Preseason rankings set for Georgia vs. Oregon season-opener

Preseason CFB rankings are set for the Dawgs vs. the Ducks

With both the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll and the AP Top-25 now released ahead of the 2022 season, we are officially in the final chapter until the return of college football.

The Georgia Bulldogs will start the season ranked No. 3 in the nation in both polls.

Georgia’s Week 1 opponent, Oregon, opens the season ranked No. 11 in the AP Top-25 and No. 12 in the Coaches Poll.

Taking the higher of the two rankings for Oregon, it will be a No. 3 vs. No. 11 battle when the Bulldogs and the Ducks play on Saturday, September 3 in the 2022 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic.

The game will take place in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will air on ABC.

This will be Dan Lanning’s first game as head coach of the Oregon Ducks. Lanning, who served under Kirby Smart as UGA’s defensive coordinator for three years, accepted the Oregon job in mid-December but coached with the Bulldogs through the national title.

Kirby Smart briefly discussed the season-opener during last month’s SEC Media Days.

“I get to open against Oregon, go against a longtime friend, a guy that meant so much in our program in Dan Lanning,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said at SEC media days. “We open against Oregon right here in Atlanta. We’re excited for that opportunity. We get a chance to represent the SEC right off the jump.”

During his first press conference of fall camp, Smart spoke about it again, but this time was focused on his team rather than looking ahead to the battle in Atlanta.

“The last thing I’m worried about right now is Dan Lanning,” Smart said at his first press conference of fall camp. “We’ve got a million battles to face before that, I’m not even thinking about Oregon. Our concern is our roster. How do we build depth? We’re not even thinking about that, we’re so far away from that right now. We’re focused on us, our team, our connection, and getting the right players in the right spots.”

Regarding the College Football Playoff rankings, the selection committee gathered last week to prepare for the upcoming 2022 season.

The 13 member committee discussed protocol and finalized its list of members who will be recused from voting or discussions regarding selected teams.

It also released the schedule for its weekly ranking announcements. The first rankings will be released on Tuesday, November 1, following Week 8 of the regular season. For UGA fans, that will come the Tuesday following the Georgia–Florida game.

The full schedule for the release of the weekly rankings is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 1: 7-8 p.m. ET
  • Tuesday, Nov. 8: 7-8 p.m. ET
  • Tuesday, Nov. 15: 9-9:30 p.m. ET
  • Tuesday, Nov. 22: 7-8 p.m. ET
  • Tuesday, Nov. 29: 7-7:30 p.m. ET
  • Sunday, Dec. 4: Noon-4 p.m. ET

The four teams that will be included in the College Football Playoff semifinals will be announced on Sunday, December 4. This year’s semifinal games will be the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (Atlanta, Georgia) and the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl (Glendale, Arizona). The College Football Playoff National Championship will be hosted in Los Angeles on January 9.

Latest College Football Playoff odds per Tipico Sportsbook

Checking in on the preseason odds for the College Football Playoffs, courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook.

The countdown to the beginning of the 2022 college football season is less than a month away. This means the showdown between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is on the horizon.

Perhaps this game could go a long way in determining whether or not the Buckeyes are among the finalists for the College Football Playoffs in 2022. We know one game can’t make a season but it can sure break it.

With the 2022 CFP in mind, Buckeyes Wire takes a look at the best odds to make the annual four-team tournament. Ohio State definitely makes the list along with the usual suspects including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, and Clemson Tigers.

Tipico breaks down the win total odds for each SEC team

What do the oddsmakers think of each SEC team? We break down the win projection odds.

With the SEC media day session now firmly in the rearview mirror, it is full speed ahead towards the start of the 2022 college football season.

There are plenty of questions at the top of the SEC with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs who have hopes for another collision in the title game. Last year they met twice with the latter getting the upper hand in the national championship game.

The Tennessee Vols are hoping to make a run at the top in year two of the Josh Heupel era. Under Sam Pittman, the Arkansas Razorbacks made a jump and they are looking to continue building in 2022.

We also have the new guys in town with Brian Kelly taking over the LSU Tigers and Billy Napier taking the reigns of the Florida Gators. Not to mention the ongoing storyline of [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and the Auburn Tigers.

The only two schools not listed are the Ole Miss Rebels and Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Odds to win the Big 12 in 2022 per Tipico Sportsbook

Who has the best odds to win the Big 12 according to Tipico Sportsbook?

We’re less than two months away from the start of the 2022 college football season and today we’re looking at odds to win the Big 12.

2021 was the first time the Oklahoma Sooners had failed to capture the Big 12 title since the co-champion season of 2014. After the Big 12’s fiasco kept both TCU and Baylor out of the College Football Playoff, the Sooners took the infinity gauntlet for themselves and said, “fine, I’ll do it myself.”

The Sooners then rattled off six straight Big 12 championships and four College Football Playoff appearances in five seasons.

The Sooners’ losses from 2021 were to the two teams that represented the Big 12 in the championship game. Baylor jumped out to a 21-0 first half lead thanks in part to Spencer Sanders’ four interceptions, but the Oklahoma State Cowboys came within inches (literally) of completing the second half comeback.

Oklahoma went through a coaching change and replaced their quarterbacks from a year ago and still looks like the team to beat in the Big 12. They’ll be challenged by a Texas team that added a ton of talent through the transfer portal this spring. Oklahoma State and Baylor should be tough again and there’s always a team that ends up being a surprise in the conference.

Let’s look at the odds to win the 2022 Big 12 championship courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook. The teams are listed in Tipico’s order.

Where does Oklahoma land?

The best odds to win the Big Ten in 2022 per Tipico Sportsbook

Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State among the best odds to win the Big Ten in 2022. #GoBucks

With just under two months remaining until the start of the 2022 college football season, we are reviewing the odds to win the Big Ten.

Last season the Michigan Wolverines caught lightning in a bottle as they marched towards the College Football Playoff after securing their first conference title since 2004. Can the Wolverines climb that mountain again? Not if Ryan Day and C.J. Stroud have anything to say about it.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are also right at the top of this list. The surprise name that has some of the top odds in the conference is the Nebraska Cornhuskers. We will see if Scott Frost can bring the Huskers out of the doldrums or were the staff moves this offseason all for show.

NBA Rookie of the Year: Paolo Banchero early favorite to win in 2023

With the NBA draft completed, @Tipico Sportsbook has released some early odds for the Rookie of the Year award next season.

The NBA is full-steam ahead toward the start of the Las Vegas Summer League on Thursday as the incoming rookie class will have the opportunity to take the court for the first time.

The top picks in the draft will take center stage with the likes of Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr. all debuting with their respective teams. Fans will even have a chance to see Holmgren a bit earlier as the Oklahoma City Thunder are also participating in the Salt Lake City Summer League this week.

Before those players even take the court, Tipico Sportsbook has already handicapped the class and released some early odds for the Rookie of the Year award next season. The race will certainly fluctuate over the course of the next several months so it will be worth monitoring how things will change in the eyes of the oddsmakers.

Here are the current odds for the 2022-23 NBA Rookie of the Year race.

Big Ten football championship odds from Tipico prove East will reign again

Breaking down the latest Big Ten football championship odds from Tipico Sportsbook, with a great value pick included.

If there is one thing to be said about Penn State going into the 2022 season, it is that the Nittany Lions have the potential to have a really good season. If all falls into place, Penn State could be right back in the thick of the Big Ten championship hunt, but a familiar foe is still considered the betting favorite for this upcoming college football season according to Big Ten championship odds from Tipico Sportsbook.

Despite not coming out on top of the conference last season, Ohio State will be entering the 2022 season as the favorite to win the Big Ten this fall. That should hardly surprise anyone considering the Buckeyes are among the betting favorites to win the national championship in 2022. Ohio State has the third-best national title odds from Tipico behind only Alabama and defending national champion Georgia. And Ohio State’s national title odds (+450) are far better than the next team on the board, Clemson (+1,200) while Alabama is the favorite (+190) and Georgia (+330) is nestled between Alabama and Ohio State.

But back to the Big Ten, where Penn State has the third-best odds on the board to take home the Big Ten championship trophy. Penn State is listed with +900 odds to win the conference. Ohio State is the favorite (-220) and defending Big Ten champ Michigan (+750) is the only other team ahead of the Nittany Lions at this time. The three top teams from Tipico all hailing from the Big Ten East is actually slightly against the grain compared to previous years. This may be a sign that the top of the Big Ten East is viewed much more favorably collectively than the top of the Big Ten West Division.

In some recent years, a handful of Big Ten West teams would receive better Big Ten odds than Penn State and Michigan just because Ohio State was such an overwhelming favorite. It made sense for a Big Ten West team to have better odds as Ohio State was the favorite to come out of the East Division. you can’t win the conference if you don’t qualify for the conference championship game, after all.

But with Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State all coming in with solid odds for the Big Ten title, it may be safe to say the conference will be going through the East Division champion once again in 2022. The division has a perfect record in the Big Ten championship game since the Big Ten adopted an East-West format.

One team perhaps being disrespected by the odds could be Michigan State. It’s possible the Spartans take a step back from their success last season, but being given the same odds as Minnesota and worse odds than Nebraska (and Wisconsin and Iowa) may actually make the Spartans a good value pick if you trust Michigan State to have another strong season.

Here are the full Big Ten championship odds provided by Tipico as of June 20, 2022;
