Jim ‘Mattress Mack’ McIngvale places largest wager, $3.4 million, on Super Bowl 55

Another huge bet has been placed on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into Super Bowl LV

Mattress Mack is hoping the Kansas City Chiefs don’t burn him and his wallet in two consecutive Super Bowls.

The big-money gambler – Jim McIngvale, owner of the Gallery Furniture chain – flew from Texas to Colorado late Wednesday night to wager $3.5 million on the Buccaneers to cover +3.5 against the Chiefs.

“We’re in the game,” McIngvale told USA TODAY Sports by phone Thursday.

According to screenshots provided by McIngvale, the bet is split two ways: one at $3,388,136.54 to win $6,064,764.41 another at $47,863.46 to win $85,675.59. If Tampa Bay covers, McIngale would win $6,150,440.

It’s the biggest bet placed on the Super Bowl this year, according to the Action Network. Another bettor placed $2.3 million, also on Buccaneers +3.5, at BetMGM.

As usual, McIngvale is running a refund promotion around the game’s outcome, similar to what he did during the Houston Astros’ postseason runs in recent years. In 2019, McIngvale bet a $3.5 million future on the Astros to win the World Series, which they lost to the Washington Nationals in seven games, as a hedge.

If the Buccaneers win, customers who spent $3,000 or more at Furniture Gallery on a mattress will get a refund.

“It’s very exciting,” McIngvale said. “The reason I did the promotion is because there is so much buzz on this game because of Brady and Mahomes. Everybody has an opinion. The customers love it.”

McIngvale worked until about 10 p.m. Thursday, boarded a plane from his native Texas and landed in Colorado Springs around midnight, he said. He spent no more than 45 minutes on the ground in Colorado Springs, entering the terminal and heading right back on the plane.

“It was a little cold for a Texas boy,” he said.

Last year, while the stores didn’t offer a Super Bowl promotion, McIngvale lost $1 million per playoff game the Chiefs won on their way to the championship – also a hedge, as the promotion then called for the 49ers to win.

DraftKings’ large handles make it an ideal sportsbook for McIngvale to wager his millions.

“Accommodating and capacity to take a large bet,” he said. “Plus, I’m a huge advertiser, I believe in advertising and their advertising (for the) Super Bowl on Sunday (is) several million bucks so I like people who are marketers.”

Barry Sanders joins BetMGM as celebrity brand ambassador

BetMGM Sportsbook signs former Detroit Lions RB Barry Sanders as brand ambassador.

With Michigan legal, online sports betting recently launching, BetMGM Sportsbook has signed Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders, formerly of the Detroit Lions, to a multi-year deal as a celebrity BetMGM brand ambassador.

Virginia sports betting: BetMGM launches mobile sports betting app

BetMGM launches sports betting platforms in Virginia, joining growing list of legal sports betting operators within the state.

Legal sports betting launches around the country continue, as Virginia legal, online sports betting is now available for Virginia state sports fans. BetMGM Sportsbook debuted their mobile sports betting products Wednesday, January 27.

fuboTV intends to acquire and launch sportsbook, integrate with OTT platform

fuboTV intends to acquire Vigtory sportsbook and integrate with their OTT platform

The legal, online sports betting landscape continues to change on almost a daily basis as new players enter the market and existing players develop new relationships.

Today fuboTV Inc. (NYSE: FUBO) announced they executed a binding letter of intent to acquire Vigtory, a sports betting and interactive gaming company. fuboTV, an over-the-top (OTT) internet television service, previously entered the sports betting space with a partnership with FanDuel Group in 2019.

According to the release, fuboTV expects to launch a sportsbook by the end of 2021. Terms of the deal were not released.

Leveraging Vigtory’s sportsbook platform and igaming assets, fuboTV intends to create a frictionless betting experience for their customers where they’d integrate their sportsbook into fuboTV’s live TV streaming platform allowing a seamless viewing and betting experience.

Vigtory had been in discussions to gain market access within the United States and currently has a deal through Queen Casino in Iowa secured.

fuboTV intends to add a free-to-play gaming experience this summer, per the release. Initially it would be a stand-alone app, but later would be integrated into fuboTV’s user experience. fuboTV also acquired Balto Sports in December 2020.  The free-to-play gaming will be available to everyone, whether or not they are fuboTV subscribers. fuboTV intends to launch a sportsbook app, which would provide current sports betting lines and the ability for customers to place wagers, cash in their winnings and more.

Colorado sports betting: BetMGM launches sports betting app in Colorado

BetMGM launches sports betting platforms in Colorado, joining growing list of legal sports betting operators within the state.

With the legalization of sports betting in Colorado, BetMGM sportsbook has entered an exclusive primary skin agreement with Midnight Rose Hotel and Casino, which allows ROAR Digital, a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings, to offer legal online sports wagering throughout the state of Colorado under the BetMGM brand.

A proposition to allow legalized sports betting in Colorado narrowly passed in November’s election with 50.8% of the vote. Sports betting in Colorado, according to PlayColorado, could generate as much as $6 billion annually in bets and $40 million in tax revenue.

Indiana sports betting: BetMGM launches sports betting app in Indiana

BetMGM launches sports betting platforms in Indiana, joining growing list of legal sports betting operators within the state.

BetMGM sportsbook, a leading mobile sports betting app, launched throughout the state of Indiana Thursday, according to a release by Roar Digital, LLC, which is the joint venture between MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings.

Through a market access agreement with Boyd Gaming, BetMGM enters the Indiana market with their sports betting app, which was previously available in New Jersey and West Virginia markets.

BetMGM, per a release provided to SportsbookWire, offers unique product features, including in-app, live-stream sports events.

Sports betting became legal in the state of Indiana last year when 13 locations (off-track facilities and casinos) were given authorization to take sports bets as of Sept. 1, 2019, which is when mobile sports betting in Indiana was also legalized. Indiana saw $170.8 wagered in January across casinos and mobile betting applications, which set a new state record according to data released by the Indiana Gaming Commission.
