4-star DL Jamaal Jarrett signs with Georgia football

Jamaal Jarrett is a Dawg.

4-star defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett committed to Georgia back in July, choosing the Bulldogs over Auburn and UNC.

On Wednesday, Jarrett officially sent in his national letter of intent to play for the Bulldogs.

This is a big guy we’re talking about here. Jarrett checks in at 6-foot-6 and 340 pounds.

He hails from Grimsley High School in Greensboro North Carolina and ranks as the nation’s No. 94 overall player and No. 12 ranked defensive lineman.

Tigers land in top three for elite 2023 DT from North Carolina

The Tigers were listed in the top three for 2023 defensive line target Jamaal Jarrett.

2023 defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett released his top three schools on Sunday, one of which was the Auburn Tigers. The two other schools listed were Georgia and North Carolina.

Jarrett has been a priority target for the Tigers coaching staff in the 2023 recruiting class. He is regarded as a four-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. Jarrett is listed at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds. The North Carolina native recently took an official visit to Auburn on June 3rd. He also took official visits to North Carolina (May 20th) and Georgia (June 10th).

At Grimsley High School, he also does shot put and discus. The monstrous recruit is high on the Tigers. Here is what Sports Illustrated’s John Garcia had to say on a Locked On Auburn podcast regarding Jarrett’s interest in the Tigers:

“Auburn’s been a school that he’s been mentioning pretty early when you talk to him back in January and February and that consistency helps with the Tigers,” Garcia said. “He took an official visit and got a more intimate look at the program and really, it’s becoming an SEC race at the top with Auburn and Georgia vs staying at home and playing for North Carolina.”

With his size, the Tigers could use him in a variety of different roles. Defensive line coach [autotag]Jimmy Brumbaugh[/autotag] is really high on Jarrett. He would be a massive addition to the Tigers’ 2023 recruiting class. He is set to announce his commitment on July 19th.

UNC lands in final three for top 2023 in-state defensive lineman

The UNC football program made the top-three for the top in-state player in the 2023 class, Jamaal Jarrett.

The UNC football program continues to be a top team on the recruiting trail under Mack Brown and that continued this weekend by being included in a top defensive tackles top list.

2023 four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] trimmed his list to three programs and announced a decision date on Sunday. His list now includes North Carolina, Georgia and Auburn and he will make his announcement on July 19.

Jarrett is the No. 50 overall prospect in the Rivals250 class of 2023 rankings and is the No. 2 defensive tackle.

From Grimsley (NC) High School, Jarrett broke down his connection with the UNC staff with On3.com.

“North Carolina is home to me (literally),” Jarrett said. “Chapel Hill has been supporting me since the beginning of this process. In fact they were my first offer. I love how Coach Cross takes care of his defensive lineman and how UNC provides so much love and care for their athletes especially “their in-state“ guys.

“On my visit me and my family felt the vibe they were trying to get off and we could tell they really loved us. I’ve visited this place so many times I could give people tours. UNC is so close to home that I’d be able to visit and be able to check on my family if anything were to happen. UNC is a top contender in my recruitment because of the strong coaching staff and them being “home’.”

North Carolina has made Jarrett a priority since his recruitment started. The Tar Heels were the first offer for the 6-foot-5 lineman.

One additional piece to the puzzle that could help the Tar Heels in Jarrett’s recruitment is current freshman at UNC, Travis Shaw. Shaw and Jarrett were teammates at Grimsley before Shaw enrolled at North Carolina.

Jarret has taken visit to North Carolina in back-to-back months.

UNC currently has six commits in its 2023 class

The list of upcoming official visits for Auburn

A huge weekend is on the horizon.

On Wednesday, 2023 offensive tackle Ian Geffrard announced that he would be visiting the Plains from June 3rd-5th. It will be his first official visit since being offered in August of 2021. It will be the third trip that he has taken overall to Auburn.

Geffrard is regarded as a three-star according to 247Sports’ recruiting rankings. He is listed at 6-foot-6 and 350 pounds. Geffrard attends Whitefield Academy in Mableton, Georgia. Several programs that have offered him thus far are Mississippi State, West Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Arkansas.

As it stands, the Tigers only have two commitments in their 2023 recruiting class. The two are four-stars Bradyn Joiner and Terrance Love. Joiner, an offensive guard, is the lone offensive lineman in the Tigers class thus far. It is evident that the coaching staff is in search of some protection off the edge. The staff has offered 23 offensive tackles in the class and several of them have already made visits to the Plains. Now, it appears that the Georgia native has become a priority.

Geffrard isn’t the only high-priority target coming to Auburn. The full list of visits coming this weekend:

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with one of Clemson’s top defensive tackle targets in the class of 2023 – Grimsley High School (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett – to get the latest on his recruitment and where things stand with the Tigers.

The 6-foot-6, 350-pound rising senior remains in touch with members of Clemson’s staff, including defensive tackles coach Nick Eason, defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin and head coach Dabo Swinney.

“Me and Coach Eason, Goodwin, and Swinney have really just talked about getting my family up there and making my OV (official visit) pretty much,” Jarrett told TCI. “It’s always cool on the phone with them, but they’ve really just been in contact, and I’ve been checking in on them about my visit.”

Jarrett told TCI that he plans to officially visit Clemson from Sept. 9-11, the weekend the Tigers play Furman at Death Valley on Sept. 10. He went to North Carolina for an official visit this past weekend, and up next for him is an official visit to Auburn from June 3-5.

As for when the highly regarded defensive lineman might make his college decision, Jarrett said he is “still figuring it out.”

“Maybe before or after my senior season,” he added regarding his commitment timeline.

On April 21, Jarrett dropped a list of his top five schools featuring Clemson along with Auburn, Georgia, LSU and North Carolina. Texas A&M offered after he announced those top schools and is in contention as well.

Where do the Tigers stand with him at this point in his recruiting process?

“Clemson is still up there for sure,” he said. “I just want to get to know them more and have my family evaluate them as well.”

Jarrett is ranked as high as the No. 16 defensive lineman and No. 130 overall prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports, which considers him the third-best prospect in North Carolina regardless of position.

Four-star 2023 recruit sets official visit to UNC Football

This four-star UNC football recruiting target has set his official visit date to the Tar Heels for a weekend in May.

The recruitment for four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] is starting to heat up here as Summer is upon us. The Greensboro, North Carolina native is one of the top players in the state and is high on Mack Brown’s list for the 2023 class.

But he’s also high on a few other teams including Georgia who appears to be the early frontrunner in the recruitment.

The good news for UNC is that they have the chance to sway Jarrett and a make another good impression this Summer. Jarrett revealed on Tuesday that he has set an official visit date to North Carolina for May 20th-22nd:

Taking these official visits, it does suggest that Jarrett’s recruitment is likely hitting the home stretch. He has visits to Auburn (June 3) and Georgia (June 10) lined up as well and currently that’s all left on the slate.

These three appear to be battling it out for the 6-foot-6, 350-pound defensive lineman and it’s a battle that we will be watching closely over the next few weeks.

Texas A&M gains ground with 2023 DT prospect Jamaal Jarrett

Texas A&M gains ground with 2023 DT prospect Jamaal Jarrett

Just when you thought that the Aggies were out of contention for one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the 2023 class, look again! During the afternoon of Tuesday, April 26th, the 6’5″ 350-pound defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett took to social media to spread the news that Texas A&M was back in play for his recruitment, tagging the defensive line coach for the Aggies, Elijah Robinson. Texas A&M gave Jarrett an offer on April 22nd, possibly showing that it just took a couple of days for the young man to weigh his options, which now includes the maroon and white.

After announcing his top five schools, (Georgia, Clemson, LSU, North Carolina, and Auburn) less than a week ago, the consensus was that A&M might have lost its chance at signing the big man, but Tuesday’s news seems to have thrown them right back in the mix, even if it’s just on the outside looking in. according to 247Sports however, the “crystal ball” of experts give the Georiga Bulldogs a 75% chance of signing Jarrett, but as we know with recruiting, minds swiftly change when new programs enter the conversation.

With the recent recruiting success, the Aggies have sustained a stranglehold of sorts on the recruiting the top defensive linemen, with the 2022 class featuring names like Shemar Stewart (5-Star), Waler Nolan (5-Star), and Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy (4-Star), making not only the fan base excited for the future but also giving defensive line prospects like Jamaal Jarrett something to think about during the final leg of his recruiting.

Top Clemson defensive tackle target talks about his top-5 list

One of Clemson’s top defensive tackle targets in the class of 2023 dropped his final five schools this past Thursday afternoon via social media.

Grimsley’s (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Jamaal Jarrett is down to Clemson, Georgia, UNC, LSU and Auburn.

Clemson was able to get the 6-foot-5, 340-pound junior on campus last week, where he was able to earn an offer. Jarrett long maintained that he wanted an offer from Clemson, so he could include the Tigers in his top school’s list.

Here’s a summary of Jarrett’s thoughts on each school in his top five.

Clemson

“Of course, me getting the offer a couple of weeks ago. It was a great visit. I already built a good relationship with the staff towards the end of 2021. It was just a great visit. I like how they recruit. I like how Coach (Wesley) Goodwin, Coach (Dabo) Swinney, Coach (Nick) Eason recruit. Coach Eason has experience in the NFL. I feel like I would help Clemson’s defensive line (become) even better.

“It’s a new coach just hired, so you already know he’s gonna be there for the next four years, which is good to rely on because if I were to go there, I know Coach (Eason) wouldn’t leave me or anything like that. That’s what I respect. Coach Eason is a really good coach and was a really great player in the NFL as well.

“I can see myself playing on Clemson’s defensive line with Payton Page, Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy. I can see myself being in their role(s) and playing in the exact same spots. Just being coached by Coach Swinney and Coach Nick Eason is great. I can definitely put Clemson in my top list and they’re one of the top contenders in my recruitment.”

UNC

“They were my first love, my first college offer and the first school to actually see me and give me a chance. I just felt like off that, I deserved the respect and belonged in my top five. I really love the campus, I’m really cool with the recruiting staff, and always have a good time over there.

“Then, one of my former teammates — Travis Shaw — committed there. That has a big impact, especially somebody coming from my same neighborhood, making it out. That’s really helped me put UNC in my top list.

Georgia

“Georgia, my family loves them, I love them. I have a great relationship with the coaches: Coach (Kirby) Smart and (defensive line) Coach (Tray) Scott. The support and family base are there. They always show love when I’m there. I could fit in their d-line room. And I know that if I put in the work, I can start fast.”

LSU

“I like how (defensive line) Coach (Jamar) Cain, he keeps it real with me. Every time we’re on the phone, he just evaluates me, keeps it real with me and tells me what I need to work on. Then, just seeing one of the best defensive linemen on paper — Mason Smith — then, they got a pretty good offensive line over there with Will (Campbell) and Kardell Thomas. They’ve got a lot of big boys down there in Louisiana and I can see myself playing with that type of group.”

Auburn

“For Auburn, (Defesnive line) Coach (Jimmy) Brumbaugh is a great coach. He has a lot of experience in coaching. One of my bros — Enyce Sledge — just committed to Auburn. He’s a 2022 d-tackle. Me and him are really close. He was kind of like Travis Shaw. He’s been my mentor and everything. He’s going to Auburn, so that really helped me want to choose Auburn as well. I’m definitely gonna get out there for a visit. The coaching staff is cool and great, hitting me up every now and then. We talk weekly and me and Enyce talk every day.”

Three-star defensive tackle Jamaal Jarreet has Auburn in top 5

Auburn is in the running for three-star defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett.

Auburn is among the leaders for three-star defensive tackle [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag].

The Greensboro, North Carolina product has a loaded top five of Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, and North Carolina. Measuring in at 6-foot-5 and 350 pounds, Jarrett projects to play along the interior of the defensive line. Auburn extended him a scholarship offer on Feb. 16 and has clearly made an impression on him.

He is ranked as the No. 385 player and No. 51 defensive lineman in the 247Sports Composite ranking for the 2023 recruiting class.

While he has not yet visited Auburn, he spoke with Brian Dohn of 247Sports and plans to schedule more visits. He also discussed what stands out about each of his finalists. When discussing Auburn, he mentioned two people, defensive line coach [autotag]Jimmy Brumbaugh[/autotag] and freshman defensive tackle Enyce Sledge.

“Auburn made the list because of the love shown from the coaches over the phone. (Defensive line) coach (Jimmy) Brumbaugh and my bro, Enyce Sledge, a defensive tackle commit in 2022, have really impacted my interest in their program. With Enyce Sledge being my mentor as my recruiting process started back in the beginning of 2021, me and him have been really tight. He’s like a big brother to me. So him going to Auburn and the cool coaches over there helped me pick them as a secure fit in my top list.”

Jarrett played in nine games for Grimsley High School as a junior and finished with 30 tackles, 9.0 TFL, and one forced fumble. He has experience playing on the offensive line but transitioned to primarily a defensive lineman as a junior.

Big in-state DT prospect names top-5, sets UNC official

UNC football continues to be in the hunt for a top defensive tackle in the state and has made his top-5 and secured an official visit.

The UNC football program continues to be a top team on the recruiting trail under [autotag]Mack Brown[/autotag] and that continued on Thursday by being included in a top defensive tackles top list.

In-state prospect [autotag]Jamaal Jarrett[/autotag] named his top-5 which included North Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, LSU and Auburn. The Greensboro native has also set his UNC official visit for May 20.

Jarrett spoke to Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman about his top schools and had some high praise for the Tar Heels.

I just love how they were my first offer and my first school to ever give me an opportunity to further my academic and athletic career. I’ve always loved being on campus over there… Of course, Mack Brown is a legendary Hall of Fame coach and has a lot of tricks up his sleeve. UNC is going to shock the world. I really think UNC is going to do really good with Mack Brown before he leaves.

Another piece to the puzzle for the Tar Heels is having five-star defensive tackle Travis Shaw on the roster. Both from the same high school, that connection could help North Carolina in the long run.

Jarrett, did however, name Georgia as the top team in his recruitment at the moment. With a big visit coming up with the Tar Heels things could change.

Jarrett is ranked as the No. 19 defensive tackle in the country.
