Rookies reporting to training camp on Tuesday signifies how close we are to the 2023 NFL season, and the Kansas City Chiefs defending their Super Bowl.

Despite winning a Super Bowl last season, Patrick Mahomes understands that this year is a clean slate. They can’t hang their hat on their Super Bowl LVII win against the Philadelphia Eagles. Players, both new and old, will need to be focused if they want to go back-to-back.

“Yeah I mean there hasn’t been a team to go back-to-back since the Patriots in I think ’03-’04. So, everybody’s motivated by that,” Mahomes told reporters on Tuesday. “You should be motivated every year in the league it shouldn’t matter what last year was, you should be motivated to do it again. When you have that parade, when you go through the offseason that I’ve been through you want to do it again. You only get those opportunities by winning the Super Bowl. So for us, we want to make sure that we can build up and try to win that Super Bowl again because that moment, that feeling is something you just want to grab every single time you get the opportunity to.”

After winning Super Bowl LIV in 2019, the Chiefs still had great success. They followed up their “Run It Back” theme with a return to the big game in Super Bowl LV. They fell short of their goal in that game and Mahomes wants to be more buttoned-up this time around when it comes to defending last year’s Super Bowl title.

“I don’t think we laid off the little things, but just having that consistent effort every single week,” Mahomes explained. “Look at us last time after we won the first Super Bowl, we really were like 14-1 we sat the last game went to the playoffs and ended up losing in the Super Bowl. You get in that mode especially when you’re winning a lot of games where you – I don’t want to say coast – but you kind of [think] ‘this is what we do, let’s just go out, practice this way, and then win a game.’ Whereas this time I think I’m going to try to really push and motivate guys to try to continue to try and get better. Even though we’re winning football games let’s not be satisfied with just winning, let’s be satisfied with finding ways to get better every single week. And so, whenever you get to that opportunity you don’t let it squander, you really take advantage of it. It’s hard.”

Winning in the NFL is difficult, to say the least. Mahomes understands that this year especially will be a tall task, as the AFC is loaded with talent in every division.

“I think it’s going to be the hardest it’s ever been,” Mahomes continued. “I’ve said it a lot, you look at the AFC, almost every team you can see a path for them getting to the playoffs. And I know you say that every year, but I think this year it’s really real. We know week in and week out it’s going to be a challenge for us, let’s get better and try to win as many football games as possible and put ourselves in that position.”

Every team starts with the same record when the season kicks off in September and they’re all building toward the same goal. The 27-year-old quarterback is focused on improving and ensuring that this team is even better than the one they fielded a season ago.

“I think the theme this year is how can we keep building,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, we won the Super Bowl last year and it was amazing, but we still have a lot of young guys. We want to continue to get better and better. You look around the AFC, everyone’s gotten better. So, you want to continue to build and build and not be satisfied with what we did last year and see if we can take that next step.”

Former Texans QB David Carr picks Dallas Cowboys fans as most deserving of Super Bowl LVIII win

Former Houston Texans quarterback David Carr, the first pick in team history, says Dallas Cowboys fans are most deserving of a Super Bowl win.

The rivalry between Dallas and Houston runs deep

Even though the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys don’t play each other for four years — similar to the Olympics — Clutch City sports fans enjoy seeing their NFL team stick it to the team at the northern terminus of Interstate 45.

The only thing least odious to fans in Houston than the Tennessee Titans parading around in Houston Oilers jerseys would be having the Cowboys win a Super Bowl.

According to NFL Media’s David Carr, who was the Texans’ No. 1 overall pick in 2002, the Cowboys fan base is the most deserving of a Super Bowl win at the end of the 2023 campaign.

High expectations hover over the Cowboys annually, and no one in that franchise or fan base is shy about the desire to earn a sixth Lombardi Trophy — especially owner Jerry Jones. Lately, Dallas has had the firepower to give itself a chance at its first title in nearly three decades, but major blunders have abruptly ended those aspirations. The constant emotional roller coaster is almost too much to take.

Independent of the Cowboys, it was such a strange take to go with a team that already has five Super Bowls. Carr’s colleagues went with the Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars — all of whom have a collective one title between them, the last of which was Super Bowl III, twice as long as the Cowboys’ current title drought.

Aside from earning a city’s respect for taking 249 sacks over his first four seasons, and leading the league three times, Carr endeared himself immediately with a 19-10 win over the Cowboys on Sept. 8, 2002, at then-Reliant Stadium. The reintroduction of the NFL in Space City came with giving the Cowboys a black eye.

Texans fans may not have expected Carr to pick Houston as most deserving to win a Super Bowl this season, but they would have expected him to pick anybody other than the Cowboys.

4 reasons why DeAndre Hopkins would make Patriots Super Bowl contenders

DeAndre Hopkins landing in New England would drastically change things for the better.

The New England Patriots went from not spending a premium draft pick on a receiver in April to potentially being a contract offer away from landing five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins.

Granted, they aren’t the only team eyeing Hopkins, who is still arguably the best receiver in the NFL. There are multiple teams that would love to have a game-changing offensive weapon that could tilt the balance of power in their favor.

FOX Sports’ Henry McKenna reported the Patriots are expected to be one of the interested teams in pursuing Hopkins after he was released by the Arizona Cardinals. So the sweepstakes will now come down to a straight up contract offer without the need to trade assets.

It should be a robust market for Hopkins’ services, and there are still questions surrounding his personal feelings in relation to Patriots newly-hired offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. But if things come together, this would be a move that would finally puts the Patriots back on top.

Here are four reasons why Hopkins could help turn New England into Super Bowl contenders:

Locations for next three Super Bowls officially revealed

We now know the host locations for each of the next three Super Bowls.

The Kansas City Chiefs have been to three of the past four Super Bowls, winning the NFL’s most iconic game twice in that span.

The league already had announced the host cities and stadiums for the next two Super Bowls, but they extended that to a third on Monday. It’s very possible that the Chiefs could be visiting one, two, or all of these cities should things go their way in each of the next three seasons.

Here’s a quick look at the locations and dates for Super Bowl LVIII, Super Bowl LIX and Super Bowl LX:

Road to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas begins now

Super Bowl LVII is done. Next stop: Vegas, baby!

Super Bowl LVII is behind us. The decorations are being taken down in Phoenix and everyone is headed home for the offseason.

The Chiefs are the reigning champions until someone dethrones them. And the next chance to dethrone them will take place in Las Vegas a year from now.

All sights are now set on Allegiant Stadium for Super Bowl LVIII.

Allegiant Stadium and SoFi are the NFL’s two newest stadiums. SoFi hosted Super Bowl LVI last year. Next year it’s Allegiant’s turn.

Sin City has hosted the NFL Draft and the Pro Bowl over the past year, so the Super Bowl is the natural next step. The Super Bowl is a weeklong media blitz the likes of which you just don’t see for any other American sporting event. It’s where everyone in sports will want to be this time next year, not to mentioned every one of the 53 players on all 32 NFL teams.

What are the Colts’ odds to win Super Bowl LVIII?

The Colts open the offseason with the third-worst odds to win Super Bowl LVIII.

The 2022 season officially came to an end Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Now, the Indianapolis Colts, along with the rest of the NFL are working with a clean slate as they prepare for the 2023 campaign. Coming off a 4-12-1 season and with several questions facing the roster, the Colts don’t find themselves as a favorable team in the eyes of Vegas.

According to Tipico Sportsbook, the Colts will open the offseason with the third-worst odds to win Super Bowl LVIII at +9000. Only the Arizona Cardinals (+10000) and Houston Texans (+10000) have worse odds.

On top of that, the Colts have the second worst odds to win the AFC Championship at +5000, which comes in just higher than the Texans at +8000.

At this point in the offseason, the Super Bowl odds are moot. So many changes are set to come across the league that some teams won’t look recognizable by the time September rolls around.

But it does give us a slight idea of how Vegas views the Colts going into the eventful months of the offseason.

With Shane Steichen expected to be the next head coach, plenty of moves will be on the way for a Colts team that is desperate to put the 2022 season behind them.

How bad are the Patriots’ Super Bowl LVIII odds?

What are the Patriots’ Super Bowl LVIII odds?

The New England Patriots were a mess of their own doing in the 2022 season, and the odds are out on the chances of them turning it all around and winning Super Bowl LVIII next year.

So, what are the chances the Patriots hoist their franchise’s seventh Lombardi Trophy at the end of the 2023 season?

Well, not good.

The Patriots are listed at +5000 odds to win the next Super Bowl, according to BetMGM. To be fair, they are currently playing in one of the best divisions in football, and they’d have to get through a conference packed with juggernaut opponents like the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals and Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs.

However, the good news is the Patriots should be a much better team with Bill O’Brien being named as the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The team also has the cap space to load up in free agency or maybe even pull off a blockbuster trade for a game-changing receiver they so desperately need.

It isn’t a stretch to consider the Patriots a legitimate dark horse team in 2023, given their emerging young talent and exceptional defense. Hope isn’t completely lost on them—not yet, anyways.

Houston Texans tied with Arizona Cardinals for worst odds to win Super Bowl LVIII

The Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals both have the worst odds to win Super Bowl LVIII at the end of the 2023 NFL season.

Imagine if the Houston Texans won the Super Bowl.

If such a fantasy became a reality, it would also make whoever wagered on the Texans to do so filthy rich.

According to Tipico, the Texans are tied with the Arizona Cardinals for the worst odds to Super Bowl LVIII at +15000. Even the Indianapolis Colts — who have no coach and equal ambiguity at quarterback — have better odds than the Texans at +10000.

Across the rest of the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans are +7000. The Jacksonville Jaguars have the best and reasonable odds at +2900. For the Jaguars to even qualify for the Big Game would be a milestone in their franchise’s history as the Jaguars have never won the AFC Championship Game.

The five teams atop the list are no surprise. The Kansas City Chiefs are given +520 to repeat. The Buffalo Bills have +700 to win their franchise’s first Super Bowl in what would be their fifth try. The San Francisco 49ers, who have decisions to make at quarterback this season, have +750 odds. The Philadelphia Eagles are +800 while the Cincinnati Bengals are +900.

Winning the Super Bowl is a directive that DeMeco Ryans set out in his opening press conference on Feb. 2.

“We want to develop a great team here that we can deliver wins to the city of Houston,” Ryans said. “We want to deliver a championship here to the city of Houston, and that’s what it will be about.”

How the Texans go about obtaining that championship will be fascinating to watch, and Houston sports fans would gladly go along that journey rather than wait for the Texans to be some intermezzo act between the end of the Houston Astros’ season and the date pitchers and catchers report in Palm Beach.

Super Bowl LVIII returns to the desert in a sense as Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders, will settle the showdown between the 2023 AFC and NFC champions.
