Buzzer is intended to be a different way of watching sports, one Han believes can appeal to younger audiences he thinks are being underserved or ignored by networks. Instead of asking viewers to watch whole games, Buzzer invites them to pick and choose the moments they want to tune into. Users download the app and input their favorite teams or players, then get notifications when games are close late, when a star player is going off for a big night or even when there’s something exciting happening the user might be interested in. Buzzer is trying to get users to tune in for the moments they’d regret missing. The inspiration is, not surprisingly, based off Han’s experience at Twitter.

Buzzer, he says, can address that generational gap. The average age of an NHL viewer was 49 in 2017; Han said that 72 percent of the Buzzer that bought NHL moments was between 18-and-29. He said the median age of Buzzer users since it launched in full in October, in line with the start of the NBA season, is 25 and that 83 percent of its audience is made up of millennials and Gen Z. The average NBA viewer in 2017 was 42. The company has also embraced betting this year. It unveiled a partnership deal with FanDuel and now dispenses its totals and spreads within the app and users can follow their bets; Buzzer does not take bets. Han said in-game betting is a “very natural fit” with Buzzer, but also noted that the company has maintained neutrality among the various sportsbooks.

LeBron James partners with Crypto.com

They have already learned firsthand about how things drive and soar from Goodyear. How toys are made and designed by Little Tikes. And now Akron students participating in his I Promise program are going to venture into the Metaverse. NBA star LeBron James has announced a new partnership between Crypto.com and his namesake foundation to help Akron kids — some 1,600 in all — to learn firsthand not only how cryptocurrency works, but the technology behind it and all the ways it will impact their lives and potential career paths in the future.

“It’s been amazing to see how many doors we’ve been able to open for my I Promise students and their families through the work we do with our partners and what we’re building with House Three Thirty,” James told the Beacon Journal through a spokesperson. “It’s important to me that we keep opening those doors – especially when it comes to Web3 and our digital future. “I’m still learning as everything keeps evolving, and now with Crypto.com, I want to make sure my kids and families are part of that as well.”

Mark Cuban on NBA Top Shot: ‘It’s great for our business’

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, an NFT and crypto advocate, shared via email his thoughts on NBA Top Shot and the company’s outlook. “I’m thrilled from an NBA perspective. It’s great for our business,” he said. “I think their challenge is serving multiple masters, their collectors, their speculators, the yin and yang of supporting developers of apps on their Flow blockchain and speculators in their token. “They have taken on a huge and difficult challenge. The reality is that Top Shot is their proof of concept for their blockchain, but they will need much more to sustain Flow. Which is why I think they have raised so much money. Running a blockchain is a very difficult business.”

“In February, Dapper Labs’ NBA Top Shot generated $226 million in trades, accounting for 46 percent of the record NFT trading volume,” DappRadar wrote in its annual industry report published in December. “Although the next wave of Ethereum NFT collectibles caused the robust metrics, it is essential to highlight that Flow’s collection was a critical NFT catalyst for the rest of the year and a sign of things to come.” Overall, NFT projects across all categories did $21-$23 billion, per industry tracking reports, up from about $100 million in 2020 sales and trades.
