Why Taco Bell isn’t giving away free tacos for stolen bases in the 2024 World Series

Fans have beef with MLB and Taco Bell.

Remember last year during the World Series when Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte stole a base off Nate Eovaldi in the top of the third inning in Game 1, and how that won everyone a free taco from Taco Bell? It was great moment in American history. An act in a baseball game, winning everyone a free taco. Who doesn’t love that? Even if you weren’t watching baseball, this was a promotion you could support and feast from.

But the promotion is no more. Bases will be stolen in the series between the Yankees and Dodgers, but free tacos will not be awarded.

And fans are not happy.

You might even say they have a beef with Major League Baseball and Taco Bell.

The reason that the promotion is no more is because the popular fast-food joint and MLB broke up.

The Sports Business Journal explained back in April:

“Gone from MLB’s sponsor roster this year is Taco Bell, who has run the “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promo during the World Series for years. Taco Bell had been with the league since 2004 (the brand only had postseason QSR rights).”

There’s the explanation. But it didn’t make fans feel any better about not getting free tacos.

Make this right, Taco Bell and MLB.

How to get $1 Taco Bell deals on National Taco Day 2024 on October 1, 2024

Go get some cheap Taco Bell on Taco Tuesday!

OK this is a little confusing, so bear with me: National Taco Day 2024 is supposed to happen on Friday.

But it’s ALSO on Tuesday after Taco Bell and the National Day Calendar got National Taco Day to be on a Taco Tuesday.

So! It’s October 1, 2024. It’s Taco Tuesday. And Taco Bell is offering up $1 deals all day for rewards members. On every hour, you can get a different kind of $1 taco, and there are 10,000 tacos of that ilk sold every hour, from Crunchy tacos to Chalupa Supremes to Cheesy Gordita Crunch tacos. Got it? This all starts at 1 p.m. ET and runs until 10 p.m.

Enjoy!

Here’s how to get free Taco Bell thanks to the Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte

Here’s how to get a free Taco Bell taco in the next 10 days thanks to the World Series.

It happened, as we knew it would: Taco Bell’s “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” promotion kicked in early in the 2023 World Series when Ketel Marte swiped a bag in Game 1 of the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks matchup on Friday night.

In past years, there was one designated day on which taco lovers could redeem the free food. Not this time!

If you’re a Taco Bell Rewards Program account holder, congrats! You have 10 days from the steal (it was on Friday, October 27) to grab a free Doritos Locos taco through the app.

That’s it! Go get a free taco in the next 10 days.

PSA: Taco Bell’s World Series stolen base promotion will win America free tacos again

Go predict who will steal the first base in the World Series and get a free drink in addition to a free taco if you guess right.

It’s America’s favorite taco-related promotion, and it’s back.

That’s right, Taco Bell’s “Steal a Base, Steal a Taco” returns for the 2023 World Series, meaning one player on the Texas Rangers or Arizona Diamondbacks is going to swipe a bag and win a free taco from the fast food chain.

The twist: You need to be registered for their rewards program on the app (you can do that up to 10 days after the stolen base), and once that happens, you can get a free Doritos Locos Taco after the steal. The other catch? The offer to get one expires 10 days after that stolen base.

One more interesting note: You can win a free medium drink by predicting who gets that first stolen base (my vote is for Corbin Carroll), but YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR GUESS BY THE END OF THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26.

Got it? Good.

2023 Nikola Jokic All-Taco Bell Team: 9 players selected during NBA Draft commercials

9 players were selected during a commercial break in the 2023 NBA Draft. Is the next Jokic among them?

June 26, 2014 was a monumental day for fans of both the NBA and Taco Bell.

Not only was Nikola Jokic — a now two-time MVP, NBA champion and NBA Finals MVP — drafted by the Denver Nuggets, but the Quesarito appeared on the menu at Taco Bells everywhere. And in one of the most magical moments in fast food/basketball history, the two icons overlapped with the league announcing Jokic’s selection during a commercial for the quesadilla-burrito hybrid and linked them forever.

On Thursday night, ESPN made a notably concerted effort to ensure every draft pick was highlighted, even if they were announced while the broadcast was at break. But there were still a number of second-rounders who saw their name called during a commercial.

Perhaps the next Jokic — or Quesarito — is among them. There’s certainly the potential for a sponsorship deal if any of these players become All-Stars. So to memorialize the biggest night of their lives, we humbly present the 2023 Nikola Jokic All-Taco Bell Team.

Congratulations to these nine players drafted while ESPN cut to commercial.

Reminder: Nikola Jokic was drafted during a Taco Bell commercial. Now he’s won the NBA Finals

Jokic has come a long way since his unceremonious NBA entry.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published in May 2023 and has been updated.

Nine years ago, one of the greatest players to ever step foot on a basketball court was officially drafted into the NBA. And like hundreds of players before him, that moment was captured on national television.

It was June 26, 2014, and future MVP Nikola Jokic was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the 41st pick of the draft – one of the biggest steals in NBA draft history.

So, how was that momentous occasion memorialized in the annals of ESPN telecasts? With an unappetizing Taco Bell commercial for the fast-food chain’s most-recent food Frankenstein, a quesadilla-burrito called, get this, the quesarito.

Not quite as creative as Jokic’s game turned out to be.

The quesarito did turn out to be a big success, though. It stuck around all this time until finally being removed from Taco Bell’s menu last month. And so was Jokic, who just added a Western Conference finals MVP trophy to a mantle that already includes two league MVPs

Forever connected, maybe the end of the quesarito was a sign that we needed to pay the Nuggets big man more attention. While we were all expecting long playoff runs from teams like the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks, Denver was the best team all along.

After sweeping the Lakers, Jokic and the Nuggets are now just four wins from being crowned champions.

NBA Draft 2022: Check out Johnny Davis’ Taco Bell ad that has the internet going crazy

Johnny Davis got to the bag early with this Taco Bell ad

A lot of people are going to learn Johnny Davis’ name for the first time on draft night.

The future lottery pick is a former guard at Wisconsin where he was legitimately one of the best players in the country. He averaged 19.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game as a guard in the 2021-22 season on his way to becoming the Big Ten player of the year.

His resume is super impressive and it’ll probably have him picked somewhere in the top 10 by a team looking for a defensive stalwart at guard. We’ve got him going to the Washington Wizards.

Although it might be your first time hearing his name, it’s probably not the first time you’ve seen him.

Because you almost definitely have seen this Taco Bell ad somewhere that he’s an absolute star in.

Davis’ toasted cheddar chalupa ad has been running since May. His Taco Bell sponsorship has probably brought him a pretty penny.

Getting to the bag is an NBA skill. It’s nice to see Davis has got that down already.

Twitter reacts to Johnny Davis’ nationwide Taco Bell commercial

Some of Twitter’s best reactions to former Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis’ first nationwide commercial for Taco Bell:

As many Wisconsin basketball fans have probably seen over the last few days, former Wisconsin guard and NBA draft prospect, Johnny Davis, debuted in his first national television commercial for Taco Bell.

In the commercial, the former Badgers’ star is selected in the draft but decides to head to Taco Bell instead after hearing the brand’s iconic bell ring on stage. This was not Davis’ first major ad campaign, as he and his brother Jordan partnered with Pepsi in promotions around the Madison, Wis., area.

Below are some of Twitter’s best reactions to Johnny Davis’ first nationwide commercial for Taco Bell:

Here’s how to get Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza before its official release

The only thing better than Mexican Pizza is early Mexican Pizza.

The Mexican Pizza is coming back to Taco Bell, and fans of the offering at the chain are SO excited for it.

(An aside: I’m more excited about the Dolly Parton Mexican Pizza musical that’s coming out, but that’s for another post!).

It’s supposed to drop on menus later this week, but Taco Bell is making it available early, starting Tuesday: Per the chain’s official site, you can redeem one through the app if you’re a registered user as a Rewards Member.

For those who don’t know: Their Mexican Pizza is on tortillas, with beans, pizza sauce, beef, tomatoes and lots of cheese.

Go get it!

Here’s how to get free Taco Bell on Thursday thanks to the Braves’ Ozzie Albies

FREE TACO BELL!

Ozzie Albies didn’t win World Series MVP for the Atlanta Braves — that would be Jorge Soler.

But he won another very important award: The latest athlete to get America free Taco Bell.

That’s right, with his stolen base in Game 1 against the Houston Astros, Albies fulfilled the Steal a Base, Steal a Taco promotion, and on Thursday, November 4, you can actually get a free taco from the fast food chain.

But how do you do it? What are the restrictions? What kind of taco is it? That’s OK, we’ve got you covered to help you in your free taco needs:

When can I get my free taco?

On Thursday, November 4, all day, you can get one free taco in-store or on the app, but not via delivery.

Is it a Doritos Locos taco yet again?

It is indeed!

Any caveats?

It’s while supplies last, so keep that in mind.
