John Lineker to make muay Thai debut at ONE Fight Night 18

MMA knockout artist John Lineker will test his striking skills under muay Thai rules in January.

One of the hardest-hitting MMA fighters will test his skills under muay Thai rules early next year.

At ONE Fight Night 18, [autotag]John Lineker[/autotag] will take on a new challenge as he competes for the first time in muay Thai. He will be taking on experienced muay Thai fighter Liam Harrison at bantamweight. A ONE Championship official confirmed the booking with MMA Junkie. The event takes place at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and airs live on Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET on Jan. 12, 2024.

Lineker, 33, was last in action at ONE Fight Night 14, where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Stephen Loman. That win followed a third round finish of Jae Woong Kim at ONE Fight Night 13. After 47 professional MMA fights, Lineker will now try his “Hands of Stone” in muay Thai, and potentially bounce back and forth between fighting disciplines.

“Let’s see how this fight against Liam Harrison goes. If I do well, I intend to keep fighting Muay Thai and MMA,” Lineker said in a comment provided to MMA Junkie by ONE Championship. “I’m going to Thailand 20 days early to train at Lions MMA in Phuket and adapt to the climate and time zone. I did this last time and it worked, so I’m doing it again to be well-adapted on fight day.”

Harrison, 38, has competed on four occasions under the ONE Championship banner, splitting his muay Thai bouts with two stoppage wins and two losses. He will look to rebound from his last appearance at ONE Fight Night 1, where he was stopped by Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.

The current lineup of ONE Fight Night 18 includes:

  • John Lineker vs. Liam Harrison – muay Thai bout
  • Kwon Won Il vs. Shinechagtaga Zoltsetseg

John Lineker set to return at ONE Fight Night 13, meets Kim Jae Woong on Aug. 4

John Lineker will look to get back on track when he returns at ONE Fight Night 13 this summer.

[autotag]John Lineker[/autotag] is back.

The former ONE Championship titleholder and UFC contender has been booked to take on [autotag]Kim Jae Woong[/autotag] in a bantamweight bout at ONE Fight Night 13 on Aug. 4 from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The card will stream on Prime Video.

Lineker (35-10) is coming off his first professional loss under the ONE Championship banner. The Brazilian suffered a fourth-round TKO against Fabricio Andrade for the vacant ONE bantamweight title. The fight took place Feb. 25 in Bangkok and served as the headliner of ONE Fight Night 7.

The bout between Lineker and Andrade was a rematch as the two had also fought last October. That fight ended in a no contest after Lineker was unable to continue fighting due to an accidental groin strike. Prior to that, Lineker was on a four-fight winning streak.

Jae Woong (13-7) also looks to bounce back from adversity. He is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Shoko Sato in January. The bout against Lineker marks Jae Woong’s bantamweight debut.

ONE on Prime Video 7 results: Fabricio Andrade damages John Lineker’s eye for title-winning corner stoppage

Damage from Fabricio Andrade left John Lineker on the stool before the final round, crowning a new ONE Championship bantamweight king.

ONE Championship has a new bantamweight king, and his name is [autotag]Fabricio Andrade[/autotag].

Andrade (9-2 MMA, 6-0 ONE) ran it back with John Lineker in a championship rematch in the main event of ONE on Prime Video 7. The event took place at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and aired on Amazon Prime Video.

The pair first met with the title on the line in October at ONE on Prime Video 3, with unfortunate events occurring for both parties. First, Lineker (35-10 MMA, 4-1 ONE) lost the title on the scale by missing weight, and then the fight resulted in a no contest after Andrade landed an accidental low blow to Lineker in the third round.

There would be a few differences the second time around. A cage served as the competition enclosure the first time, but in the second meeting, the fight took place in a ring. Most importantly, this time there would be a definitive result.

Big shots were traded early in the first round. Andrade looked for knees up the middle while Lineker swung his patented power hooks. Keeping his opponent guessing, Linker also mixed in a few takedown attempts before going back to his power-punching game, once buckling the legs of his Andrade.

Late in the first though, Andrade landed a series sharp punches to the jaw of Lineker, putting him on wobbly legs, but the end of the round came before a stoppage occurred.

The firefight continued in the second round.

Lineker landed a powerful punch that sent Andrade to the mat, but he quickly got back to his feet. The striking exchanges continued until the end of the round, with both men landing their share of kicks and punches.

Andrade stuck with quicker, sharper punches up the middle while attempting to defend the hard looping hooks from Lineker. Body shots were in the mix as well for Lineker, but the snappy left jab and kicks from Andrade scored throughout the third too.

A big overhand right from Lineker knocked Andrade off balance early in the fourth, but he was able to recover and get back to working behind the jab. Intense exchanges continued throughout the round. Andrade busted open a cut on the right eye of Lineker, and excelled in the final moments of the frame.

Between rounds, Lineker’s eye was too much of a concern for his corner. Lineker’s coach opted to stop the fight to prevent any further damage, therefore crowning Andrade the new bantamweight champion after the fourth round.

“It’s been a long journey, I’ve been through so much stuff,” Andrade said during his post-fight interview. “Thank you so much, everyone. This is the best day of my life.”

Andrade, 25, claims gold in his eighth consecutive victory, continuing his undefeated run in ONE Championship. His title-winning stoppage of Lineker marked the fifth stoppage with the promotion.

Lineker, 32, walks away with his first defeat under the ONE Championship banner. The UFC veteran won his four previous bouts with the promotion, including a stoppage of Bibiano Fernades last March to win the title.

Fabricio Andrade: If ‘delusional’ John Lineker comes to fight, ‘I’ll knock him out in the first round’

Fabricio Andrade is confident if things stay on the feet with John Lineker, he’ll take him out to win ONE Championship’s bantamweight title.

[autotag]Fabricio Andrade[/autotag] is confident that if things remain on the feet with [autotag]John Lineker[/autotag], he takes him out.

Andrade (8-2-1) will run things back with Lineker (35-9-1) for the vacant bantamweight title in the ONE on Prime Video 7 main event Feb. 25 at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Their first fight this past October at ONE on Prime Video 3 was ruled a no contest after an accidental groin shot by Andrade rendered Lineker unable to continue. Because Lineker missed weight, he was stripped of his bantamweight title, so only Andrade was eligible to become champion.

Prior to the unfortunate stoppage, Andrade boxed Lineker’s eye shut and had him hurt. The 25-year-old thinks he was en route to a finish had he not fouled Lineker by mistake.

“If he comes to fight, I’ll knock him out in the first round,” Andrade said in an interview with ONE Championship. “But we saw in the last fight he tried to wrestle with me, something we had agreed not to do. … I’m just going to be patient. I’ll be ready to knock him out at any second in the fight.

“I don’t believe he thinks he can win this fight. If he does, he’s delusional.”

Although he didn’t walk away with the title, Andrade is brimming with confidence heading into their rematch.

“This camp was much more enjoyable than the last one,” Andrade said. “I think before the last fight I put a lot of pressure (on myself). … Ahead of this one, I already know I’m the No. 1 bantamweight in the world. I’m coming to the fight as a champion and to finish what I started in the first fight.”

ONE on Prime Video 3 results: Fabricio Andrade’s low blow breaks John Lineker’s cup; fight declared no contest

John Lineker writhed in pain and simply could not continue after taking a hard knee to the groin that broke his cup.

“His cup is broken. His cup has been shattered.”

Those were the words from the ONE on Prime Video 3 broadcast booth as [autotag]John Lineker[/autotag] writhed in pain on the mat after taking a hard knee to the groin from [autotag]Fabricio Andrade[/autotag]. And it was true: The knee was so hard that Lineker removed his broken cup from his shorts.

The illegal blow also abruptly ended Friday night’s main event in Kuala Lumpur as Lineker couldn’t continue, declaring the fight a no contest. With Lineker already stripped of the bantamweight title after missing weight, the result also meant that Andrade – who was still eligible to win the title – couldn’t walk away with the gold.

Not an ideal conclusion for either man, but especially Andrade who might’ve been on his way to a finish after hurting Lineker with a perfectly legal knee before following up too low.

Andrade (8-2) got out to a great start in Round 1 when he started touching up Lineker (35-9) with an assortment of jabs and straight lefts, one of which staggered Lineker. Just as Andrade started to pour it on, Lineker turned into a wrestler and came up with a critical takedown that may have saved him. He controlled Andrade until about a minute remained, and Andrade was back to using his noticeable reach advantage to pelt Lineker with punches. Lineker’s response was to wing overhand punches, and a left caught Andrade before the round ended.

Early in Round 2, Lineker landed a nice combo of four hooks to the body and face. Lineker shot in for a takedown and ate a knee on the way in. When Andrade found his way back to his feet, Lineker continued with his attack, but a key moment came while they were standing, as Andrade landed a hard straight left hand that caused Lineker’s already damaged right eye to close. That allowed Andrade to repeatedly connect in the final minute, which left Lineker with bad swelling. Still, the cageside doctor allowed him to continue.

Round 3, though, didn’t last long. Andrade landed a hard knee to the stomach that hurt Lineker, but when he backed up to the cage, Andrade threw the fateful low blow that ended the fight.
