Jaguars make four practice squad moves including OL signing

The Jaguars added two players and let another two go from their practice squad Tuesday, signing offensive lineman Dennis Daley and long snapper Peter Bowden and releasing linebacker Tanner Muse and running back Jake Funk from the unit.

A 2019 sixth-round NFL draft pick by the Carolina Panthers who has since played with the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals, Daley has appeared in 55 games and made 37 starts, 28 at tackle and nine at guard, over six seasons.

Bowden signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin this offseason and was waived during the preseason. He made 39 appearances with the Badgers in college.

Muse signed with Jacksonville’s practice squad in August after spending the preseason with the team. He was elevated to the active roster for three games and recorded one assisted special teams tackle against the Indianapolis Colts.

Funk joined the Jaguars’ practice squad on Oct. 1, was released from the unit last Tuesday and ultimately brought back on Wednesday. He was promoted to Jacksonville’s active roster in Weeks 7-8 but did not appear in either game.

Jaguars vs. Colts: Jacksonville elevates two from practice squad

The Jaguars promoted linebacker Tanner Muse and safety Matthew Jackson to their active roster from the practice squad via standard elevation ahead of their Week 5 home matchup with the Colts, the club announced Saturday.

Muse will be active for the second week in a row, after Jacksonville placed starting linebacker Foyesade Oluokun on its injured reserve on Sept. 28.

A third-round pick by Las Vegas in the 2020 NFL draft, Muse joined the Jaguars this offseason and was relegated to Jacksonville’s practice squad in August following preseason roster cuts. He has recorded 22 tackles and one defended pass over 34 career games.

Jackson joined Jacksonville’s practice squad after preseason roster cuts, too, although it followed his release by Tennessee, one of the Jaguars’ AFC South rivals.

An undrafted free agent in 2023, Jackson made the Titans’ 53-player roster as a rookie and appeared in 10 games, making six total tackles including five on special teams.

Week 5 will mark Jackson’s debut with the Jaguars.

Jaguars sign TE to active roster among Week 4 roster moves

While starting linebacker Foyesade Oluokun’s placement on the Jaguars’ injured reserve stole the spotlight of Jacksonville’s Saturday news dump before facing the Texans in Houston on Sunday, it was one of five moves the club made as it prepares for its first AFC South matchup of the season.

The Jaguars also signed practice squad tight end Josiah Deguara to their active roster, promoted practice squad cornerback Christian Braswell and linebacker Tanner Muse to the active roster via standard elevation, and downgraded starting safety Darnell Savage Jr. (quadriceps) from questionable to out of Week 4.

Deguara, who was promoted to the active roster via standard practice squad elevation in Week 3, will play for the second consecutive week, offering Jacksonville tight end depth as starter Evan Engram (hamstring) is set to miss his third game. He takes the roster spot vacated by Oluokun.

Deguara caught one pass for eight yards in the Jaguars’ 47-10, Monday Night Football loss to the Bills, increasing his career line to 48 receptions for 444 yards and two touchdowns, the vast majority of which he compiled over four seasons with the Packers.

Braswell jumps to the active roster for a third consecutive game as Savage continues to recover from the injury he suffered in practice during Week 2.

A sixth-round draft pick by Jacksonville in 2023, Braswell has logged five tackles this season after appearing in three games but not producing a statistic as a rookie.

Muse’s promotion pairs with Oluokun’s injured reserve placement and fellow starting linebacker Devin Lloyd appearing on the injury report with knee soreness this week. Lloyd enters Week 4 questionable to play.

Muse has recorded 22 total tackles since his third-round draft selection by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, over 23 games and one start with Seattle and the Los Angeles Chargers. He has also spent time with Pittsburgh.

Chargers claim LB Tanner Muse off waivers

The Chargers submitted one waiver claim following NFL cutdown day, adding Tanner Muse.

The Chargers submitted one waiver claim following NFL cutdown day, adding linebacker Tanner Muse.

By claiming Muse, Los Angeles had to add him directly to the 53-man roster. To make room for him, fullback Zander Horvath was waived.

Before joining the Bolts, Muse spent this summer with the Steelers. According to Pro Football Focus, Muse had the seventh-best grade on special teams (84.4) this preseason among players who played at least 30 snaps.

Muse was drafted by the Raiders in 2020 before suffering a foot injury that kept him sidelined the whole season. After he was waived, the Seahawks signed him to their practice squad before elevating him to the active roster in 2021.

Of his 405 total snaps in 2022 with Seattle, 325 came on special teams. Over his first three seasons, Muse has totaled 20 combined tackles and one pass defended.

Before joining the NFL ranks, Muse played college ball at Clemson, where he finished with 237 career tackles (10.5 for loss), 15 passes defended, four sacks, seven interceptions and a forced fumble.

With the Chargers, Muse will primarily serve as a core special teamer. Still, he brings a versatile background and is highly adept in coverage at the linebacker position, so he can help out on defense when needed.
