Former Bengals player reunites with Brian Callahan on Titans

A former Bengals player is in the news for a reunion.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tyler Boyd isn’t the only guy linking up with Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan this season.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, former Bengals wideout Stanley Morgan has signed on with the Titans via the practice squad.

Morgan was extremely popular with fans when he joined the Bengals via undrafted free agency in 2019. He eventually worked his way up to a prominent role as a gunner on special teams and earned a two-year extension.

This past March, Morgran signed with the New Orleans Saints but didn’t make the final roster by August. Now, he’s linking back up with Callahan.

Notably, the Bengals will actually see Morgan in less than a month when they visit the Titans in Tennessee for a Week 15 game.

Saints announce a deal with former Bengals WR Stanley Morgan

The New Orleans Saints announced a deal with former Bengals WR Stanley Morgan, who should compete for a role covering punts and kickoffs:

Here’s another veteran added to the New Orleans Saints receiving corps. On Friday, the team announced a deal with former Cincinnati Bengals wideout Stanley Morgan — a New Orleans native who studied at St. Augustine High School. He played college football at Nebraska before turning pro with Cincinnati. And he’s listed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds.

Morgan, 27, spent the first five years of his career with the Bengals as a backup behind stars like Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, totaling just 15 targets in 51 career games (catching 5 of them for 29 yards). But he’s been a very important player on special teams for Cincinnati with 909 snaps covering punts and kickoffs.

So look for Morgan to compete for a role on special teams. The Saints have added two veteran receivers in as many days after signing Cedrick Wilson Jr. from the Miami Dolphins, but that still puts them at less than half the total brought into training camp a season ago. There are seven, maybe eight vacancies still open, so expect more additions.

Bengals make roster moves before Week 10 vs. Texans

Some roster moves for the Bengals.

The Cincinnati Bengals have elevated wide receivers Stanley Morgan and Shedrick Jackson to the active roster for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

This comes on the heels of the revelation that Tee Higgins won’t be able to play against the Texans after injuring his hamstring in practice.

Unless the Bengals make another move before kickoff, it would also seem to hint the team won’t activate rookie Charlie Jones to the active roster after his practice window was opened this week as he looks to come back from IR.

These moves are classified as standard elevations, so both wideouts will revert to the practice squad on the Monday following the game.

Bengals make roster move ahead of SNF vs. Bills

A roster move for the Bengals before the big game.

The Cincinnati Bengals made a minor roster move the day before the team’s encounter with the Buffalo Bills on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 9.

In response to safety Tycen Anderson going to injured reserve with a torn ACL he actually played through the week prior, the Bengals elevated wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr. to even out things for the special teams unit.

Morgan has been a core special-teamer for a while in Cincinnati and now gets to rejoin the active roster and take up that role again for at least one week, with potentially something more long-term coming at a later date. The team could have promoted veteran safety Michael Thomas, too, and figures to fill the open spot on the 53 next week with rookie Charlie Jones.

For now, Morgan is a standard elevation who will revert back to the practice squad on the Monday after the game.

4 ex-Colts named Hall of Fame semifinalists for Senior, Coach/Contributor

Chris Hinton featured among 60 semifinalists for the Hall of Fame Class of 2024 in the Senior, Coach/Contributor category.

Three former Indianapolis Colts players and one former coach have been named semifinalists for the Hall of Fame Class of 2024 in the Senior, Coach/Contributor categories.

This nomination slightly differs from the typical list of Modern-Era players as it pertains to players who haven’t played in at least 25 years.

Per the Hall of Fame:

To assure that older players, whose active careers have been completed at least 25 years, as well as coaches, who have not coached in at least five years, and those individuals who contributed to the game in ways other than playing and coaching, will be considered along with the Modern-Era Player candidates, a Coach/Contributor Committee and a Seniors Committee have been established.

Like the Modern-Era nominees, the finalists for this category still need 80% approval in the voting in order to reach the Hall of Fame.

Here is the quartet of former Colts who made it to the semifinalist round:

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was named a Pro football Hall of Fame semifinalist for the Class of 2024 in the coach/contributor category on Wednesday.

Kraft joins a list that includes the likes of Tom Coughlin, Mike Holmgren, Dan Reeves, Art Rooney Jr. and Marty Schottenheimer. There are 29 semifinalists in all.

There were also 31 semifinalist nominees in the seniors category. One of those included former Patriots wide receiver Stanley Morgan.

Morgan played for New England from 1977-1989. He holds the Patriots’ franchise record for receiving yards with 10,352. He had a total of  557 receptions for 10,716 receiving yards and 76 touchdowns over the course of his career, along with four Pro Bowl and two All-Pro nods.

Both Kraft and Morgan will be up against stiff competition to make the final cut in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but they’re on track for a real shot at getting inducted.

A 2023 profile for Bengals WR Stanley Morgan.

The Cincinnati Bengals added to the wide receiver position twice in the draft ahead of training camp.

But that doesn’t mean a valuable piece behind the big three such as Stanley Morgan will find himself pushed off the roster. Here’s a quick profile on Morgan ahead of the season starting.

Experience: 5 years (UDFA, 2019)

Age: 26

College: Nebraska

2021 PFF Grade: 66.4

Numbers to Know: 853 special teams snaps over 48 pro games

Resume and Outlook: Morgan was a hit with Bengals fans out of college because he broke receiving records at Nebraska, but his fate was always special teams. He broke his way onto the roster that way over multiple seasons and has been a staple ever since. He’s got a serious advantage over rookies trying to make the final 53, though a rookie’s ability to return kicks could play a part. Still, it’s hard to see him losing a spot this summer given his value.
