5 early bold predictions (Travis Kelce MVP?) for Super Bowl 58

Here’s our early predictions for this year’s Super Bowl, including potential MVP honors for Travis Kelce.

And so they meet again.

Four years ago, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers met in the Super Bowl. It was the then-defining moment of Patrick Mahomes’ already legendary career as the 49ers learned they simply weren’t good enough to win it all (at least at quarterback).

Four years later, both teams took very different paths to this unconventional rematch (for example, Mahomes and Kelce are two of the only remaining starters from that Chiefs team.). At the same time, San Francisco has a quarterback it believes in this time. And while much of the football-consuming public might be sick of Chiefs-49ers for all the marbles yet again, I’d be lying if the matchup itself didn’t present some exciting possibilities.

Let’s map out a few early predictions for what might happen in Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas on February 11.

CBS will have ‘Doink cameras’ for Super Bowl 2024 in the goalposts and NFL fans are pumped

We’re getting “Doink cams” at Super Bowl 58 thanks to CBS.

In any NFL game, there are cameras everywhere — above, below, in pilons at the goal line, on the first down marker, you name it.

But now? With CBS broadcasting Super Bowl 58 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, we’re getting a whole new set of cameras: It’s time to meet DOINK CAM.

That’s the nickname for them. CBS is putting multiple cameras — six, to be exact, embedded in the goalposts at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas — in the goal posts so you can see the footballs passing by … or maybe hitting one of the yellow posts, if we’re lucky, so we can see a true DOINK happen.

Here’s the announcement, along with some reaction from NFL fans:

Every quarterback Patrick Mahomes has beaten in the playoffs (so far), from Andrew Luck to Lamar Jackson

Patrick Mahomes has singlehandedly kept a lot of great QBs from winning championships.

At this point, it’s more than fair to call Patrick Mahomes the Michael Jordan of the NFL. Not only in the sense of his greatness while leading the Kansas City Chiefs to postseason glory every year but also in how he prevents his extremely talented counterparts from tasting their own success.

Mahomes is now 14-3 in the playoffs as a starter. That’s 14 different instances where Pro Bowl-caliber quarterbacks, superstars, and signal-callers on the verge of Lombardi Trophy greatness were impeded by the best football player alive. And given that Mahomes doesn’t turn 29 until mid-September, chances are the list of playoff quarterback conquests will only continue to grow in the coming years.

Let’s take a look at all 12 quarterbacks Mahomes has overcome in his iconic postseason career so far.

NFL fans collectively groaned about Chiefs-49ers being the Super Bowl 58 matchup no one wanted

No one’s happy with the worst possible Super Bowl matchup.

After an exciting NFL season rife with storylines and drama, we were this close to an intriguing Super Bowl 58 matchup. We almost got Lamar Jackson, the greatest dual-threat quarterback ever, and his juggernaut Baltimore Ravens facing off against the Detroit Lions, the de facto Chicago Cubs of pro football.

Instead, it’s Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs (again) against the San Francisco 49ers (again). Bleh. How uninspired. How anti-climatic. How disappointing.

None of this is to say the Chiefs and 49ers don’t belong here. They ran through their respective AFC and NFC playoff fields and earned their keep with their conference titles. But outside of a few extenuating new factors, we already saw the Chiefs and 49ers match up in a Super Bowl in February 2020. We’ve already seen Mahomes play in the big game, his fourth in six years as a starter. We know the 49ers are largely great everywhere except at quarterback — which is more or less their same storyline from 2020!

There’s nothing refreshing or compelling about this matchup that we haven’t seen before. It’s essentially the same script with the same football figures we’ve watched for nearly half a decade. And given the Chiefs’ transition toward becoming a power offense with a strong defense, the “rematch” will probably also be more of a slog. Here’s hoping the game turns out to be competitive, let alone a classic. Many people will definitely watch the biggest sporting event in the United States, anyway.

But it sure feels like we missed out on something special in Las Vegas in two weeks, and that’s a real shame for the NFL world.

Road to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas begins now

Super Bowl LVII is done. Next stop: Vegas, baby!

Super Bowl LVII is behind us. The decorations are being taken down in Phoenix and everyone is headed home for the offseason.

The Chiefs are the reigning champions until someone dethrones them. And the next chance to dethrone them will take place in Las Vegas a year from now.

All sights are now set on Allegiant Stadium for Super Bowl LVIII.

Allegiant Stadium and SoFi are the NFL’s two newest stadiums. SoFi hosted Super Bowl LVI last year. Next year it’s Allegiant’s turn.

Sin City has hosted the NFL Draft and the Pro Bowl over the past year, so the Super Bowl is the natural next step. The Super Bowl is a weeklong media blitz the likes of which you just don’t see for any other American sporting event. It’s where everyone in sports will want to be this time next year, not to mentioned every one of the 53 players on all 32 NFL teams.

Very early look at Chargers’ odds for Super Bowl LVIII

Taking a look at what Vegas makes out of the Chargers making it to the Super Bowl next year.

It’s Super Bowl week…but not for the Chargers.

Instead, it’s that time when fans reminisce on what could be if their favorite team were in the Super Bowl and begin looking towards next year to get an early idea of what sportsbooks make out of their squad making it.

For the Bolts, they are the seventh overall favorite to win Super Bowl LVIII and fourth among AFC teams at +2200, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

The teams that have better odds than Los Angeles are the Chiefs (+550), Bills (+650), 49ers (+700), Eagles (+800), Bengals (+900) and Cowboys (+1400).

The Chargers are coming off a decent season that saw them finish with a 10-7 record in the regular season and make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2018 despite dealing with injuries to key players throughout the season.

Los Angeles is off to a great start with their remodeling of the team with the hiring of Kellen Moore to be the offensive coordinator. Now, how they reconstruct their roster will be polarizing.

As it stands, the Chargers are in one of the worst salary cap situations in the league, and they will have to make some moves to free up some money to extend Justin Herbert, sign free agents and their rookie draft class.

If Tom Telesco is somehow able to hit a home run this offseason, Los Angeles’ odds could take a dip.
