Highlights of every new Bears roster addition

The Bears claimed six players off waivers, including Alex Leatherwood and Armon Watts. Check out highlights of each player:

The Chicago Bears made several roster moves after setting their initial 53-man roster. They claimed six players off of waivers, which was the most in the league.

That included former first-round offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood, who lasted just one year in Las Vegas before being a surprise cut. Another surprise cut was former Vikings defensive tackle Armon Watts, who comes to Chicago as an upgrade at the nose tackle position.

Chicago also claimed comeback Josh Blackwell, defensive end Kingsley Jonathan, linebacker Sterling Weatherford and tight end Trevon Wesco.

In corresponding roster moves, Chicago waived rookie offensive lineman Zachary Thomas, defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga, linebacker Caleb Johnson and cornerback Duke Shelley. They also terminated the contract of linebacker Joe Thomas and placed receiver Tajae Sharpe on injured reserve.

The Bears have welcomed six new members to the roster. Here are highlights of each of them:

Bears claimed LB Sterling Weatherford off waivers from Colts

The Bears grabbed Sterling Weatherford off waivers from the Colts.

The Chicago Bears claimed linebacker Sterling Weatherford off of the waiver wire from the Indianapolis Colts on Wednesday.

An undrafted free agent, Weatherford had a strong showing throughout his time with the Colts—as short-lived as it was. The rookie linebacker seemed to have played himself into a role in the back end of the depth chart, but was one of the surprising cuts Tuesday.

While the Colts hoped to bring him back to the practice squad if he cleared waivers, that never came to fruition. Instead, the promising young linebacker was claimed by Bears general manager Ryan Poles and will be working under former Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

The writing was on the wall Tuesday when the Colts traded for linebacker Grant Stuard, a special teams ace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going into his second season.

Weatherford would have been a strong addition to the practice squad but now will get a chance to begin his career on the active roster with the Bears.

Stock report from Colts’ preseason loss to Lions

Here is the stock report from the Colts’ preseason loss to the Lions.

The Indianapolis Colts got through their second preseason game with a 27-26 loss to the Detroit Lions on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Without the majority of starters on the field, the Colts got a good look at the deeper parts of the depth chart. On both sides of the ball, we saw some players raise their stock with one preseason game left. We also saw some players lower their stock going into the preseason finale.

The stock reports are always fluid. It changes from player to player. A factor that might damage the stock of one player may not have the same impact on another. Most of it is circumstantial, and things can change on a dime in the NFL.

But with the second preseason game now behind us, here is a look at the stock report from Saturday’s loss:

Colts’ 2022 training camp preview: Linebackers

Here’s a look at the LB corps entering Colts training camp.

The Indianapolis Colts are officially one week away from the start of training camp with veterans set to report July 26.

Among those veterans will be the linebackers led by Darius Leonard and Bobby Okereke. The Colts didn’t make too many changes to the linebacker room outside of adding a veteran special teamer and two intriguing undrafted rookie free agents following the 2022 NFL draft.

Be sure to check out the other position previews ahead of training camp:

Things have changed a bit for the Carolina Panthers since our last go at a mock.

New names have been signed, familiar faces have come (back) and gone and a fresh set of youngsters are getting closer to breaking in. So, it’s about time we take another swing at this.

With a chunk of free agency now in the bag and the draft less than a month away, here’s our fifth set of seven-round projections for the 2022 draft.
