Stamp Fairtex out of ONE 167 due to injury, scheduled ONE 168 champ vs. champ bout in question

ONE Championship’s atomweight champion Stamp Fairtex is out of a headlining bout at ONE 167, leaving another main event uncertain.

ONE Championship women’s atomweight champion [autotag]Stamp Fairtex[/autotag] is injured and out of her upcoming title fight, leaving a later scheduled champion vs. champion bout in question.

Fairtex was set to defend her atomweight title (115 pounds) for the first time against Denice Zamboanga at ONE 167 on Friday, June 7, in Bangkok, Thailand, but suffered a torn meniscus in training. As a result of the incident, Fairtex has withdrawn from the contest.

The new main event of ONE 167 will be a muay Thai title bout between champ Tawanchai PK Saenchai vs. challenger Jo Nattawut, the promotion announced Tuesday.

“My sparring partner was behind me, and she was going to take me down,” Fairtex said in the announcement. “She grabbed my body and lifted me up, but since she is smaller than me, when she lifted me up, she couldn’t lift me that high, and my leg was still touching the ground.

“Then, she twisted. When she twisted, my leg was still touching the ground, so my knee got twisted. When it twisted, it made a loud noise. So, I stopped immediately and went for an MRI after that. (And the doctor said) my meniscus was torn.”

Fairtex, the first three-sport champion in ONE history, has already undergone successful surgery to repair the torn meniscus and will require a few months of recovery, according to the promotion.

This leaves Fairtex’s headlining bout scheduled for Sept. 6 at ONE 168 in Denver uncertain. She is currently scheduled to face strawweight (125 pounds) titleholder Jing Nan Xiong in a champion vs. champion bout on, but may not be ready to compete.

ONE 168 headlined by Stamp Fairtex vs. Jing Nan Xiong dual champion bout

ONE Championship’s September event in Denver will feature a champion vs. champion bout between Stamp Fairtex and Jing Nan Xiong.

ONE Championship’s return to U.S. soil in September will feature a pair of champion vs. champion bouts.

On Sept. 6, ONE 168 will be headlined by a strawweight title bout between women’s atomweight champion Stamp Fairtex and strawweight champion Jing Nan Xiong, according to a press release from the promotion.

In the co-feature, Jonathan Haggerty will put his ONE bantamweight muay Thai championship on the line against ONE flyweight kickboxing champion Superlek Kiatmoo9.

The event will take place at Ball Arena in Denver and will air live on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET.

Fairtex became the first three-sport champion in ONE history, claiming titles in MMA, kickboxing, and muay Thai. Fairtex accomplished the feat by stopping Seo Hee Ham at ONE Fight Night 14 to win the vacant atomweight title. To build upon her legacy, she will now look to become a two-division champion in MMA.

Xiong will have her say, though. She claimed the vacant strawweight title in 2018, and has since recorded seven defenses. In her last MMA outing in September 2022, Xiong defeated Angela Lee by unanimous decision, capping off an incredible trilogy. She was most recently in action against Nat Jaroonsak in a mixed rules bout at ONE Fight Night 14 last September.

Stamp Fairtex proud of three-sport ONE champion status especially given humble beginnings

Kickboxing, muay Thai and now MMA, Stamp Fairtex has hit the trifecta of ONE Championship gold.

If she wasn’t already a star, [autotag]Stamp Fairtex[/autotag] seemingly solidified her status Friday when she became a three-sport titleholder in ONE Championship, a rare feat

Fairtex (11-2) danced her way to the cage at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, before she handled business and finished UFC alumnus Seo Hee Ham (26-9) in Round 3 of the ONE Fight Night 14 headliner. The win earned her the ONE Championship 115-pound title, which was vacated minutes earlier by Angela Lee’s impromptu retirement.

“I feel very proud and happy that I have achieved the three-sport world titles today,” Fairtex said at a virtual post-fight news conference. “I think I’m the only woman and I’m the first person who has achieved this title.”

The MMA title joins the promotion’s kickboxing title and muay Thai title in Fairtex’s collection. As if the completed trifecta wasn’t special enough, Fairtex received the torch from her idol (and former opponent) Lee in the cage after the fight.

“I was very overwhelmed because it was like Angela herself passing on her belt to me, to receive this championship title,” Fairtex said. “I remember the last time I had a fight with her. She told me herself I would be the next champ, which I feel very honored for that.”

The victory, for Fairtex, would be less significant if not for her journey to get there. Joined by her mother in the cage after the fight and backstage for media obligations, Fairtex couldn’t help but reflect on her humble beginnings and how they shaped her.

“My family, when I grew up, we were poor,” Fairtex said. “We didn’t have a lot in financials. … That’s how I realized I only have my family. My family is all I had, and they will always be there for me.”

Fairtex sported a mouse under her right eye at Friday’s news conference but otherwise appeared to be in good physical condition. As for what or who is next, Fairtex welcomes all comers – after some time off.

“At the moment, I’m not thinking of anyone next,” Fairtex said. “I’d like to take a break, rest, and spend time with my family first. Actually, I’d love to fight with anyone who is on the way. I don’t really mind.”

ONE Fight Night 14 results: Stamp Fairtex folds Seo Hee Ham with body punch for third combat sports title

ONE Championship has a star on its hands. Stamp Fairtex delivered a scintillating body shot vs. UFC alum Seo Hee Ham to win gold.

[autotag]Stamp Fairtex[/autotag] is an undisputed three-sport world champion, something that she didn’t think would be possible before ONE Fight Night 14‘s start.

Her attack of kicks and knees glanced off the body, but the moment she resorted back to the body punches, Ham folded.

ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong was joined by Lee in the cage after the fight in an impromptu passing-of-the-torch moment as the decision was announced. Fairtex, overcome with emotion, thanked Lee, a former opponent and said she always looked up to her.

Fairtex, 25, has emerged as one of the fastest rising stars in Asian MMA, as she wins her third-straight MMA contest. Prior to the addition of the ONE Championship MMA title to her collection, Fairtex captured the promotion’s kickboxing and muay Thai titles.
