UNC football quarterback enters the transfer portal

The UNC football program lost a quarterback to the spring transfer portal as Tad Hudson made his decision on Tuesday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels football program is preparing for the annual spring game this Saturday before a long wait until the 2024 season. As UNC prepares for the Week 1 kickoff at Minnesota, they are experiencing some changes on the roster.

The spring transfer portal window is officially open and UNC has seen a few players enter the portal. The latest is reserve quarterback Tad Hudson.

Per Inside Carolina, Hudson is the latest player to enter his name in the portal on Tuesday joining a pair of defensive backs.  Hudson has been practicing with the team this spring as the reserve quarterback behind Max Johnson and Conner Harrell who are battling for the starting job.

Hudson committed to UNC as a four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. He pledged that commitment back in 2021 out of William Amos Hough in North Carolina.

He enrolled early to join the program but did not appear in any games in his career with the Tar Heels.

UNC QB commit stands out in day one of national camp

UNC football commit Tad Hudson is off to a good start this summer as he had an impressive showing to begin a national camp.

June is the month with multiple mega camps across the college football recruiting landscape. It’s a time for coaching staff’s to get a look at a large group of prospects and also time when a lot of recruits see their recruitment take the next step.

While most programs are still looking for their quarterback in the class of 2023, the UNC football program already has its guy in [autotag]Tad Hudson[/autotag]. The North Carolina native committed to [autotag]Mack Brown [/autotag] and the Tar Heels back in August, giving them their first commitment in the 2023 class.

Since then, he continues to impress and did so on Day 1 of the Overtime OT7 national camp in Las Vegas this week, according to 247Sports football recruiting analyst Greg Biggins.

The North Carolina commit, playing for Carolina Stars, has what you call ‘easy velocity’ and the ball really jumps out of his hand with minimal effort. He doesn’t need a wind up or a long release to get it out and he showed the ability to put the ball anywhere he wanted. He also looked good physically, having leaned out a bit over the last year and his game is trending in the right direction.

Hudson is a four-star prospect ranked No. 332 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s ranked as the No. 18 overall quarterback.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound threw for 2,601 yards as a junior with 30 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He completed 56.3 percent of his passes.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn projects Hudson as a multi-year starter and someone who has late round NFL draft potential.

Tar Heels getting big visit from four-star DT this weekend

UNC football is hosting a big time four-star defensive tackle for a visit this weekend.

The North Carolina football program will be hosting another big time visitor this weekend in addition to four-star safety [autotag]Michael Daughtery[/autotag].

2023 four-star defensive tackle [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] will also be on campus this weekend in Chapel Hill visiting UNC. Jarrett has offers from Georgia, North Carolina, Auburn, Michigan, Florida, Miami (Fla), Penn State, Tennessee and many more.

Jarrett was also on UNC’s campus twice last summer.

Jarrett has been a big time prospect on North Carolina’s recruiting board for much of the past year and the Tar Heels sit in a good spot for the four-star DT along with Georgia, but it may be difficult to keep Jarrett in-state after a recent visit to Georgia.

Rivals national writer Adam Gorney recently took a look at Jarrett’s recruitment.

Georgia and North Carolina are the front-runners for Jamaal Jarrett and while I’m never going to count out coach Mack Brown and the Tar Heels for an in-state prospect, the Bulldogs look tough to beat. He had such a great experience there for two days getting to know the coaches and players, sitting in on meetings and experiencing everything Georgia has to offer. If I had to pick right now, Georgia is clearly the frontrunner.

North Carolina has one commitment in the class of 2023 from quarterback [autotag]Tad Hudson[/autotag].
