maroon and White, and he’s no stranger to College Station either.

In a tweet on June 9 confirming the news, wide receiver Mike Brown expressed his excitement about being offered by Texas A&M. The name should sound familiar, as he is an Aggie legacy. Furthermore, both of his parents, Reggie Brown and Kerrie Patterson-Brown,  are former A&M athletics stars:

“Honored and excited to follow in my parents’ footsteps as I receive an offer from the Texas A&M University! It’s a dream come true!”

Brown, part of the 2026 recruiting class, was in College Station over the weekend and participating in the Aggies’ recruiting camp. He hails from Legacy the School of Sport Sciences in Spring, Texas, and at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, he has a chance to continue the track record of accomplished A&M athletes in the family.

Reggie served as a four-year starter at linebacker for Aggies football, earning first-team All-Southwest Conference honors. Kerrie was on the A&M women’s basketball team and was one of their captains while playing on the hardwood.

Congratulations to Mike on being offered by A&M, and here’s to hoping College Station becomes your next home in the future!
