Vegas thinks Texans will win at least 9 games in 2024

The Houston Texans are predicted to win the same amount of games as they did in 2023, and four more than they were predicted a year ago.

The Houston Texans head into 2024 with considerable hype.

As such, a Vegas sportsbook gave Houston favorable win total odds. DraftKings’ initial win total for the Texans is set at 9.5, and their -100 odds to hit the over or the under is better than the other team with a 9.5 win total — The New York Jets with +125 to hit the over and -150 to hit the under.

Houston’s 9.5 wins also ranks behind 12 other teams with 10.5-11.5 wins each.

For reference, Houston was given -110 odds to get over/under 5.5 wins in 2023 — a number the Texans eclipsed by Week 11.

It makes sense that Vegas thinks Houston can finish with around the same amount of wins it did in 2023. It would have been more of a surprise to see the number lower than nine wins considering what the Texans already did this offseason.

Not only did Houston win 10 games, take the AFC South crown and win a playoff game in 2023, but Houston’s first-round picks from this past season — C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr. — both won their respective NFL Rookie of the Year awards. The Texans made some major moves in free agency as well, including the signing of Danielle Hunter and the trade for running back Joe Mixon.

Houston’s schedule could be its biggest concern, though. The Texans will have to play other division winners because they won the AFC South. Meaning the Baltimore Ravens, the Kansas City, the Buffalo Bills and the Dallas Cowboys will be on the docket in 2024. Houston will also have to play the NFC North with the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers.

The number given by DraftKings is solid for one of the ascending teams in the NFL. Now it’s on Stroud and company to hit that market in 2024.

Vegas win totals released for Wisconsin, every Big Ten team in 2024 football season

Surprised by Wisconsin’s 2024 win total?

Only 194 days separate us from the start of the 2024 college football season.

The year brings some continuity for the Wisconsin Badgers. Both head coach Luke Fickell and offensive coordinator Phil Longo are back for a second year leading the program. There are some differences for the Badgers, none bigger than Miami transfer Tyler Van Dyke starting under center.

The year brings a combination of promise for the Badgers paired with a brutal schedule.

For the Big Ten as a whole, there are significant changes. USC, UCLA Oregon and Washington enter a conference structure that no longer includes divisions. The interest in the conference should rise, along with the competition level for schools such as Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska.

We have already power-ranked every program in the Big Ten Conference and predicted the win-loss record of each team in 2024.

Here are FanDuel Sportsbook‘s newly released win totals for every Big Ten team entering 2024:

Breaking down Jordan Walsh, JD Davison and Jay Scrubb’s play with the Summer Celtics

The NBA’s 2023 Las Vegas Summer League might be over, but that does not mean we have to stop learning from it.

The NBA’s 2023 Las Vegas Summer League might be over, but that does not mean we have to stop learning from it. And that is exactly the tack taken by “The Box And 1 with Coach Spins” podcast host Adam Spinella, who gives insights into the standout performances of three Boston Celtics players in a recent clip.

Those players are Jordan Walsh, Boston’s No. 38 pick of the 2023 NBA draft; JD Davison, the second-year Celtics two-way floor general; and Jay Scrubb, a new two-way shooting guard. While the team may not have been the most successful in the annual Nevada exhibition series, these players caught the coach’s attention, potentially earning themselves valuable playing time with the Celtics’ regular roster.

To hear more of coach Spins’ breakdown of these three Celtics, check out the clip embedded below.

Irish in the NFL: Las Vegas Raiders Bring Back Te’Von Coney

the Raiders announced they would be bringing back former Notre Dame star Te’Von Coney on a reserve/futures contract

The Oakland Raiders officially became the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday as an incredible history officially came to an end with a new era for both the franchise and the NFL now set to begin.

Friday saw just slightly less significant news as the Raiders announced they would be bringing back former Notre Dame star Te’Von Coney on a reserve/futures contract.

Coney didn’t make the Raiders roster in 2019 but was a part their practice squad after being signed as an un-drafted free agent last spring.

Coney had a monstrous final two seasons at Notre Dame recording 239 tackles, 21 which were for loss between 2017 and 2018, two years the Fighting Irish went a combined 22-4.

ESPN FPI projects remainder of Notre Dame football season (updated)

8 games to go. What do you have Notre Dame’s final record being?

Notre Dame is just 2-2 despite dominating at North Carolina last weekend and are fresh off a bye as they prepare to take on BYU in Las Vegas this coming weekend.  With eight games to go the Irish have plenty to play for even if the College Football Playoff and New Year’s Six are off the table.

Is Notre Dame certain to go bowling at all this year? How likely are the Irish to win eight or more games? Both seem a lot more likely following the 45-32 victory in Chapel Hill and obviously didn’t take a hit during the bye week.

I’m in a love-hate relationship with ESPN’s FPI.  I say it almost weekly but it’s true. It takes emotion out of the rankings and uses mathematical formulas to rank all Football Bowl Subdivision teams 1-131 weekly. However, it seems lacking when it comes to teams regularly find ways to lose or sneak out wins, something that is hard to quantify but is impossible to convince me isn’t real (see Auburn).

Kyle Hamilton thanks Notre Dame fans

What is your favorite memory of Kyle Hamilton at Notre Dame?

Ahead of the first round of the [autotag]NFL draft[/autotag] on Thursday, Notre Dame star safety [autotag]Kyle Hamilton[/autotag] took a few seconds to record a message for Fighting Irish fans and share it on the Notre Dame football Twitter account.

Hamilton will likely hear his name called in the first half of Thursday’s first round and will make any defense he becomes a member of better in no time.  Just how high he’ll get selected remains to be seen but his stock has seemingly fallen a little bit after a 40-yard dash time that left some to be desired at both the NFL combine and the Notre Dame pro day.

Here is what Hamilton had to say to the Notre Dame faithful ahead of his graduation of sorts Thursday.

Notre Dame 2022 Schedule Nearly Finalized

Does anyone face a tougher schedule in 2022? Mercy!

It was made official on Tuesday that Notre Dame will take on BYU in the Shamrock Series game on October 8, 2022.  With that announcement we now know all 12 of Notre Dame’s opponents (officially) for the 2022 season.  We also know the dates for 10 of the 12 contests with only two remaining to be determined.

On paper it appears to be one of the best schedules in the nation and it starts with a massive week one matchup as the Irish head to Ohio State for the first time since 1995.

Here is the entire 2022 Notre Dame schedule:

Vegas says Washington’s odds to beat Rams improve with Kyle Allen at QB

The spread for Washington vs. Los Angeles has dropped two points since Kyle Allen was named the starting QB, with the Rams favored by 7.5.

If you want proof that Kyle Allen gives Washington a better chance to win than Dwayne Haskins, who was recently benched following a career-best performance, look no further than the Las Vegas point spread for the game against the Los Angeles Rams this weekend.

When the betting line opened up on Sunday night, LA was favored to win by 10.5 points, according to Odds Shark. The line dipped a little bit over the next 48 hours, but the news that Allen would be the starting QB when the two teams kick off on Sunday, the line dropped to 7.5 points.

[lawrence-related id=42388]

It’s clear that Allen is at least a slightly better QB than Haskins, and he gives the team a better chance to win a few games this year; that’s the entire reasoning behind the benching of Dwayne Haskins. However, what’s unknown thus far is whether or not Allen is good enough to lead Washington to a NFC East division title, and a subsequent playoff spot, as well as why the team decided to go back on their mantra of using this season as a rebuilding year so quickly.

[lawrence-related id=42386]

We have a lot of questions, and not a lot of answers, but the numbers do prove that Allen gives Washington a slightly better chance to win on Sunday. Take that for what it’s worth.

Does Notre Dame cover huge number Saturday vs. South Florida?

Just how big of a favorite will Notre Dame be you ask?

When Notre Dame welcomes South Florida to South Bend on Saturday the Fighting Irish will be a sizable favorite as they look to move to 2-0 on the 2020 season.

Just how big of a favorite will Notre Dame be you ask?

The Irish enter as a 25.5 point favorite with the total currently being listed at 48.5 points, meaning to hit that near the head it’d mean a final score neaat 36.5-11.5 in Notre Dame’s favor.
