Jaguars rule out 2, list 7 as questionable vs. Ravens in Week 15

The Jaguars will be without starting defensive backs Tyson Campbell and Andre Cisco on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without two starting defensive backs Sunday night when they play the Baltimore Ravens.

On Friday, the team ruled out cornerback Tyson Campbell and safety Andre Cisco. Second-year cornerback Montaric “Buster” Brown will likely fill in for Campbell and veteran safety Andrew “Dewey” Wingard will probably step in for Cisco.

Another seven Jaguars players are questionable for the Week 15 primetime contest.

Both Jamal Agnew and Christian Braswell are still on injured reserve and had their 21-day practice windows opened earlier this month. If either is available Sunday, that’ll likely be revealed Saturday when the Jaguars decide whether or not they’ll move one or both of them to the active roster.

It’d be a surprise if veteran defensive back Tre Herndon is unavailable after Doug Pederson said earlier Friday that he has cleared concussion protocol and “should be good to go.”

For Baltimore, only two players are questionable and all eyes are on the status of Kyle Hamilton.

During a press conference Friday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said that Hamilton is “in a good place right now,” but also said “we’ll see how he does the next couple days.” The second-year safety has two interceptions, three sacks, and nine tackles for a loss so far in 2023.

Jaguars elevate CB Tevaughn Campbell, TE Josh Pederson for Week 14

The Jaguars added some cornerback and tight end depth with a few players dealing with injuries.

The Jacksonville Jaguars elevated Tevaughn Campbell and Josh Pederson from the practice squad for a Week 14 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Campbell, 30, joined the Jaguars during the 2022 season when he was signed off the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. In his first season in Jacksonville, Campbell appeared in five games and made three tackles.

This year, he has been elevated from the practice squad two times before. The maximum is three, so the Jaguars will need to sign Campbell to the active roster if they hope to use him again in 2023 after Sunday.

Jacksonville’s cornerback depth will be tested in Week 14 with a few players dealing with injuries. Tre Herndon is out due to a concussion and Christian Braswell isn’t yet ready to return from injured reserve. The team will also be without Tyson Campbell, who was downgraded to out due to a quad injury suffered during a rough outing Monday.

Tevaughn Campbell previously spent four seasons in the Canadian Football League before stints with the New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers, and Raiders.

Pederson, son of head coach Doug Pederson, played in his first ever NFL game last week due to an injury suffered by rookie tight end Brenton Strange.

Jaguars open 21-day window for CB Christian Braswell to return from IR

Rookie cornerback Christian Braswell will be back on the practice field for the first time since October.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie cornerback Christian Braswell will be back on the practice field for the first time since October after the team opened his 21-day window to return from injured reserve.

Braswell, a sixth-round rookie, was a healthy scratch in Week 1, but played nine snaps on special teams over the next three weeks. He eventually landed on IR with a hamstring injury.

Jacksonville has dealt with a few injuries at the cornerback position, including losing Tyson Campbell for four games over a five-week stretch due to hamstring issues. In a Week 13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, veteran cornerback Tre Herndon suffered a concussion and second-year cornerback Gregory Junior was dealing with cramps.

Braswell spent three seasons at Temple before finishing his collegiate career with one year at Rutgers where he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors. He recorded 11 pass breakups and three interceptions in his sole season with the Scarlet Knights.

Jaguars place rookie CB Christian Braswell on injured reserve

Sixth-round rookie Christian Braswell was placed on the injured reserve Saturday with a hamstring injury.

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed cornerback Christian Braswell on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, the team announced Saturday.

Braswell, 24, was a healthy scratch in Week 1, but played the next three games after fellow cornerback Gregory Junior landed on injured reserve. The sixth-round rookie played just nine total snaps — all on special teams — during those three appearances, but missed the Jaguars’ 25-20 win against the Buffalo Bills.

This week, Braswell was a limited participant in practice Thursday before sitting out the team’s Friday practice.

With the Jaguars now having both Junior and Braswell on the injured reserve, the team has four cornerbacks on the active roster: Tyson Campbell, Darious Williams, Tre Herndon III, and Montaric “Buster” Brown. However, the team recently got rookie defensive back Antonio Johnson back from a hamstring injury and have begun working him into the secondary.

Jacksonville has veteran cornerback Tevaughn Campbell and sixth-round rookie cornerback Erick Hallett II on the practice squad.

2 questionable, 5 ruled out in Colts vs. Jaguars

These are players with injury designations in Week 6.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-2) and Jacksonville Jaguars (3-2) released their final injury reports included with designations Friday ahead of the Week 6 matchup at TIAA Bank Field.

On the final injury report, the Colts ruled out one player while listing two others as questionable for the divisional game. The Jaguars, meanwhile, ruled out four players and listed one as questionable heading into the weekend.

Here’s a look at the players with injury designations ahead of the Week 6 matchup:

Jaguars rule out 4 players, Colts to sit 1 in Week 6 matchup

The Jaguars ruled out four players and listed linebacker Devin Lloyd as questionable for a Week 6 game against the Colts.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without wide receiver Zay Jones, offensive lineman Walker Little, cornerback Christian Braswell, and defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton when they play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6, the team announced Friday.

Questionable for the matchup is linebacker Devin Lloyd, who missed the last two weeks due to a thumb injury that required surgery.

None are surprises and Lloyd appears in line to return to the lineup, although he’ll be wearing a cast over his injured right hand.

“It doesn’t change anything, but from a grip standpoint, he just can’t bend that thumb because it’s immobilized basically,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said of Lloyd’s cast Friday. “He has the ability to use his four fingers, but he says he feels fine. He feels comfortable using it the more time he’s out there, just catching a football is probably not the most ideal with a cast on your wrist.”

A notable absence on the injury report is Dawuane Smoot, who is set to play in his first game since an Achilles injury ended his 2022 season.

For the Colts, the offensive line will be the question mark with right tackle Braden Smith out due to various injuries.

Indianapolis will likely start rookie Blake Freehand at right tackle in Smith’s place after he started at left tackle in the last two weeks. The Colts also had an ankle/foot problem pop up for Ryan Kelly that kept him out of practice Friday and has the center listed as questionable.

Jaguars vs. Colts inactives: JaMycal Hasty, Parker Washington out

Five of the six Jaguars players listed as inactive Sunday against the Colts are rookies.

The Jacksonville Jaguars listed six players as inactive ahead of a 1 p.m. ET kickoff against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

There were no surprises on the list as rookies Antonio Johnson and Tyler Lacy were already ruled out on the Friday injury report. The rest of the list was also comprised mostly of rookies:

The only veteran who is inactive for the Jaguars in running back JaMycal Hasty, who was replaced in the third spot on the depth chart by free agent signee D’Ernest Johnson.

Jacksonville kept seven wide receivers on the 53-man roster after preseason, but will roll into Sunday with five after sitting down rookies Parker Washington and Elijah Cooks.

For the Colts, the big news on their list of inactives is that running back Zack Moss is officially out of action in Week 1.

Moss, who is recovering from a broken arm, was listed as questionable Friday, but downgraded to doubtful Saturday. With Jonathan Taylor also out of action, the Colts are expected to start third-year running back Deon Jackson.

Jaguars’ Anton Harrison, Christian Braswell change jersey numbers

Jaguars rookies Anton Harrison and Christian Braswell are changing their jersey numbers with the regular season on deck.

Jacksonville Jaguars first- and sixth-round rookies Anton Harrison and Christian Braswell will wear different jersey numbers this season than they did through camp and preseason.

On Thursday morning, the Jaguars announced Harrison will wear No. 77 this year and Braswell will wear No. 21. The team also said newly added Angelo Blackson will take No. 90.

Harrison, the No. 27 overall pick in April, previously wore No. 76 this offseason. The No. 77 jersey was owned by offensive tackle Josh Wells, who landed on the season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. There’s been no announcement of a move to release Wells from the IR with a settlement, but Harrison’s jersey swap may indicate that’s coming soon.

Braswell previously wore No. 36 while fellow rookie Latavious Brini, who was waived Tuesday, had No. 21.

Players who once wore the No. 77 jersey in Jacksonville included guard Uche Nwaneri and guard/tackle Zach Wiegert. The Jaguars’ No. 21 jersey once belonged to cornerbacks Aaron Beasley, A.J. Bouye, and Derek Cox. Current Jaguars cornerback Darious Williams was No. 21 for a stretch before switching to No. 31.

Watch: Christian Braswell gets an interception in preseason for the Jaguars

Christian Braswell made a big play on Saturday in his first preseason game.

It has been a good training camp for Christian Braswell as the former Rutgers football defensive back made a big play over the weekend for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Braswell, a sixth-round pick in this past spring’s NFL draft, put in a nice performance on Saturday in his team’s first game of preseason for the Jaguars. does a great job of sitting back and getting an interception off Dallas Cowboys quarterback Will Grier.

It is a good read and reaction from Braswell to create the turnover.

Last season at Rutgers, Braswell was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection (media) and Pro Football Focus had him as a second-team selection in their all-conference selections.

Braswell had 37 total tackles and 11 passes defended last year in his final season at Rutgers.

One of Braswell’s backfield teammates at Rutgers, Christian Izien, is making some noise on the other side of Florida. On Saturday, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said that Izien, a rookie undrafted free agent, has the inside track to be the starting nickleback.

Jaguars 2023 roster review: CB Christian Braswell

Former Temple and Rutgers cornerback Christian Braswell was added by the Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft.

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is still off on the horizon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars officially parted ways with Shaquill Griffin earlier this year, it seemed clear that cornerback would be a top priority for the team in the offseason. While Tyson Campbell is a rising star at the position and Darious Williams thrived after getting moved outside, there was little depth at the position.

Instead, the Jaguars sat tight during free agency and waited until late in the third day of the 2023 NFL draft to finally address the position. The cornerback drought finally ended in the sixth round when Jacksonville added Christian Braswell.

At 5’10, 183 pounds, Braswell isn’t the long, rangy cornerback that the Jaguars often target. But his 4.49 40-yard dash and 40-inch vertical jump show he’s got more than enough athleticism and bounce to stick with NFL receivers.

Contract (2023): $750,000 base salary, $41,898 prorated signing bonus, $791,898 cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars selected Braswell with the No. 202 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL draft.
