Kendrick Lamar will perform the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show

Kendrick Lamar is about to pop out at the Super Bowl

Kendrick Lamar is having quite the year after a high-profile rap feud, and it just got even bigger after he announced Sunday he’ll be doing the halftime show for Super Bowl 59 in February.

Set to take place on Feb. 9, 2025, this season’s Super Bowl will happen at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. K. Dot will follow Usher as the halftime performer, though it won’t be his first halftime appearance.

Lamar was also a part of Dr. Dre’s halftime set in 2022.

Here was how Lamar announced his second halftime appearance:

If Lamar’s recent Ken and Friends show was a preview of what to expect, it’s going to be a great show. And if this line from Lamar’s announcement video — “there’s only one opportunity to win a championship. There’s no round twos” — sounded like a another petty jab at Drake, it probably was.

The victory lap continues.

Usher’s dance moves during the Super Bowl halftime show had fans dropping bug related memes and jokes

He needs to answer for this. WHAT IS THIS, USHER RAYMOND?!

Usher is talented. His dancing is next-level, and he often draws inspiration from other artists. But the fans did not hold back when he broke out several ticking dance moves during his Super Bowl halftime performance. The bug jokes are stacking up and a new meme has been born.

Usher’s halftime performance was SO GOOD. He sang well and invited some of his best celebrity friends (I’m still not over that H.E.R. appearance) to join the party. But, we must talk about some of the dancing. Most of it was great, considering I would have sprained a knee attempting any of it, but Usher —my man — WHAT IS THIS?!

I know you have been doing ticking for years, but WHY?!

I somehow missed this in real-time, but the internet did not. Fans immediately dropped bug references and memes.

Super Bowl halftime show review: Usher stunned with a very Vegas show including roller skates and so many hits

Usher was truly fantastic.

Usher’s halftime performance at the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas may have caused singing, dancing, sweating, gyrating, and possible relationship issues.

The incredible musician, who arrived at the Super Bowl while seemingly wearing a blanket, had a tough act to follow after a delightful performance from Rihanna last season.

But we are talking about Usher, who took over Las Vegas long before he was tasked with performing at the Super Bowl. Remember, there is a reason why GQ called him the new king of Vegas.

This was a fantastic all-around performance from Usher, who kept the energy high at Allegiant Stadium after an uneventful first half between the 49ers and the Chiefs.

Although it was teased by Ludacris and Lil Jon, the performance did not begin with “Yeah!” (which came later in the show) but instead with a “My Way” and “Caught Up” medley.

He uniquely began the show, performing not on a stage but directly on the football field. The singer also brought out the marching band from Jackson State and then the always fabulous Alicia Keys, who wore a beautiful cape and joined him for a duet.

As predicted by our own Meghan L. Hall, other guest stars who joined Usher on the stage included Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R. (who played guitar on roller skates), Will.I.Am, Lil Jon (who is a longtime fan of the 49ers) and Ludacris.

(Despite rumors he would join, there is also a very good reason why Justin Bieber did not guest.)

Highlights of the performance included Usher wearing one glove like Michael Jackson and briefly going shirtless before roller skating on the stage himself.

Usher managed to fit 16 songs (and so many hits) into the length of the halftime show. Will this go down as one of the best halftime shows of all time?

If you thought so, now that his Super Bowl performance is completed, Usher is going on tour and is potentially bringing the magic to a city near you.

Super Bowl 2024: 5 important things to know about the Super Bowl halftime show

Every Super Bowl halftime show performer since the first one in 1967 (2024 edition)

A look at every Super Bowl halftime show performer from the last several decades.

Editor’s note: This story was originally published in 2023 and has been updated.

There’s a little something for everyone when it comes to the Super Bowl. Some are there for the obvious reason: football. But plenty of other people tune in just to watch the very expensive ads, while others are hanging out for the halftime show.

The Super Bowl halftime show is a very big deal for a mini concert that most people watching are, in fact, watching from afar. With superstar artists often headlining the shows, fans are treated to fun performances (though there have been some not great ones as well), plus the nearly guaranteed memes and jokes that follow.

Usher announced as Super Bowl 58 halftime show headliner with help from Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders and more

Usher is headlining the Super Bowl 58 halftime show in Vegas.

Want to see something cool? Watch this.

We finally got an answer to who’s headlining the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11, and it’s none other than Usher.

Apple announced the You Got It Bad singer as the headliner in different edited versions of the classic video for his 2004 hit Confessions, Pt. II. Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, Marshawn Lynch, Odell Beckham Jr. and even Usher himself were all enlisted to act out the scenes in between Usher’s sketch from the old video, but instead of telling him about what happened with the chick from Part 1, they pretend to tell him about the Super Bowl.

Usher makes a lot of sense for the Vegas Super Bowl for several reasons. In addition to the countless hit songs he has to perform, he’s been doing a residency in Vegas for the last year that’s been so successful it was recently extended through December.

Usher follows Rihanna, Dr. Dre and The Weeknd as the most recent Super Bowl halftime show headliners.

Rihanna’s Super Bowl backup dancers looked like puffed marshmallows and NFL fans turned it into a meme

They got roasted.

Fans couldn’t wait for Rihanna’s long-awaited return to a stage, which came at halftime of Super Bowl 57. And for the most part, it lived up to what people were hoping to see.

She performed a lot of her biggest hits, coming out on platforms that reminded people of Super Smash Bros., and it turned out to be a good show even without a guest appearance.

But it’s not a perfect Super Bowl halftime until somebody becomes a meme, and unfortunately for Rihanna’s poor background dancers, they were an easy target thanks to these puffed-up windbreakers they were wearing as they ran onto the field.

NFL fans had a ball.

Rihanna rocked the Super Bowl halftime show with no guests, and fans loved it

No Jay-Z? No Drake? No problem. We got Rhianna.

Rihanna’s Super Bowl 57 halftime show was ridiculously awesome.

She started on platform high above the field — in a scene that sort of resembled a Super Smash Bros. map — rapping and singing along to “[Expletive] Better Have My Money” as she descended down into the stadium. For our money, the show was pretty great.

And when you have a performer like Rihanna — who took the stage live for the first time in seven years — who needs guest features?

Usually — like Dr. Dre last year — the Super Bowl halftime show performer comes along with a few guests.

But this year? Rihanna did it all on her own, save for a backup band and what seemed like a few hundred dancers.

There was no Drake, no Jay-Z, no Young Jeezy and no Kanye West on stage in Arizona, despite Rihanna performing songs that had those rappers featured in them on the original tracks.

And fans were just fine with that. Rihanna owned the stage and delivered.

A$AP Rocky looked so proud filming Rihanna’s incredible Super Bowl halftime show

Look how excited A$AP Rocky was for Rihanna!

Rapper A$AP Rocky went from musician to proud boyfriend during the Super Bowl 57 halftime show.

As pop icon Rihanna took the stage for a stupendous performance, A$AP Rocky looked on from the sidelines and cheered on his partner.

Hey, if your partner was performing in one of the biggest cultural moments of the year, you’d be pretty darn hyped, too. Good for A$AP Rocky for being so supportive during what’s certainly a huge night for the couple.

Now, if we could only get a shot of A$AP Rocky getting hyped for a new Rihanna album, we’d all really be thriving. We’ll just enjoy these Smash Bros. memes for now.
