8 ex-Giants will play or participate in Super Bowl LVIII

Eight former members of the New York Giants will play, coach or participate in a Super Bowl LVIII battle between the 49ers and Chiefs.

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens, 17-10, to punch their ticket to Super Bowl LVIII.

Mere hours later, the San Francisco 49ers roared back and picked up a come-from-behind win over the Detroit Lions, 34-31, sending them to The Big Game.

The game will be a rematch of Super Bowl LIV — a 31-20 Kansas City victory.

There will also be a slight New York Giants flavor to the entire thing. Eight former members of the team will either play, coach or participate in the NFL’s classic finale.

Here’s a look at all eight (front office members were not included):

Broncos fan ‘Tiësto’ named NFL’s first-ever in-game DJ for the Super Bowl

Tiësto, a Broncos fan, will serve as the NFL’s first in-game DJ at the Super Bowl.

The Denver Broncos season ended a few weeks ago, but there is still some good news regarding the franchise.

Next month, Broncos fan “Tiësto” will be the NFL’s first-ever in-game DJ for the Super Bowl. Tiësto will perform a DJ set before the game while the players warm up and fans settle in.

He will also serve as the in-game DJ and play during featured breaks. Tim Tubito, director of event presentation and content at the NFL, explains the rationale behind the decision.

“Each year, we look to elevate the in-stadium experience for our fans, and with our first Super Bowl in Las Vegas, it seems only fitting to embrace the legacy of iconic DJs in this city by having Tiesto bring his signature style to our biggest event,” Tubito said in a press release from the NFL.

“As one of the most influential DJ/producers who helped define the culture of Las Vegas and electronic music around the world, Tiësto is the perfect artist to help us create an unforgettable gameday experience for our fans, players and viewers everywhere.”

In 2015, Tiësto spoke to the Broncos’ official website about adopting the club as his favorite NFL team.

“I’ve always been a football fan, and I’m from Europe, so I didn’t really have a team.” Tiësto said. “But I support all my friends’ teams and one of my good friends is from Denver and also my girlfriend is from Denver so I thought, I’ve got to adopt them.”

Super Bowl LVIII will be televised on CBS on Sunday, Feb. 11.

49ers open as slight favorites over Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII

The 49ers open as favorites over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.

The San Francisco 49ers are set for a rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Their first meeting in Super Bowl LIV to conclude the 2019 season finished with a 31-20 Chiefs win. Early odds have the 49ers as the favorites to avenge that defeat.

BetMGM has San Francisco listed as 1.5-point favorites over the Chiefs on the opening line. With two weeks to go until the game though there’s plenty of time for that line to move.

The 49ers have been favored in all three of their playoff games, including by 9.5 over the Packers in the divisional round and 7 over the Lions in the conference championship game.

They’ve yet to cover a spread after a pair of three-point victories. They’ll need to cover this one against the Chiefs if they want to get a win and their sixth Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first half and never let it go. The Ravens had a couple shots at the end zone in the second half, but both resulted in turnovers The first was a fumble at the goal line that was recovered by the Chiefs for a touchback. The other was an interception in the end zone.

Later in the day it was the top seeded 49ers who handled business, beating the Lions 34-31.

It was the Lions who jumped to a lead early. They went up 24-7 lead at the half and blew it. The 49ers ran off 20 straight points to take a 34-24 lead late. The Lions would add a touchdown, but it wasn’t too little too late.

Twitter reacts to Chiefs’ win over Ravens, second-consecutive Super Bowl berth

Users on Twitter went wild when the #Chiefs defeated the #Ravens to advance to their second-consecutive Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to play in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11 after defeating the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night.

While their opponent for the season’s final showdown has yet to be determined, Kansas City’s fans went crazy on social media after watching the Chiefs win the Lamar Hunt Trophy.

The poise shown against Baltimore by the reigning MVP and the rest of Kansas City’s roster was the stuff of legend and in just their second road playoff game of the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs proved they have the mettle to bring another Lombardi Trophy to Western Missouri.

Wins like the one Kansas City secured on Sunday are hard to come by, especially when a team has to play on the road. The victory over Baltimore solidified the Chiefs’ status as the team to beat in the NFL and will serve to add to Mahomes’ legend ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

Check out some of Twitter’s top reactions to Kansas City’s win over the Ravens:

Chiefs defeat Ravens in AFC Championship game, advance to Super Bowl LVIII

The Kansas City #Chiefs defeated the Baltimore #Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night to advance to Super Bowl LVIII.

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl-bound after defeating the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 17-10 at M&T Bank Stadium in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night.

The matchup between the AFC heavyweights made for excellent television, and was hotly contested in all four quarters. Kansas City maintained a 10-point lead until the fourth quarter when Ravens kicker Justin Tucker hit a field goal to cut the lead to seven.

Baltimore gave the ball back to the Chiefs with just over two minutes remaining in the game, and after a clutch drive by Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City sealed the game on a Marquez Valdes-Scantling reception that earned a first down.

While the Ravens showed plenty of fight in this game, they were unable to show an ability to finish drives against the Chiefs’ rock-solid defense.

Kansas City’s opponent in Super Bowl LVIII will be determined by the outcome of the NFC Championship Game, which is set to kick off later on Sunday night.

Every Eagles 10-1 start to the season has this in common

The Philadelphia Eagles’ nine-win start to the season might be old news, but there’s something recurring with each time they start the season with nine wins.

Does the Philadelphia Eagles’ 10-1 start to the season feel reminiscent of some past success? They might not have had it all together yet this season, but no team in the NFL is ever perfect.

With the Eagles leading the NFL with the best record, they can make magic happen early.

Here’s the exciting part: each time the Eagles started the season 10-1, they made the Super Bowl. There are four instances where this has happened and what that means for the 2023 season.

1980 Season (12-4): Reached the Super Bowl

The 1980 Philadelphia Eagles looked to improve from their 11-5 record the season prior, landing them at a wildcard spot. They delivered in a big way. The team’s season began at home at Veterans Stadium with a 27-6 win over the Denver Broncos, They then went on to win the next two games, however lost in Week 4 to the St. Louis Cardinals football team, 24-14. This was enough for the team to turn things around and outscore their next eight opponents, 184-102. This was enough, plus one more win against the Cardinals later in the season, to push to the playoffs and play against the Oakland Raiders, where they lost 27-10.

2004 Season (13-3): Reached the Super Bowl

About 20 years later, the Eagles would reach that same level of success again. Once the Andy Reid-Donovan McNabb era began in 1999, the team would achieve success in 2001, 2002, and 2003 but not quite make it back to the Super Bowl until 2004. The team started 7-0 before taking their first-season loss to the Steelers, 27-3. After that, the team turned things around for the remainder of the season. They lost their final two games at home which didn’t matter as they secured the first-round bye. After winning both games at home against the Vikings and Falcons, they faced the Patriots in the Super Bowl and lost 24-21.

Close Calls

Through the next 13 years, the Eagles would have a handful of close calls with making the playoffs, regardless of rocky starts. No season would be as nearly successful until 2017 when that will finally change under a new era.

2017 Season (13-3): Win the Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles finally won their first Super Bowl. After a win against the then-Washington Redskins, they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-20. Returning from their bye week, the Eagles started 9-1 after a win over the Dallas Cowboys. They’d not lose again until early December against the Seattle Seahawks and then against the Cowboys in a game that didn’t matter because they were already in the playoffs. From there, the rest is history. This defensive-dominant Super Bowl-winning team held their two opponents before the Super Bowl to 17 points. After a historic performance in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots, the team finally won, 41-33.

2022 Season (14-3): Reached the Super Bowl

For a few years, the team moved on from a different head coach and quarterbacks and landed in a prime position to run it back to the Super Bowl for the second time in five years with a different regime. In the second entire season of the Sirianni-Hurts era, it delivered hugely. For the first time, the team started 8-0 which translated to a 14-3 record heading into the playoffs. The team wasn’t perfect but dominated similarly to their 2017 run. In the playoffs, the Eagles outscored their opponents 69-14 before losing by three in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35.

How to Run it Back in 2023

Now that the Eagles are 10-1 and halfway through their “gauntlet,” their path to the Super Bowl isn’t easy yet; they can clinch a playoff berth this weekend with a bit of help from a few other NFC teams, but would then have to continue winning out to get the first seed practically. It’s not easy, but if you give the Eagles a chance, they will take it.
