Prediction

Rockets 110, Hornets 105

Moneyline (ML)

The Rockets (-334) got rolled by the Los Angeles Clippers, 120-105,  Thursday night. It was their second straight loss after winning their previous six games. The Hornets (+260) dropped their past three games, but they covered all of them, losing two by one possession and the other was a single-digit loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.

But we have to PASS THE MONEYLINE because the value isn’t there on either side. The Rockets have beaten the Hornets in 18 of their last 20 meetings, including seven a row. If the Hornets were a (+350) or up underdog, I’d consider betting them straight up. Earlier this season, Russell Westbrook missed the first game, and they still cruised to a 125-110 win. The difference this time is they are playing at home and, since Westbrook is scheduled to miss this game too, I’m predicting a close Houston win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Hornets +7.5 (-106) are better than the Rockets -7.5 (-115) against the spread on the season (32-30 ATS) and recently (5-0 ATS in their last five games). Houston is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games and 29-32 ATS on the season. Plus they are just 14-17 ATS on the road and 7-11 ATS when visiting sub .500 teams. Furthermore, the Rockets are 5-7 ATS when laying 7.5-9.5 points while Charlotte is 5-3 ATS when getting that many points.

I LIKE the HORNETS +7.5 (-106). New to sports betting? Bet $115 on the Hornets -7.5 and earn a $94.34 profit if they win or lose by less than seven points.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Rockets-Hornets game going UNDER 220.5 (100) is the likeliest outcome if Charlotte banks a W in our ATS handicap. The Hornets have a 2-8 Over/Under record in their past 10 games.  Houston has an 8-13 O/U record as an away favorite and Charlotte is 11-13 O/U as a home dog. Sunday is the worst day of the week for the Rockets and Hornets offense, which average 112.5 points per game (Houston) and 96.6 PPG (Charlotte).

The San Antonio Spurs (25-34) travel to meet the Charlotte Hornets (21-39) at Spectrum Center in Charlotte at 7 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Spurs-Hornets sports betting odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Spurs at Hornets: Key Injuries

Spurs at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 11:08 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Spurs 106, Hornets 99

Moneyline (ML)

The SPURS (-150) are the play on the road, assuming Aldridge is able to play. His healthy makes the difference whether you should bet a regular amount or simply go lightly. Either way, the Hornets (+125) and their struggling offense cannot be trusted, even on their home floor.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Spurs ML returns a profit of just $6.67 if they win.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the SPURS (-2.5, -115), as they’re a better value than simply taking them on the moneyline. You have to eat less chalk. Yes, the Hornets (+2.5, -106) have covered three in a row, but they’re 2-3 ATS in the past five at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 210.5 (-115) is the complete opposite of the recent trends for the Spurs. However, they’re banged up in the middle, and again, watch Aldridge’s status before finalizing your play. While the over is 7-2-1 in their past 10 overall, and 5-1-1 in the past seven on the road, the under is 6-1 in the past seven for San Antonio against losing teams.

The under is 7-1 in Charlotte’s past eight overall, and 7-1 in the past eight as ‘dog while going 19-9-1 in the past 29 versus San Antonio. The Hornets rank dead-last (30th) in the NBA in scoring average at 102.0 PPG and field-goal percentage (43.0), too.

The Milwaukee Bucks (51-8) swing by the Spectrum Center Sunday to play the Charlotte Hornets (21-38) at 1 p.m. ET. We analyze the Bucks-Hornets odds and lines, with NBA betting advice and tips around the matchup.

Bucks at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10:45 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Bucks 115, Hornets 92

Moneyline (ML)

NO, NO, NO on the moneyline. Charlotte +625 is outrageous and should be at least +1000. The Hornets have lost their last four games against the Bucks (-1000). Their first meeting of the season was in Paris on Jan. 24 and Milwaukee won, 116-103, but couldn’t cover the -14.5 line. The Bucks are 21-4 straight up when playing as an away favorite.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Bucks -13.5 (-110) sport a 12-7 record against the spread on the road against losing teams and the Hornets +13.5 (-110) are just 2-6 ATS in Charlotte versus winning teams. Charlotte has lost their last three games against the Bucks by more than 13 points and Milwaukee should beat the brakes off of Charlotte again. The Bucks defense allows the lowest field goal percentage in the NBA and the Hornets are 24th in field goal percentage. Oh and the Bucks get the most rebounds per game, so don’t expect a lot of second-chance Hornets points. Plus Milwaukee’s defense will overwhelm a Charlotte team that ranks last in points per game and field goal percentage. It’s BUCKS -13.5 (-110) or nothing on the spread.

Over/Under (O/U)

The Bucks could be extra cruel in this one and drop 140+ points against the feeble Hornets. Poor outside shooting, random turnovers, a lopsided tilt and various other factors could contribute to the Bucks not putting the points needed for the Over to hit. I challenge you to find a player matchup the Hornets can exploit for points. I only lean UNDER -218.5 (-115) because there are too many scenarios where the Bucks-Hornets play at a snail’s pace late.

Knicks at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 7:15 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Hornets 101, Knicks 99

Moneyline (ML)

The HORNETS (+110) were blasted in Indiana by a 119-80 score Tuesday, and now they turn around and welcome the Knicks (-134) to town. New York could be the elixir for Charlotte’s ills. The Hornets are 2-0 SU against the Knicks this season, including a 97-92 win Jan. 28 in the most recent meeting.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Hornets to win returns a profit of $11.10.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Take the HORNETS (+1.5, -106) as short dogs, especially since they’re perfect vs. the Knicks (-1.5, -115) this season. While New York is 10-4-1 ATS in the past 15 games overall, and Charlotte is 3-7 ATS in the past 10 games overall, back the Hornets. They have owned the Knicks this season, and really, New York is the only team they have been able to beat on a regular basis.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 206.5 (-121), which has cashed consistently for both sides lately. The Under is 5-1 in the past six as a favorite for the Knicks, while going 6-2 in their past eight as a road fave. The Under is also a perfect 5-0 in the past five for the Hornets, while hitting in five straight as an underdog.

Nets at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Nets 107, Hornets 98

Moneyline (ML)

Brooklyn (-176) was playing well before the All-Star break but lost an overtime game against the Philadelphia 76ers, 112-104, Feb. 20. Charlotte (+145) is on a three-game winning streak and beat the Chicago Bulls, 103-93, Thursday. The Nets are 2-1 in the season series against the Hornets but lost the last contest 113-108 Dec. 11.

The main factor in this game is Brooklyn’s above-average defense going against the bottom-dwelling Charlotte offense. The Nets are ranked fifth in opponent field-goal percentage and sixth in opponent 3-point percentage. They are going against a Hornets offense last in the NBA in points per game, 28th in field-goal percentage and 22nd in 3-point percentage. Also, Charlotte is 12-17 with a minus-7 point average margin of victory when playing an opponent on equal rest compared to Brooklyn’s 15-14 record in the same situation.

PASS ON THE MONEYLINE because the -176 odds are too pricey for the Nets in the regular season, even though the Hornets should lose.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Charlotte (+3.5, -106) has won three straight against the spread so maybe that’s influencing the line here. Despite it going to overtime, the NETS (-3.5, -115) technically did lose ATS making them ATS winners in five of their last six games so I’m noting it as a bad beat. Brooklyn has owned Charlotte in recent years and the trends back it up. The Nets are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Charlotte and are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 overall meetings.

BET THE NETS (-3.5, -115).

Over/Under (O/U)

For as crummy as the Charlotte offense is, Brooklyn isn’t much better. The Nets rank 19th in PPG, 24th in FG% and 25th in 3-point percentage, and the Hornets defense is mostly average. The 210.5 is a tough total so I’m only LEANING TOWARD THE UNDER 210.5 (-106) because the Under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Charlotte and the combined Over/Under record of the two teams in games with one rest day is 30-36-1.

Magic at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Prediction

Magic 116, Hornets 98

Moneyline (ML)

This matchup pits the Hornets’ (+150) lowest-scoring offense in the NBA versus the Magic’s (-182) lowest-scoring defense, so the edge certainly goes to Orlando, who’s the eighth seed in the East. But, neither team has played well lately—the Magic have lost five straight, including four by double-digits, and the Hornets are 1-9 in their last 10 games—and neither team instills enough confidence to bet on. Charlotte won’t lose forever and is hosting a below .500 team in Orlando, but I don’t see the value on either side.

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE in Magic-Hornets.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Magic have won and covered in the last three games against the Hornets and the previous two wins were in Charlotte. In their last meeting, Nikola Vučević had 24 points and 11 rebounds in the Magic’s 106-83 victory over the Hornets. He should have an easier time controlling the paint with the Hornets rookie big man, Washington, listed as doubtful. Also, in that game, the Magic’s backcourt way outperformed the Hornets’, scoring 36 points on 15 of 26 shots compared to Charlotte’s 19 points on 5-23 shooting performance. Orlando excels against subpar competition, going 8-5 against the spread on the road versus below .500. Plus as an away favorite, the Magic are 4-2 ATS with a 6.5 margin of victory and Charlotte is 8-9 as a home ‘dog with a -5.8 margin of victory.

TAKE MAGIC -4.5 (-106).

Over/Under (O/U)

The pace should be ultra-slow in this one since the Hornets are ranked last and Magic 28th in pace of play. But the total is only 202.5, and in games projected to have a total of 200-209.5, this officiating crew has a combined 5-1 over/under record. And the Over cashed in three of the last four meetings between these two teams. The total is too low, BET 202.5 (-110).

Knicks at Hornets: Odds, lines, picks and betting tips

NBA odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 11 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Hornets 108, Knicks 100

Moneyline (ML)

Charlotte beat New York 103-102 with a game-winning 3-pointer during the final seconds in their first meeting of the season (Nov. 16). Neither team has played well lately—the Hornets have lost eight in a row, including 116-103 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in Paris. The Knicks are 3-7 in their last 10 games, but they have at least been competitive recently. They’ve won five in a row against the BetMGM point spreads so anticipate another nail biter in this Knicks-Hornets game.

The Hornets are fully healthy compared to a Knicks team without their top draft pick in Barrett. Also, the Knicks have played musical chairs with their starting backcourt, and the Hornets have had consistency with Devonte’ Graham and Terry Rozier. The factoid getting my money is that the Hornets have won nine of their last 10 home games against the Knicks. New York’s 6-17 road record is fourth-worst in the NBA. In a toss-up game, this appears to be the major differentiator between the two sides.

BET HORNETS (-115) on the moneyline.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Since the line is only +/-1.5 points, we are going to PASS on a wager against the spread in favor of our moneyline play.

New York is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 head-to-head meetings and 4-1 ATS in the last five games in Charlotte. If you’re expecting the same margin of victory as their first game, these trends help support that bet. But in the spirit of gambling, we are sticking with the Hornets to win outright while blowing off these trends and will disappointingly fork over our money to the gambling gods if the Knicks cover as 1.5-point dogs.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 210.5 (-125) is the only total bet to make. First, and most obvious, is the juiced up Under which is BetMGM‘s way of trying to price us out of the better line. Second, both offenses are atrocious; the Knicks are 28th in points per game and the Hornets are 30th. Finally, both teams play at a snail’s pace; New York has the 21st fastest Pace and Charlotte is last.
