New Jersey tight end Charlie Wingfield adds an offer from Rutgers football this week

Rutgers football offers New Jersey tight end Charlie Wingfield.

Charlie Wingifield was offered by Rutgers football on Wednesday night. The New Jersey tight end prospect is seeing his recruitment continue to trend up.

Rutgers joins a recruitment for Wingfield where the likes of Boston College, Duke, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Stanford, Syracuse, Wake Forest and West Virginia have all offered. His most recent offer came from Princeton.

He is a class of 2025 recruit from Rampao (Franklin Lakes).

At 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, Wingfield has good size projections for the Power Five level. Last year as a junior, he had 315 receiving yards and 26 catches for six touchdowns in 11 games played.

He is a multi-sport athlete who plays basketball and baseball for Ramapo:

The class of 2025 is off to a solid start for Rutgers football and currently features four commits. Last fall, Florida quarterback [autotag]Sean Ashenfelder[/autotag] was the first commit in the class.

This year, three prospects from New Jersey have committed to Rutgers, headlined by [autotag]Talibi Kaba[/autotag], a four-star linebacker and a top-five player in the state.

Also joining Kaba in this class are three-star offensive lineman[autotag] Jayden Elijah[/autotag] and three-star defensive back [autotag]Renick Dorilas[/autotag].

What attributes can 2025 recruit Talibi Kaba add to Rutgers football?

Talibi Kaba is a physical linebacker prospect who committed to Rutgers football.

In early February, Rutgers football added a standout prospect in Talibi Kaba to their 2025 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound linebacker is a quick and fluid linebacker who covers a lot of ground and can shine within the Scarlet Knights’ defense.

A linebacker at Hillside (Hillside, New Jersey), Kaba is ranked the No. 5 prospect in New Jersey and the No. 20 ranked linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Kaba received offers from Boston College Duke, Iowa State and Kent State during his recruitment.

Film Review

The future Scarlet Knight is extremely athletic, covering a ton of ground at the linebacker position. He can change direction quickly and is solid in run support and pass coverage. Kaba plays sideline-to-sideline, chasing down ball carries in the open field.

[lawrence-related id=37162,37054]

He is a two-way starter at the high school level, logging multiple carries at the running back position, and showing off his top speed. With his elite speed, Kaba can play the rover position within Defensive Coordinator Joe Harasymiak’s defensive scheme. Also, he can share time playing at the middle and outside linebacker positions.

As Kaba develops toward the Power Five level, he needs to focus on getting stronger and more physical. If Kaba can counter his speed with strength, he can shine at the collegiate level.

Four-star linebacker Talibi Kaba on the ’25 class: Trying to make this the best Rutgers football class in history

Rutgers football commit Talibi Kaba talks about recruiting for the Big Ten program.

Talibi Kaba, the first New Jersey player to commit to Rutgers in the 2025 recruiting class, recently saw a bump in his recruiting rank. The now four-star linebacker is transitioning from being a recruit to a recruiter.

Kaba is very much embracing his role now as a leader of this Rutgers class. He does so with a little extra clout in his recruitment.

Last week, 247Sports elevated Kaba to a four-star status where is the No. 165 player in the nation. He is now the first four-star in the 2025 recruiting class for Rutgers.

And as one of the top players in New Jersey and the highest-ranked Scarlet Knights’ commit, Kaba is hoping to bring in other players along with him to Rutgers football.

“Most definitely, trying to make this the best Rutgers recruiting class in history,” Kaba told Rutgers Wire.

This spring, Kaba hopes to take a visit to check out a Rutgers practice. He is also planning an official visit.

[lawrence-related id=36216,36191]

“I’m going to a Rutgers spring practice and I have an official visit (in) May at Rutgers,” Kaba said.

That unofficial visit is likely for the weekend beginning May 31.

[lawrence-related id=36185,36168]

He said he won’t be taking any other visits, only to Rutgers.

As for the bump in his ranking, Kaba said it is nice but it doesn’t impact the output he is putting into this offseason.

“I mean, I’m happy but the hard work doesn’t stop,” Kaba said.

“I’m going to keep grinding, keep pushing myself to be the best version of me when I go there early.”

Rutgers football commit Talibi Kaba is a four-star recruit

Talibi Kaba talks about becoming a four-star recruit this week.

Talibi Kaba is now a four-star, the Rutgers football commit and standout linebacker from New Jersey seeing a significant rise in the recruiting rankings on Wednesday.

A linebacker at Hillside (Hillside, New Jersey), Kaba is now one of the top players in New Jersey. He committed to Rutgers in early February.

With the bump by 247Sports, Kaba is now the No. 165 recruit in the nation. One month ago on Feb. 6, he was an unranked player.

Now he is 247Sports’ fifth-best player in New Jersey.the No. 20 linebacker in the nation.

Kaba is a quick and fluid linebacker who covers a lot of ground. He has the ability to change direction quickly but is also very solid in run support.

“I got a notification on Twitter and I open it and I saw it says I’m a four-star,” Kaba told Rutgers Wire.

“I was excited because it was out of nowhere. I was happy all the hard work and dedication paid off.”

Kaba’s commitment last month marked the first player from New Jersey to become a part of the 2025 recruiting class. He was joined days later by three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Jayden Elijah[/autotag], an offensive lineman from Matawan (Matawan, New Jersey).

[lawrence-related id=35999,35970]

The first player to commit to Rutgers in this recruiting cycle is Florida quarterback[autotag] Sean Ashenfelder.[/autotag]

Since his bump on Wednesday, Kaba said no new schools have reached out to him. He has locked in some visits though – all to Rutgers.

“I’m going to a Rutgers spring practice and I have an official visit (in) May at Rutgers,” Kaba said.

Kaba said he will not be taking any visits to any other schools.

Did Rutgers make the cut in Michael Thomas III’s top five?

Michael Thomas III cuts down his list to five schools.

One of New Jersey’s top recruits, Michael Thomas III, dropped his top five on Friday. And for Rutgers football, there was some good news in the announcement.

Thomas, despite being one of New Jersey’s top-ranked recruits, is vastly underrated as a prospect. A four-star wide receiver out of Donovan Catholic (Barnegat, New Jersey), Thomas is a top-three recruit in New Jersey according to ESPN and 247Sports.

ESPN ranks him as the tenth-best wide receiver in the nation.

He is electric with the ball in his hands, with 38 catches for 458 yards and five receiving touchdowns last season. In addition, he also ran for 341 yards and four touchdowns on 36 carries.

With game-changing speed, Thomas is perhaps most impressive in his ability to rise up and make contested catches. He plays much bigger than his listed 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds.

His Friday afternoon announcement had a cutdown to Illinois, Rutgers, Syracuse, Penn State and Boston College.

The 2025 recruiting class for Rutgers currently stands at three recruits. In February, Rutgers received commitments from three-star linebacker [autotag]Talibi Kaba[/autotag] and three-star offensive lineman [autotag]Jayden Elijah[/autotag].

The duo of Kaba and Elijah are top 15 recruits in New Jersey’s 2025 class.

Rutgers football lands in the top six for North Carolina edge Taeshawn Alston

Rutgers football recruit Taeshawn Alston cuts down his list to six.

Three-star edge rusher Taeshawn Alston released his top six on Tuesday afternoon. And for Rutgers football, it was some good news.

Last week, Rutgers offered Alston, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound defensive lineman from Vance County High School (Henderson, North Carolina). Despite being his most recent offer, Rutgers nonetheless made the cut for Alston, who is part of the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Alston included Rutgers as part of a top six that includes South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. It is certainly impressive for Rutgers to make Alston’s list having just offered him four days prior.

Programs such as Appalachian State, Colorado and Liberty did not make the six listed by the North Carolina edge rusher.

The cut down to six was made on social media by Alston on Tuesday afternoon:

The Rutgers football class of 2025 currently features three players. Last fall, Florida quarterback [autotag]Sean Ashenfelder[/autotag] became the first verbal in the class. Last week, linebacker/safety [autotag]Talibi Kaba[/autotag], one of New Jersey’s top prospects, committed to the Scarlet Knights.

How many top 10 players in New Jersey’s 2024 class committed to Rutgers football?

How did Rutgers football do in New Jersey’s top 10?

Rutgers football did a very solid job of retaining New Jersey’s top talent during this recruiting cycle. In fact, this might have been the best job of keeping players in-state that has been done by head coach Greg Schiano and his staff since his return to Rutgers four years ago.

A look at recruiting in New Jersey is especially significant given a recent report that had the Garden State growing among the most NFL players per capita. In a recent study, New Jersey ranked twelfth in the nation in sending players to the NFL.

If Rutgers can keep New Jersey’s top talent in-state, then it will have the chance to compete with the best in the Big Ten as well as being consistently ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation.

Rutgers was one of two teams to land multiple top-five players in the class of 2024 from New Jersey, according to 247Sports. They were the only program to register three players from the state’s top 10.

Georgia swept the state’s top two players (No. 1 Jordan Thomas and No. 2 Nyier Daniels) but then Rutgers registered next with No. 3 Chase Winowich and No. 4 A.J. Surace.

Both Winowich (a running back) and Surace (a quarterback) attended Notre Dame Prep in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Winowich, a four-star, is the highest-ranked commit in this class for Rutgers.

He is also a four-star according to ESPN.

Rutgers also pulled in [autotag]Kaj Sanders[/autotag], an athlete from Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, New Jersey). Sanders is No. 9 in 247Sports’ rankings for New Jersey.

[lawrence-related id=35228,35211,35176]

Those are three strong pulls for Rutgers in what was a bit of a down year for recruits in New Jersey.

The 2025 recruiting class for Rutgers has two current commits, with one coming from New Jersey.

Last week, [autotag]Talibi Kaba[/autotag] gave his verbal to Rutgers. The athlete from Hillside (Hillside, New Jersey) chose Rutgers over offers from Boston College, Duke and Iowa State among others.

He said the pursuit from Rutgers made him feel like a priority. That’s good news for the Scarlet Knights as they got quite the player.

[lawrence-related id=35196,35152]

He is a three-star and the No. 13 recruit in New Jersey according to 247Sports. With a strong senior season, Kaba could well finish the year top-10 in New Jersey.
