Seahawks pick UTEP LB Tyrice Knight at No. 118 overall

Knight was one of the team’s pre-draft visits.

With the No. 118 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL draft, the Seahawks have selected UTEP linebacker Tyrice Knight.

Knight was one of the team’s pre-draft visits.

Knight (6-foot-2, 240 pounds) posted two interceptions, 8.5 sacks, 32 tackles for a loss, 16 pass breakups and four forced fumbles in 45 career college games.

Knight should project as a backup for his rookie season, filling in behind projected starters Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker. He should be ready to start as soon as 2025, though.

The Seahawks will be on the clock again in a minute at No. 121…

Seahawks trade down from No. 102 spot with the Broncos

If you thought the Seahawks would get through this draft without trading down at least once, we have a Pacific Ocean to sell you.

If you thought the Seahawks would get through this draft without trading down at least once, we have a Pacific Ocean to sell you. Seattle was slated to pick second in the fourth round at No. 102 overall. However, instead of making a pick the team has elected to trade down with the Broncos.

Tom Pelissero at NFL Network has the details of the trade. Apparently they are sending pick Nos. 102 and 235 overall to Denver in exchange for Nos. 121, 136 and 207 overall.

According to the math the total value of Seattle’s picks is about 93.9 and Denver’s is 99.6, which means this represents a modest gain in capital (6%) for the Seahawks. They will be on the clock again in the middle of Round 4 at No. 118 overall.

Christian Haynes says he grew up a Seahawks fan, loves Geno Smith

Third-round pick Christian Haynes also grew up a Seattle fan despite being from the Maryland area.

Seahawks fans have been well represented by the team in the 2024 NFL draft in a literal sense. First-round pick Byron Murphy II grew up as a fan of the Legion of Boom despite living deep in Cowboys country. Third-round pick Christian Haynes also grew up a Seattle fan despite being from the Maryland area.

Being not too far from West Virginia, Haynes told reporters last night he’s also a big fan of Geno Smith’s game.

The first order of business for Haynes will be protecting Geno Smith, and he did an excellent job in that department during his time in college. Over the last two seasons at UConn, Haynes only allowed one sacks and two quarterback hits.

Last season Smith was under constant pressure, especially from the right side of the offensive line as the Seahawks struggled with starting right tackle Abe Lucas out with a knee injury for 11 games. Outside of Patrick Mahomes Smith avoided sacks as well as any NFL quarterback in 2023, but he still took 31 sacks, averaging just under two per game. Getting that number down will be critical if OC Ryan Grubb’s scheme is going to reach its peak this year.

Seahawks tried trading back up into the second round ‘multiple times’

To occupy themselves Schneider says the team thought about Leonard Williams.

If you were bored to tears and anxious for the Seattle Seahawks to finally get back on the clock last night as Round 2 unfolded you weren’t alone. According to Seattle general manager John Schneider, the team tried to move back up into the second round multiple times. However, they were unable to swing a deal as everyone they talked to wanted to make a pick.

To occupy themselves Schneider says the team thought about Leonard Williams, who they gave up their second-round pick for to the Giants.

Fortunately the Seahawks won’t need to move up on Day 3. After the Panthers make the first pick in Round 4 Seattle will be on the clock at No. 102.

Our best guess for that first pick is they will be targeting Boston College guard Christian Mahogany, setting themselves up for two potential long-term starters at those guard spots along with UConn’s Christian Haynes.

Ranking the top 25 remaining prospects for Seahawks going into Day 3

Here are the top 25 prospects who are still on the board as far as Seattle should be conerned.

Last night we had time to finish reading a novel and start another one as the Seahawks were waiting for their turn to pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. Today that won’t be the case, as Seattle is slated to pick second behind Carolina at the top of the fourth round at No. 102 overall. The Seahawks will be on the clock again not long after at 118. That means they’ll have their choice of the top remaining prospects in the draft.

With that in mind, here are the top 25 prospects who are still on the board as far as Seattle should be conerned.

Seahawks pick UConn G Christian Haynes at No. 81 overall

Seattle has selected UConn guard Christian Haynes at No. 81 overall.

After waiting nearly three and a half hours, the Seattle Seahawks have finally made their pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft.

According to Jordan Schultz, Seattle has selected UConn guard Christian Haynes at No. 81 overall.

Haynes (6-foot-2, 313 pounds) was arguably the top interior offensive lineman still on the board at the time.

In three seasons, Haynes played right guard for the Huskies at a consistently respectable level, earning solid grades of 72.0 in 2021, 83.9 in 2022 and 80.2 overall in 2023 from Pro Football Focus in his college career.

Haynes should project as the team’s Week 1 starter at right guard for this coming season. However, he may have to beat out 2023 fourth-round draft pick Anthony Bradford over the summer for it to be official.

Here’s how the new draft order shapes up heading into Day 2.

The 2024 NFL draft will kick into high gear this evening when the second round kicks off in front of a raucous Detroit crowd. Every year the order of picks going in changes pretty dramatically thanks to trades during the draft.

Let’s reset and see where all 32 teams stand going into the second day of the draft. As for the Seahawks, they did not trade down from their No. 16 overall spot in Round 1 as expected, so they’ll have to wait until No. 81 overall (Round 3) to pick tonight unless they move up. Here’s what the full updated order of picks looks like heading into Day 2.

Every pick made in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft

Here’s how all 32 picks went down on the first night of the draft.

The first round of the 2024 NFL draft played out exactly as expected… for about seven picks. When the Atlanta Falcons came on the clock at No. 8 overall all hell broke loose as they made an all-time stunning pick, selecting Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. despite already having signed veteran Kirk Cousins to a lucrative four-year deal just last month.

From there, the offensive picks continued all the way up to No. 15, which helped set the Seattle Seahawks up to land the top defensive line prospect in this class. Here’s how all 32 picks went down on the first night of the draft.

Seahawks pick Texas DT Byron Murphy II at No. 16 overall

With the No. 16 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks have picked Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II.

With the No. 16 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks have picked Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II.

Jordan Schultz was the first to report the news.

Murphy (6-foot-1, 308 pounds) is just the second defensive prospect taken so far after the Colts selected UCLA edge Laiatu Latu with the previous pick. All together, Murphy totaled eight sacks and 15 tackles for a loss in three seasons with the Longhorns.

Murphy is considered the best defensive line prospect overall and the top interior pass rusher in this draft class, earning a nation-best 91.5 pass rush grade at his position last season. Overall Murphy improved significantly each year at Texas, posting a 73.3 grade in 2021, followed by an 82.7 grade in 2022, then a 91.1 in 2023.

Murphy should project as a starter right away.

Tyler Lockett to announce third-round draft pick for Seahawks

The NFL typically has team legends announce the picks on Day 2 of the draft. The full list of legends was just announced.

Ari Meirov just shared the list, which shows Tyler Lockett will be announcing the Seahawks’ third-round pick this year (No. 81 overall).

Lockett was of course a third-round pick himself back in 2015 when Seattle sent four draft picks to Washington in order to move up to No. 69 overall, where they picked Lockett.

Having taken a paycut this offseason, Lockett will return for his 10th season in Seattle. He projects as the No. 3 wide receiver on the depth chart, which may be the deepest in the league at the position – especially if the Seahawks use one of their picks this weekend on another one.
