Umpire couldn’t believe how Guardians’ Steven Kwan’s single ridiculously toed the infield foul line

That’s not something you see everyday!

As one of the hotter teams in baseball of late, the Guardians have won seven of their last eight games to maintain a division lead in the AL Central.

And while Cleveland’s been pitching well and hitting well and, you know, doing all the good things you’d want the diamond — we got an excellent example of “everything come up Guardians” on Tuesday night against the Angels (-1.5).

In a tie 1-1 game at the bottom of the fifth inning, Cleveland’s Steven Kwan was at the plate to face L.A.’s Joe Suarez. When Kwan created contact on a soft chopper to the right, all weirdness and chaos broke out around the foul line.

You see, Kwan’s ball landed perfectly and was quite literally just fair. When Angels’ catcher Matt Thaiss and an umpire watched it roll and stop perfectly, the latter couldn’t believe it before pointing “fair.”

Oh yeah. You probably haven’t seen a better-placed hit all MLB season than Kwan’s. Of course the Guardians would go on to win 3-1. And the reaction from everyone involved is very appropriate for this very fair ball.

Traducción.- Gerrit Cole poncha a Myles Straw

Guardians’ Steven Kwan’s incredible 116-pitch streak of 0 swings-and-misses is over

Kwan can rake.

If you haven’t been adding Steven Kwan to your player prop parlays, my only question is what are you waiting for?

Through five games of the season entering Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians rookie was 10-of-15 at the plate for a .667 average. A bet on him to simply record a hit or total base in any of those five games would’ve resulted in a win.

Even more impressive, Kwan didn’t have a single swing and miss through 116 pitches (116!) until his first strikeout of the season in Wednesday’s game against the Reds. And even that miss was a foul tip (which apparently counts as a swing and miss. Don’t ask).

It’s the longest such streak for a player to start his career since at least 2000.

Simply put, Kwan sees the ball extremely well. He also had seven walks through his first five games, showing the discipline to take pitches when a hit wasn’t there to be had. In the second inning of Wednesday’s game, with the bases loaded, he forced his eighth walk of the season to drive in a run.

And just in case you think this early-season streak is a fluke, I wouldn’t be so sure. Kwan didn’t strike out once in 32 at-bats during Spring Training, where he hit .469.

Guardians rookie sensation Steven Kwan took an actual base with him on the team flight

Amazing.

Sample size obviously matters a ton in baseball when it comes to evaluating performance, but even with that in mind, it’s impossible to overlook the start that Guardians rookie Steven Kwan is having to his big-league career.

The former fifth-round pick out of Oregon State is fresh off his first MLB series, and all he did was go 9 for 13 with three RBI and five walks. He blew Monday’s game open with a bases-loaded triple. He went 5 for 5 on Sunday. He spent so much time on base in Kansas City — a ridiculous .789 on base percentage — that he figured he might as well take a base with him on the team’s flight to Cincinnati to play the Reds.

The Guardians Twitter account shared a photo of an actual base buckled in on the team flight. The best part had to be that it still had the Kansas City Royals’ logo on it. Like, is the grounds crew at Kauffman Stadium going to be wondering what happened to second base?

Let’s hope not. But after a weekend like that, Kwan deserved his new travel buddy. After all, no other player had reached base 15 times in his first four career games.

MLB fans also thought the tweet was great.

5 players you need to add in fantasy leagues after MLB’s opening weekend

Steven Kwan and Hunter Greene should be your top priorities on the waiver wires

Not much can be learned after just four games.

That much is pretty true across most sports, but especially in baseball, where it accounts for barely 2.4% of team’s 162-game season. That doesn’t mean we can’t overreact to some of what we saw across Major League Baseball’s opening weekend.

And for fantasy players who are still in the midst of their first matchup, early season acquisitions can be absolutely crucial. You don’t want to miss out on the type of production Yermin Mercedes had last April or what Logan Webb was able to sustain all year.

One series might not tell us everything we need to know, but it’s enough to convince us to add a few players off waivers immediately. Here’s who you should grab as fast as you can.
