Broncos will have a ‘No Fly Zone’ reunion on Sunday

The Broncos will recognize their “No Fly Zone” secondary before the Falcons game on Sunday.

Before Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, the Denver Broncos will recognize several members of “The No-Fly Zone” defense as part of the pregame festivities.

Former Broncos Aqib Talib, Chris Harris, T.J. Ward, Darian Stewart, Bradley Roby and David Bruton will be present for the Week 11 tilt at Empower Field at Mile High.

According to the team’s official website, the former teammates will participate in the flag plant prior to kickoff, and be a part of the Salute to Service halftime relay race.

Game recognizes game, and current Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain was asked about the “No Fly Zone” on Wednesday.

“I watched them a lot growing up,” Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain said this week. “I always remember it was them and the ‘Legion of Boom.’ Those two secondaries were… They just kept on producing big-time numbers. I still communicate [with them]. I just saw Chris Harris for the first time when they came here to honor his name. I’ve talked with Talib a few times too. So it’s going to be pretty awesome to see them come back. I can’t wait to meet all of them. It’s going to be a great experience for sure.”

The No Fly Zone boasts a combined 10 Pro Bowl appearances and they were key members of the 2025 defense that led the team to a victory in Super Bowl 50.

Earlier this season, Harris signed a ceremonial contract with the Broncos to retire with the team which gave him his first NFL opportunity.

37-year-old T.J. Ward (jokingly?) says he could help Cowboys on defense

Former NFL safety T.J. Ward, 37, informed the Cowboys that he can still tackle, and he told the team to call him.

The Dallas Cowboys were absolutely embarrassed by the Detroit Lions in a 47-9 loss at AT&T Stadium on Sunday.

Former NFL safety T.J. Ward apparently watched the game and he (jokingly?) suggested on Twitter/X that he could help the Cowboys.

“Ay @dallascowboys I can still tackle. Hit my phone,” Ward tweeted.

Ward is 37 years old (he’ll turn 38 in December) and he last spent time in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals in 2020. He retired from the NFL in 2021.

Ward played for the Cleveland Browns, Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cards during his eight-year career in the NFL. He clearly was not impressed with Dallas’ performance against Detroit:

Ward was a key member of the Broncos’ famous “No Fly Zone” secondary that helped the team win Super Bowl 50 following the 2015 season. A two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro, Ward totaled 607 tackles, 44 pass breakups, 10 forced fumbles, 8.5 sacks and eight interceptions in his career. We’ll see if the Cowboys give him a call.

T.J. Ward and Chris Harris don’t like the Pro Bowl’s new format

T.J. Ward tweeted that the Pro Bowl has been ruined, and Chris Harris tweeted that it’s a joke now. Do you agree?

The Pro Bowl used to be an all-star game featuring the NFL’s best players competing in a fun environment in Hawaii. Over time, the “tackle” football game morphed into a wrap-up game as players (understandably) wanted to avoid injuries in a meaningless Pro Bowl.

With little to no tackling happening in recent “tackle” editions of the Pro Bowl, the NFL decided to switch to a flag football format in 2023.

The new flag game has been met with mixed reviews. Some fans and pundits would rather see players pulling a flag than “tackling” by gently putting their arms around an opponent. Others think the Pro Bowl has regressed even further.

“They really ruined the pro bowl,” former Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward tweeted on Sunday. “We use to actually see the best on best compete. What a treat that was. SMH.”

Former cornerback Chris Harris agreed with Ward’s assessment.

Ward made three Pro Bowls during his career. Harris made four. They were key members of Denver’s famous “No Fly Zone” secondary that helped the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 in 2015.

Ward and Harris are not alone in their disapproval of the Pro Bowl.

Former Browns safety T.J. Ward announces his retirement

Ward was the Browns 2nd round pick in 2010 and made a Pro Bowl in his last year in Cleveland

Former Cleveland Browns safety T.J. Ward has announced his retirement from the NFL after 11 seasons.

Ward began his career as the second-round pick by the Browns in the 2010 NFL draft. He jumped right from Oregon into Cleveland’s starting lineup and led the team with 123 tackles.

Ward made the Pro Bowl in his final season in Cleveland in 2013. He started every game for which he was healthy in his four years with the Browns. Ward signed with the Denver Broncos as a free agent and made another Pro Bowl in 2014.

Injuries caught up with Ward, unfortunately. He has not played in a regular season game since 2017 with the Buccaneers.

Thanks for the memories and good luck in retirement, T.J.!

Cardinals add veteran safety T.J. Ward to practice squad

Ward is a two-time Pro Bowler and last played in 2017. He is 33 years old.

The Arizona Cardinals addressed the injury situation at safety with a practice squad signing on Thursday. The team announced the addition of former Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward to the practice squad. Ward had a workout earlier in the week.

Ward last played in 2017 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a Pro Bowler in 2013-2014.

He has played in 107 games and started 99 with the Buccaneers, Broncos and Browns in his NFL career. An eight-year veteran, Ward has 607 tackles (458 solo), eight interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 8.5 sacks and 44 pass breakups.

Because of new rules this season, teams can elevate two practice squad players at the end of the week, giving the team 55 players with which to build their 48-man game day roster.

With Budda Baker recovering from thumb surgery, Jalen Thompson on injured reserve and Chris Banjo dealing with a hamstring injury, Ward will likely be elevated on the weekend and could see some playing time.

To make room for him on the practice squad, the Cardinals cut offensive lineman Rick Leonard.

Cardinals bring in former Pro Bowl S T.J. Ward for workout

Ward last played in 2017 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Arizona Cardinals know they are going to be shorthanded at safety this week. Jalen Thompson is on injured reserve and will be out at least one more week. Budda Baker will be out at least this week after he has surgery to repair torn ligaments in his thumb.

Backup Chris Banjo, who has been starting Thompson’s place, has a hamstring injury and his availability for this week is uncertain.

So they are looking for help outside the organization.

They brought in a former Pro Bowler, according to NFL transaction wire on Monday — veteran safety T.J. Ward.

Ward played for the Denver Broncos from 2014-2016. Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph coached there but in 2017-2018, so the two did not cross paths.

Ward last played in 2017 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a Pro Bowler in 2013-2014.

Ward is now 33 years old. If the Cardinals sign him, he could actually start. As of right now, the starters for this weekend against the Carolina Panthers are likely going to be Deionte Thompson and Curtis Riley.
