Jaguars remain 3.5-point underdogs vs. Titans but money line shifts

There was a shift in the money line for the Jags and Titans game but the spread remained the same.

The Jacksonville Jaguars remain a betting underdog for their upcoming game against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, TN.

According to BetMGM, the Jaguars are still currently a 3.5-point underdogs to their divisional rivals but the money line did change.

The Jaguars began the week as a +140 underdog on the money line, however, they’ve now fallen to a +165 underdog as of today’s writing.

When looking at the total, the bout is still expected to be a low-scoring game with the over/under unchanged from 41.5-points.

Both teams have been very difficult to bet on. The Jaguars are 5-5 against the spread and are coming off consecutive double-digit losses to the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. The Titans are 4-5-1 against the spread and have won three out of their last five games. The Titans last victory came against the Kansas City Chiefs by the score of 35-32.

Titans TE Delanie Walker getting closer to return

The tight end says he’s “not sure” what the weekend will look like.

Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker has been sidelined for the past three weeks with an ankle injury, but is getting closer to returning to the field.

He’s listed as doubtful on the team’s latest injury report for this week, so only time will tell if he’s in the starting lineup on Sunday.

The tight end says he’s “not sure” what the weekend will look like.

“Yeah, I would say maybe it would be better to be on the cautious side, yes,” Walker said of his recovery. “I am getting close. I am on the field and that is always a good thing when you can run. But I don’t want any setbacks so we’ll see what happens.”

Walker noted in an interview with Titans Wire earlier in the month that he thought pass-catcher Jonnu Smith had done a solid job in his place.

Heading into Sunday’s game against Jacksonville, Smith has reeled in 22 receptions for 287 yards with one touchdown.

Smith recorded four receptions for 30 yards in the Titans’ most recent win, with his lone score of the year coming during Week 8’s 27-23 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Titans and Jaguars are set to kick off at 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.

Titans TE Delanie Walker, OL Kevin Pamphile doubtful ahead of matchup vs. Jaguars

Here’s a look at the complete injury report for both teams.

The Tennessee Titans come off the bye week much healthier as a team overall, but could still be without key players on Sunday.

Tight end Delanie Walker (ankle) and offensive lineman Kevin Pamphile (knee).

Cornerback Chris Milton (ankle) and defensive tackle Jurrell Casey (shoulder) were listed as limited participants, while offensive lineman Rodger Saffold (knee) did not practice.

Linebacker Jayon Brown (groin) practiced in full capacity.

Jaguars QB Nick Foles shaky on Week 11 return vs. Colts

It wasn’t long ago that many analysts drew a connection between the Tennessee Titans and quarterback Nick Foles.

It wasn’t long ago that many analysts drew a connection between the Tennessee Titans and quarterback Nick Foles.

Obviously, the Titans decided not to go for him and it was the Jaguars that paid the high price for the signal-caller.

Foles was injured at the beginning of the season, and made his return last week. The veteran looked rusty as the Jaguars offense failed to get anything going.

He was 33-of-47 passing for 296 yards with two touchdowns and one interception on the 33-13 loss.

[lawrence-related id=22843]

Head coach Doug Marrone made note of Foles’ subpar performance, but wants to see the team perform better as a whole.

“I don’t know. I think we all needed to play better, so it’s hard to judge that. He got hot early, then you’ve just got to take what the defense gives you after that. Then, I thought at the end he started to play really well. First game back is always difficult for anyone, it doesn’t matter whether it’s the quarterback, or any player on the field. So, we’re hoping to get everyone on offense to pick it up this week.”

Last season, Foles was 141-of-195 passing for 1,413 yards and seven touchdowns with four interceptions.

The Titans and Jaguars are set to kick off at 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.

3 bold predictions for Jags vs. Titans

The Jags will need some players to step up after two straight losses and Dede Westbrook is one to watch against the Titans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have reached the point where their playoff aspirations are on life support as they will be taking on the Tennessee Titans, who are almost in the same situation. One thing the Jags will at least have in their favor is the fact that they beat the Titans earlier this year and fans are hoping history repeats itself.

When considering their last two performances, the Jags clearly will need several players to play out of their minds and here are three bold predictions for Sunday’s game:

Dede Westbrook will exit the game with over 130 yards, a receiving touchdown, and special teams touchdown

While it’s Leonard Fournette who most Jags fans want to see more involved, it’s possible struggle against the Titans, who have the No. 13 ranked rushing defense. Additionally, he’s struggled to find success against the Titans and will enter Sunday’s game with just 211 rushing yards throughout four games against them.

However, when looking at their defensive statistics, they’ve struggled mightily against the pass and rank 22nd in the category. When looking at their last three games, they’ve allowed two receivers to accumulate over 157 yards against them (Mike Evans and Tyreek Hill), while Carolina Panthers receiver DJ Moore accumulated 101 yards against them. That said, I think they may focus so heavily on DJ Chark Jr. to the point where Dede Westbrook has a breakout game against them and racks up over 130 yards against them with a touchdown. Don’t be shocked to also see him contribute on special teams against Tennessee, too, as he’s due for a punt return touchdown.

Jaguars final injury report vs. Titans: TE Seth DeValve to miss his second consecutive week

Seth DeValve will miss his second consecutive week with an oblique injury he sustained last week.

For the second consecutive week the Jacksonville Jaguars only had one player on their final injury report as tight end Seth DeValve is still recovering from the oblique injury he sustained last Thursday.

The Jags haven’t had the best luck at the tight end position and last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts left them in worse shape at the position. With DeValve out, they only entered the game with Josh Oliver and Ben Koyack at the position but Oliver had to be placed on injured reserve afterward as a result of sustaining multiple back fractures.

The Jags signed veteran tight end Nick O’Leary out of free-agency Monday and promoted Charles Jones from their practice squad. Both will now join Koyack giving the Jags three tight ends to travel to Tennessee with.

AFC South playoff picture: Texans regain No. 1 spot in division after “Thursday Night Football” victory

The Houston Texans are once again the divisional leaders of the AFC South after an epic battle with the Colts.

Coming into the 2019 regular season, some fans expected the AFC South to be a close and competitive division and it has lived up to those expectations. In this week’s “Thursday Night Football” matchup, the Houston Texans (7-4) and Indianapolis Colts (6-5) put on a show at NRG Stadium as their battle went down to the wire but was ultimately won by the Texans with the final score being 20-17. As a result, they regained the lead in the division.

Houston Texans 7-4

Indianapolis Colts 6-5

Tennessee Titans 5-5

Jacksonville Jaguars 4-6

The battle was neck-and-neck much of the way. In the first quarter, neither team could score, however, things started to get rolling in the second quarter. The Colts took a page out of Week 11’s game against the Jags and got quarterback Jacoby Brissett another rushing touchdown, while Deshaun Watson answered by taking advantage of a missed assignment in the Colts’ secondary that led to a wide-open DeAndre Hopkins touchdown catch. Both teams were also able to add a field goal before the half and went into half time with the score knotted up at 10-10.

In the third quarter, the Colts threw the first punch and connected with a rushing touchdown courtesy of running back Jonathan Williams, who continued his success from Week 11’s game against the Jags. Ultimately, he finished the game with just over 100 yards, the aforementioned touchdown and 22 carries. His touchdown also put the Colts up 17-10 in the third, though the Texans managed to score another field goal to make it 17-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Hopkins was able to hone in while understanding what was at stake and caught the game-winning touchdown with roughly 12:36 left in the game. That proved to be all the Texans needed as neither team scored again.

The new key divisional game, of course, will be the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans game on Sunday. Winning the division will be an incredibly difficult achievement for Jacksonville, especially if it comes down to trying to remove the Texans from the No. 1 spot. However, before they even have the conversation about playoff hopes they need to get to .500 first. That journey begins Sunday as they take on the 5-5 Titans, who chasing postseason hopes of their own.

Leonard Fournette ready to roll after encouraging chat with father and Hall-of-Famer Marcus Allen

Leonard Fournette talks about reaching out to a few encouraging people in the process of going through a rough patch in his career.

[jwplayer CyWAa1YN-ThvAeFxT]

The Jacksonville Jaguars have struggled offensively as of late and most would say it’s been because they’ve gotten away from running back Leonard Fournette. In their last two games, they’ve only given him 19 rushing attempts for 63 rushing yards, which clearly isn’t the recipe for success.

Needless to say, Fournette’s lack of touches hasn’t just been frustrating for the fanbase but him as well, however, the third-year tailback told the media he’s now refueled after speaking with the coaches, his father and Hall-of-Fame tailback Marcus Allen, who he’s known since high school.

Nothing like receiving advice from a top-15 rushing leader who has seen it all, right?

There were rumblings from the local media that Fournette left Sunday’s game  extremely frustrated, and quite frankly, it’s hard to blame him. After how their battle with the Houston Texans ended Week 9, most believed offensive coordinator John DeFilippo would get back to utilizing Fournette, who was the AFC’s top rusher not that long ago. However, that wasn’t the case against the Colts and the results may be proof of what the issue is.

Both DeFilippo and Marrone took full responsibility for the Jags’ game-planning as of late and it seems things may be hashed out now. With the Jags looking desperately for a playoff push, fans should look for their approach to change and expect Fournette to receive 20 carries or more Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Todd Wash discusses why Jags are having issues against the run

The Jags’ linebacking corps has been an issue all year and DC Todd Wash confirmed the main issue most fans have been pointing to all along.

The Jacksonville Jaguars team as a whole has struggled in their last two games but the fans especially have been pointing fingers at the defense, who’ve struggled mightily against the rush. Dating back to their loss to the Houston Texans in London they’ve given up 480 total yards to opposing rushers and many fans have pinned those issues on the team’s linebacking corps.

Heading into this regular season, the linebacker position was an area of concern with Telvin Smith’s retirement and Myles Jack not having a strong 2018 season. Now, the fears of the fanbase have seemingly come true, as the group is struggling with shedding blocks, which has led to some of the Jags’ issues against the rush.

Jags defensive coordinator Todd Wash pretty much confirmed what some fans were speculating about the linebacker play Thursday and admitted he has to do a better job prepping his unit in general.

“Well in our system we’re an attack front, so it’s not like we sit and try to cover up linemen and keep them off the second level, Wash said. “So, within our system that’s not what we do. Some systems they do, but for us, we’re an attack system and then when you get on a block you have to get off a block is basically the way our system is built from the front seven and nickel, or the front eight and base.”

Wash added that playing “downhill,” as some have suggested, isn’t necessarily the answer either because in today’s game that would put the linebackers out of position to help out in the passing game, too.

“Not that everybody knows, but if our linebackers just run downhill, we’re going to get killed in the passing game,” Wash added. “It’s just the way we play our system. It’s the way Gus [Bradley] plays it, it’s the way [Robert] Saleh plays it, it’s the way they play it in Seattle. Your linebackers can’t get just downhill, a lot of people don’t understand that, a lot of people don’t understand football to be honest with you. So, our scheme allows them to go east and west, but when he does see it, we need to see our linebackers getting downhill better than we have.”

Of course, all of the statements above are not to say the linebackers are solely to blame, but they’ve clearly been a big part of the defense’s issues. Add in the loss of Smith’s pursuit speed and now fans are looking at a defense that is significantly worse than 2017’s group, which led the team to the AFC Championship.

Needless to say, the Jags’ inability to get off blocks are just some of the fundamental things the team has likely emphasized in practice this week. However, with the Tennessee Titans, Derrick Henry and their powerhouse mentality up next, we’ll see just how much they have improved throughout practice as Wash’s job could hang in the balance.

Jaguars expect to face a much different Titans team on Sunday

Things weren’t pretty for the Tennessee Titans offense in Week 3’s 20-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Things weren’t pretty for the Tennessee Titans offense in Week 3’s 20-7 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But a lot has changed since then.

Ryan Tannehill has since replaced Marcus Mariota at quarterback, and has posted a 3-1 record as a Titans starter while doing so.

He’s completed 71.3% of his passes this year, throwing for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns. Tannehill has looked much more confident and decisive in the pocket than Mariota did at the beginning of the season, and it’s clear the offense is running more efficiently with him at the helm.

[lawrence-related id=22837]

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone expects to see the team at full force, and believes this is the best version of Tannehill he’s gone up against.

This is a team that will likely put points on the board much earlier than it did in the third week of the season, when the Titans remained scoreless until the fourth quarter.

“I think, obviously, they’re getting healthier,” Marrone said on a conference call.

“With Ryan (Tannehill), obviously I was in Buffalo when he was in Miami. Watching him now, I really think he’s playing the best I’ve seen him play. He’s playing with a lot of confidence. He’s putting the ball into tight windows, he’s able to run. Obviously, Derrick Henry is an outstanding runner behind a very good offensive line. You’ve got guys on the outside and four tight ends. I mean, there’s a lot of challenges. When you look at them on offense, it’s almost like pick your poison. If you try to stop one, the other guys are good enough to kick your butt. Our defense is going to have to play real good, sound football all the way around.”

[lawrence-related id=22828]

The Titans’ offensive line set a low bar for themselves the last time the team took on Jacksonville, allowing a total of nine sacks in one game.

Marrone looks to see better pass protection and overall more improved o-line unit overall this time around.

“Yeah. I mean, it’s always tough,” he said. “They’ve got one of the better offensive lines in the league, the quarterbacks playing really well, so it’s a challenge every week.”

The Titans and Jaguars are set to kick off at 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.
