Stock up, Stock down from Colts’ 34-17 win over Titans

Stock report for Week 10.

The Indianapolis Colts (6-3) came away with a big 34-17 win over the Tennessee Titans (6-3) on Thursday night at Nissan Stadium.

It was one of those games that can be categorized as a complete team win. All three phases of the team made big plays. From the passing game to the special teams unit coming through, the Colts enjoyed a well-rounded win.

The stock report remains fluid. Some players are riding a trend that has been taking place for weeks while other could reverse their stock the following the game.

Here’s the stock report for the Colts in Week 10:

Studs and duds from Colts’ 34-17 win over Titans

Studs and duds from the Week 10 win.

The Indianapolis Colts (6-3) went south to Nissan Stadium and made a statement with a 34-17 win over the Tennessee Titans (6-3) on Thursday night.

In their only prime time game of the season (so far), there wasn’t much to complain about on the Colts’ sideline. The offense was clicking for the most part, and the defense continues to prove it is an elite unit in the league.

Here are the studs and duds from the Week 10 win:

Watch: Indianapolis Colts block punt, return it for touchdown

The Colts took advantage of poor punting by the Titans to score two touchdowns in less than a minute.

Troy Aikman said it best Thursday, “Somewhere Pat McAfee is cringing.

That’s because the third punter this season for the TenneseeTitans, Trevor Daniel, had a nightmare third quarter against McAfee’s former team, the Indianapolis Colts.

First, the former FedEx driver Daniel shanked a punt that went 17 yards and turned into a Colts’ TD drive.

On the Titans’ next possession, Indianapolis stormed through the Titans’ line, E.J. Speed blocked the Daniel punt and T.J. Carrie ran it a yard into the end zone for a 27-17 lead after the PAT.

The two scores happened within a span of 54 seconds.

Colts’ final injury report vs. Bears in Week 4

Final injury report for the Colts in Week 4.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-1) released their final injury report on Friday ahead of their Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears (3-0) at Soldier Field.

Relatively speaking, the Colts are pretty healthy. We already knew that rookie wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and veteran cornerback T.J. Carrie were ruled out, and that seems to be the extent of the injury report for the Colts this week.

Here’s a look at the final injury report for Indy in Week 4:

*DNP = Did Not Participate | LP = Limited Participant | FP = Full Participant*

Name Position Injury Wed. (9/30) Thurs. (10/1) Fri. (10/2) Game Status
Michael Pittman Jr. WR Calf DNP DNP DNP OUT
Nyheim Hines RB Shoulder LP FP FP
Rock Ya-Sin CB Illness LP FP FP
T.J. Carrie CB Hamstring LP DNP OUT
Anthony Castonzo OT Rest DNP
T.Y. Hilton WR Rest DNP
Justin Houston DE Rest DNP
Denico Autry DE Rest DNP

With Pittman Jr. and Carrie out, the Colts only have two players ruled out for the game. Pittman Jr. is expected to miss a few weeks while it isn’t clear how long Carrie will be dealing with the hamstring injury that popped up on Thursday.

It also isn’t clear whether the Colts will see the return of tight end Trey Burton (calf) and defensive tackle Sheldon Day (knee), both of which are currently on the injured reserve list but eligible to return. Day practiced all three days while Burton practiced every day but Friday.

Aside from a few players on the injured reserve list, the Colts are entering this matchup relatively healthy and ready to go.

Colts vs. Bears: Who has the edge in Week 4?

Colts rule out CB T.J. Carrie vs. Bears

Colts rule out Carrie and Pittman against the Bears.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback T.J. Carrie and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. have been ruled out for the Week 4 matchup against the Chicago Bears, head coach Frank Reich told reporters on Friday.

Neither of these really comes as a shock. The rookie receiver in Pittman Jr. is expected to miss a few weeks due to compartment leg syndrome while Carrie popped up on the injury report on Thursday with a hamstring injury and didn’t practice on Friday.

Reich also said that second-year cornerback Rock Ya-Sin is ready to go after practicing in full on Thursday and Friday. The physical defender has been inactive for the last two games after having a medical procedure done.

As for tight end Trey Burton and defensive tackle Sheldon Day, it isn’t clear whether they will be called up from the injured reserve list but both did manage to practice a good amount this week.

The Colts will release their injury report with designations later on Friday.

Colts injury report: RB Nyheim Hines a full participant

A look at the injury report on Thursday.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-1) released their injury report for Thursday’s practice as they prepare for the Week 4 matchup with the Chicago Bears (3-0) at Soldier Field.

The injury report doesn’t look too bad for the Colts all things considered. After being a limited participant on Wednesday due to a shoulder injury, running back Nyheim Hines returned to a full status on Thursday.

It also seems that cornerback Rock Ya-Sin will be making his return to game action for the first time since Week 1 after dealing with an illness.

Here’s a look at the injury report for the Colts on Thursday:

*DNP = Did Not Participate | LP = Limited Participant | FP = Full Participant*

Name Position Injury Wed. (9/30) Thurs. (10/1)
Michael Pittman Jr. WR Calf DNP DNP
Nyheim Hines RB Shoulder LP FP
Rock Ya-Sin CB Illness LP FP
T.J. Carrie CB Hamstring LP

The rookie wide receiver in Pittman Jr. shouldn’t be expected to practice or play for at least a few weeks after he suffered compartment leg syndrome. He may not return until after the Week 7 bye.

Carrie will be one to monitor for Friday after seemingly suffering a hamstring injury and was a limited participant on Thursday.

The Colts have one more practice ahead of the Week 4 matchup with the injury designations being released on Friday.

Xavier Rhodes is Colts’ player of the game vs. Jets in Week 3

Rhodes were closed in Week 3.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-1) pulled off a dominant performance against the New York Jets (0-3) in which the defense shined all afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The 36-7 win would not have been possible without an amazing performance from cornerback Xavier Rhodes and the rest of the Colts secondary.

Rhodes finished the day with not one, but two interceptions. His biggest play was in the first quarter when he picked off Sam Darnold and took it to the house for a 44 yard score.

He was all over the field on Sunday and matched up well with tight ends that were split out wide due to the Jets’ injuries at receiver. With Rock Ya-Sin inactive due to an illness, Rhodes and fellow corner T.J Carrie have picked up the slack in a big way. Carrie also had a pick-six in the fourth quarter.

The Colts travel to Chicago next week to face a 3-0 Bears team that is struggling at the quarterback position. If the defense can put up 16 points on their own like they did against the Jets, the Colts can go toe to toe with anyone in the league.

Jets QB Sam Darnold throws two pick-sixes, fails to make franchise history

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold did not follow Adam Gase’s order to throw the offense into “hyperdrive.”

Earlier this week, Jets head coach and “offensive play designer” Adam Gase said with his usual overconfidence that he’s got to put everything into “hyperdrive.”

So far against the Colts, the Jets’ offense has indeed sped up, but not in the way Gase would have liked. Quarterback Sam Darnold, who has been under nearly constant pressure this season and has been unable to make the plays he’s able to make, threw the following two pick-sixes to give the Colts a distinct advantage: The first by Xavier Rhodes, and the second by T.J. Carrie.

Darnold has in fact thrown two interceptions to Rhodes in this game, and here, I explain why that’s particularly embarrassing:

So, there’s that. Not exactly what this team needed to pull it out of an 0-2 start as perhaps the worst team in football.

However, there is hope! No, really! First of all, Darnold still doesn’t hold the Jets record for the most pick-sixes in a single game. That mark is still held by Joe Namath, who threw three against the Bills on September 29, 1968 in a 37-35 loss.

If you’re anything of a football historian, you may remember that the Jets won Super Bowl III at the end of the 1968 American Football League season, in a 16-7 upset over the Baltimore Colts.

We’re going to eke out just a little more hope out of this, since the 2020 Jets clearly have none at all. There are four instances in professional football history in which a quarterback has thrown three pick-sixes in a single game. Namath in 1968, John Hadl of the Chargers against the Houston Oilers in 1971, Ed Baker of the Oilers against the Bengals in 1972, and Eli Manning of the Giants against the Vikings on November 25, 2007.

You may also remember that at the end of the 2007 season, the Giants beat the Patriots, who were undefeated coming into Super Bowl XLII, in what was probably the biggest upset in football at any level between Super Bowl III and that game. So, in two of the four instances in which a quarterback gave three touchdowns to the opposing defense, their teams went on to win the Super Bowl that season.

I realize that I’ve gone on a tangent here, but hey — let’s give these poor Jets fans a little hope. Or something.

4 Colts in danger of losing their jobs

These Colts have to be careful of losing their jobs.

The Indianapolis Colts are boasting more depth on paper than they have in recent memory. While most of the draft picks selected in April will have to fight and claw for roles, there are still several position battles to keep an eye on entering the 2020 season.

[lawrence-related id=44379]

For the most part, the Colts have most of the roles locked down. There will be competition throughout the roster, but some players are truly in danger of losing their jobs at their respective positions.

Whether it’s because of an incoming rookie or simply a tight position battle, here are four Colts in danger of losing their jobs in 2020:

RB Marlon Mack

You already knew Mack would be on this list. Though he showed the Colts he could be an effective runner by running for a career-high 1,091 yards in 2019, the front office wanted to get more explosive. What better way to do so than to trade up for one of the most productive backs in college football history.

Mack will be joined by rookie Jonathan Taylor—a 5-foot-10, 226-pound back with 4.39 speed and the fourth-most rushing yards in college football history. It will be a shared backfield featuring the duo as a 1-2 punch, but there is a real chance Taylor takes over the lead role at some point in 2020.

That doesn’t mean the entire backfield will be his. Mack will certainly get his share of work, especially considering he’s in a contract year. What better reason to run Mack into the ground?

But even with that, Mack isn’t going to average the 17 carries per game he enjoyed over the last two seasons. He will absolutely be involved, but don’t be surprised if Taylor winds up being the leader of the 1-2 punch by season’s end.

T.J. Carrie shows love and respect for the Browns fans

Carrie signed with the Colts after two seasons in Cleveland

You can take T.J. Carrie out of the Dawg Pound, but you can’t take the Dawg Pound out of T.J. Carrie. The former Browns defensive back shared a heartfelt thanks and love to the fans in Cleveland for his two years with the team on Thursday.

Carrie is now a member of the Indianapolis Colts, agreeing to terms with the Colts a few days after the Browns released him to shave several million dollars off the salary cap balance sheet. The Ohio University product doesn’t hold it against the Browns or the loyal fans who quickly embraced him when Carrie joined the team back in 2018.

Carrie has always been a class act and is one of those ex-Browns that fans should still root for…except when they play against Cleveland, of course.
