Here’s where Tari Eason is heading in latest NBA mock draft

Could Eason sneak into the lottery in this year’s draft?

We’re just about a week and a half out from the 2022 NBA draft, and analysts are beginning to lock in their final projections for the first round and lottery, especially.

In the latest mock draft from CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish, there is a bit of a departure from the consensus at the top, as he has Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren going first overall instead of the current favorite, Auburn’s Jabari Smith.

However, LSU fans are likely most interested in where he has star sophomore forward [autotag]Tari Eason[/autotag] heading. Though he mostly came off the bench for the Tigers this year, he was one of the most dominating players in the SEC and the entire country.

He’s seen as a first-round pick with some projections showing him as a lottery pick. Parrish isn’t quite so optimistic, and he has Eason falling to the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 23.

Eason was a breakout star at LSU after transferring following a so-so first season at Cincinnati. He’s a versatile frontcourt option who can guard multiple positions and punish defenses in transition opportunities.

The 76ers are a team still looking to get over the hump after an exit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals this season. Adding a physical wing player like Eason who can also be a factor on offense would be a nice boost, though Eason and Tigers fans would like to see the standout go off the board earlier in the night.

Latest mock draft has Sixers grabbing LSU’s Tari Eason at No. 23

The latest mock draft has the Philadelphia 76ers selecting LSU forward, Tari Eason.

The 2022 NBA draft is set for June 23 at the Barclays Center and the Philadelphia 76ers will hold the No. 23 pick in the draft after the Brooklyn Nets decided to defer the pick they acquired in the James Harden deal to 2023.

The Sixers could, of course, trade that pick in a deal that could maybe get Tobias Harris off the books before free agency begins at the end of June, but at the moment, they hold that pick and now it’s time to look at some mock draft options.

Philadelphia could use a guy who can knock down an open triple while also being an all-around player in terms of defending and attacking the glass. Somebody like LSU’s Tari Eason is somebody who makes a lot of sense at No. 23.

In a mock draft performed by Sports Illustrated, they have the Sixers selecting Eason with their pick:

The Nets chose to defer their rights to this pick and send it to the 76ers, instead obtaining Philadelphia’s unprotected first-rounder in 2023, which immediately becomes a pretty interesting trade chip for Brooklyn. Considering Daryl Morey’s historical distaste for using draft picks, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Philly try and flip this one. That said, Eason would be a pretty interesting option here, considering his analytics-friendly production and his potential fit as a big, rangy defender. Eason is a bit of a work in progress despite already being 21, and he’s an acquired taste amongst teams, but this could be a sensible landing spot. Eason’s basketball IQ is a bit suspect, and he’s foul-prone and an average shooter, but if he can iron those things out he should be able to help a team.

Eason shot 35.9% from deep on 2.4 attempts as a sophomore at LSU while averaging 16.9 points and 6.6 rebounds. Standing at 6-foot-8, Eason does tick off a lot of boxes for the Sixers and that is something that Morey and the rest of the front office will have to look into as they all move forward with building this team.

The internal conversations for the 14th …

The internal conversations for the 14th pick — if the Cavs keep the player instead of trading his draft rights — have centered around Daniels (expected to be off the board when they are on the clock), Branham, Sochan, Davis (could go earlier than 14), Arizona shooting guard Ben Mathurin (Cavs watched him workout in LA), LSU’s Tari Eason (coming to Cleveland for a pre-draft workout soon), Kansas swingman Ochai Agbaji, Kentucky’s TyTy Washington, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell (will conduct a workout with the Cavs this week) and French swingman Ousmane Dieng (his draft stock is all over the place).

Former LSU forward Tari Eason worked out with Thunder in pre-draft visit

12 seems a bit too high for Tari Eason but 30 is too low for him as well.

The Oklahoma City Thunder worked out LSU forward Tari Eason in a pre-draft visit, per The Athletic’s Josh Robbins.

Eason is projected to be a first-round pick selected between the end of the lottery and the early 20s. In 33 games last season, Eason averaged 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and one assist on 52.1% shooting.

The Thunder own four of the first 34 picks: second, 12th, 30th and 34th. Selecting Eason at No. 12 would be a bit of a reach, but if the Thunder can combine two picks in the 30s to move up into the 20s, perhaps Eason will drop far enough to be available.

New ESPN mock draft has Bulls taking LSU’s Tari Eason in first-round

ESPN’s Jonathon Givony has the LSU forward heading to the Windy City.

It’s mock draft season as the NBA draft is just 21 days away.

For the Chicago Bulls, they currently hold the No. 18 pick in the first round where they’ll be able to add a potential role player off the bench, like they did in the 2021 NBA draft by selecting Ayo Dosunmu out of Illinois.

In ESPN’s Jonathon Givony’s most recent mock draft, he has the Bulls selecting LSU forward Tari Eason at No. 18.

Givony:

The Bulls need to add depth in the frontcourt and shore up their defense, which ranked second-worst last season among playoff teams. Eason is one of the most explosive and productive players in the draft, putting consistent pressure on opposing defenses with his quick first step, physicality and insatiable intensity, characteristics that allow him to live at the free throw line. These same traits helped make him one of the most versatile defenders in college, a magnet for steals, blocks and rebounds who flew all over the floor in LSU’s suffocating press while rotating from guarding point guards to big men.

With reserve big man Tristan Thompson hitting unrestricted free agency and Tony Bradley having a player option, the Bulls could enter the offseason in need of frontcourt depth behind Nikola Vucevic. With Eason’s athleticism on both ends and his multifaceted defensive skillset, he’d make total sense for Chicago at No. 18.

Ohio State’s EJ Liddell, who worked out for the Bulls on Wednesday, is slated to land at No. 23 to the Philadelphia 76ers per Givony’s mock draft.

Where does Tari Eason stand in most recent ESPN NBA mock draft?

Eason continues to receive first-round projections for the NBA draft, which will take place later this month.

We’re just over three weeks away from the 2022 NBA draft, and that means star LSU forward [autotag]Tari Eason[/autotag] will soon find out where his basketball career will be continuing.

Eason — a transfer from Cincinnati who had a breakout year in his lone season with the Tigers as a sophomore in 2021-22 — is seen as an almost certain first-round pick and even a potential lottery pick in this year’s draft.

The latest projection from ESPN basketball insider Jonathan Givony isn’t quite as optimistic about Eason’s chances of going in the top 14, but he still has the 6-foot-8 player going relatively early with the 18th pick to the Chicago Bulls.

Eason is a dominant defensive player and would certainly help the Bulls in that regard. He was a semifinalist for National Defensive Player of the Year in addition to a lot of production on offense. He averaged 16.9 points and 6.6 rebounds coming off the bench, earning the SEC Sixth Man of the Year award in the process.

There are questions about him, certainly. His difficulty staying out of foul trouble is one of the primary reasons LSU chose to limit his minutes last season, and if he’s going to develop into a starter at the next level, he’ll need to find a way to stay on the court. Still, given his wide range of abilities, he’d be a no-brainer pick at this point in the draft.

Hornets hosted Tari Eason, others for pre-draft workout

Eason was among the draft-eligible prospects that worked out with the Hornets over the weekend.

LSU sophomore Tari Eason was among the draft-eligible prospects that worked out with the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend, the team announced.

Eason was named the SEC Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.1 blocks and one assist in 33 games. He recorded four games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds, the most by a Tigers player since 2015.

The 6-foot-8 forward emerged as a tremendous defensive player this season, ranking fourth in the country in defensive rating (83.2) and fifth in defensive box plus-minus (5.7). He was one of 10 players named as a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award.

In addition to Eason, the Hornets also hosted UT-Arlington center Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu, Gonzaga guard Rasir Bolton, NC State guard Terquavion Smith, SMU forward Marcus Weathers and UConn forward Isaiah Whaley for workouts.

Charlotte enters the draft with the 13th and 15th selection in the first round and the 45th pick in the second round, respectively. Of the players brought in, Eason and Smith are most commonly projected to be drafted in the first round.

The NBA draft will take place on June 23.
