Demaryius Thomas, Aqib Talib eligible for Hall of Fame next year

Broncos Super Bowl 50 champions Demaryius Thomas and Aqib Talib will be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2025.

The 2024 Pro Football Fame class was announced last week, and attention has now turned to which players will be eligible in 2025.

The list of former players with first-year eligibility in 2025 includes late Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and retired cornerback Aqib Talib.

Thomas ranks second in franchise history with 9,055 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns. A four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Thomas set a then-record with 13 receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl XLVIII. Two years later, he won Super Bowl 50. Thomas died at age 33 in 2021.

Talib, 37, totaled 35 interceptions during his 12-year career, including 11 interceptions in four seasons with the Broncos. Talib returned 10 interceptions for touchdowns, the fourth-highest total in NFL history. Six of those pick-sixes happened during his tenure in Denver. A five-time Pro Bowler, Talib also won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos.

Other first-year eligible candidates next year will include quarterback Eli Manning, linebacker Luke Kuechly, pass rusher Terrell Suggs, running back Marshawn Lynch and kicker Adam Vinatieri. The list of eligible players still waiting to get in includes tight end Antonio Gates, pass rusher Jared Allen and receivers Torry Holt, Reggie Wayne, Steve Smith and Hines Ward.

Broncos legendary linebacker Randy Gradishar will be enshrined as a member of the 2024 class this summer and former coach Mike Shanahan should be a top candidate to get in as coach/contributor next year. Thirteen players who spent multiple seasons in Denver have reached the Hall of Fame. Thomas and Talib will hope to join them in 2025.

Prosecutors say Yaqub Talib has agreed to a plea in the murder case he faced

What started out as a youth football game in 2022 and turned into a shooting death has led to Yaqub Salik Talib, brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib entering a guilty plea to a murder charge.

Yaqub Talib pleaded guilty to the shooting of Michael Hickmon in Texas last year. He agreed to a sentence of 37 years in prison and will be formally sentenced in August, a spokesperson for the Dallas County DA’s office told ESPN.

The sons of both Talib brothers played on one of the teams and Hickmon’s son played on the other in the youth football game.

Aqib Talib was a five-time Pro Bowl DB.

The next player in our 27 Days, 27 Picks series became an two-time All-Pro corner — but not in Tampa Bay.

In 27 Days, 27 Picks, Bucs Wire will analyze the last 27 Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round draft picks, one for each day leading up to the 2023 NFL draft. We’ll take a look at the player’s college stats, their pre-draft numbers (either via the NFL Combine or their Pro Day), their NFL stats, some player footage and analysis at the end on whether the pick itself was a good one.

Our next player in this series was productive for the Bucs, but a slew of off-the-field issues culminated in his trade to the New England Patriots in 2012. He’d become an All-Pro player later in his career, but he never reached that potential with Tampa Bay.

Aqib Talib steps aside from Amazon’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ coverage

Aqib Talib won’t be part of Amazon’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ coverage this season.

Aqib Talib won’t be part of Amazon’s Thursday Night Football coverage this season, the former cornerback told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Talib is stepping aside from his role on TNF after his brother, Yaqub, was charged with felony first-degree murder after a man was killed at a youth football game in Dallas on Aug. 13. Yaqub turned himself in last week.

Aqib and Yaqub are both coaches for the North Dallas United Bobcats. The shooting happened after arguments about a call during a game between the Bobcats and D.E.A. Dragons. The argument turned physical and then one of the Dragons’ coaches, 43-year-old Michael Hickmon, was shot multiple times and later died. Yaqub allegedly shot Hickmon.

Aqib has not faced any charges. He told Rapoport that he’s is stepping “aside from his broadcasting duties at Amazon to spend time with his family.” Talib had previously signed on with Amazon earlier this year to contribute to pre-game, halftime and post-game coverage of TNF in 2023.

Talib had a 12-year career in the NFL and he won Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos following the 2015 season.

Aqib Talib stepping away from broadcasting job with Amazon following brother’s arrest

Aqib Talib is stepping away from his broadcasting job with Amazon after his brother was arrested and charged with murder

Former Los Angeles Rams cornerback Aqib Talib was hired by Amazon this offseason, joining their Thursday Night Football broadcast team as a studio analyst. However, with the season approaching, Talib is stepping away from that role.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Talib is stepping aside from his broadcasting duties after his brother, Yusuf Talib, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder stemming from a shooting at a youth football game. Yusuf allegedly shot and killed a coach after a brawl broke out at Lancaster Community Park in Lancaster, Texas. The incident occurred on Aug. 13.

Yusuf turned himself into police “so his side of the story could be told,” according to WFAA. Both Yusuf and Aqib are coaches of the North Dallas United Bobcats team. Aqib was at the game when the shooting occurred and his lawyer issued the following statement to WFAA.

“Aqib Talib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss of life. He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.”

Aqib Talib played two seasons with the Rams in 2018 and 2019. He spent 12 years in the NFL from 2008 to 2019, making stops with the Buccaneers, Patriots and Broncos.

Aqib Talib’s brother suspect in fatal shooting of Texas youth football coach

The brother of former NFL DB Aqib Talib is the suspect in a murder of a Texas youth football coach

The brother of former NFL DB and Amazon studio analyst Aqib Talib is wanted for the murder of a Texas youth football coach.

Yaqub Talib is wanted by Lancaster (Tx) police after a fight at a game  Saturday led to gunshots and the death of 43-year-old Michael Hickmon, 43.

Lancaster city spokesperson Scott Finley said authorities believe Yaqub Talib was the suspected shooter.

The Dallas Morning News reported an argument took place and nearby a fight broke out. That was followed by the sound of several gunshots.

Police said responding officers were told of a “disagreement among the coaching staff and the officiating crew,” according to a news release.

Aqib Talib’s attorney provided a statement to TMZ:

“Aqib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss of life. He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.”

The Topeka Capital-Journal ran a profile of Aqib Talib and it detailed his relationship with his older brother Yaqub.

“The only person that ever messed with Aqib while I was here was his brother,” Jim Ledford, the high school football coach of Aqib Talib said in 2007. “Aqib went and spouted off something to Yaqub one day, next thing I know Aqib comes back and his eye’s dotted and he’s cut up, and we’re all making fun of him then. That mouth overloaded that rear end.”

Aqib Talib credited his brother for keeping him out of trouble. He was a player on the Super Bowl 50 champion Denver Broncos.

“My parents, they worked a lot and stuff, so my big brother was always kinda the one at the house, telling me what to do,” Aqib Talib said. “He kept me out of a lot of trouble and kept my head on straight.”

Aqib Talib played for five NFL teams from 2008-2019.

Anyone with information on Yaqub Talib’s whereabouts should call Detective Senad Deranjic at 972-218-2756.
