North Dakota State vs South Dakota State FCS National Championship 5 Things To Know

Why NDSU & SDSU will win the FCS National Championship
FCS National Championship Prediction, What’s Going To Happen, History

North Dakota State is like UCLA basketball from 1964 to 1975. The Bruins won ten national championships in 11 years, and now North Dakota State has a shot to make it ten FCS football national championships in 12 seasons, and two in a row after thumping Montana State to win the 2021 national title.

South Dakota State had the team to get it done in 2020, but lost to Sam Houston 23-21 in the FCS Championship. However, it’s had the Bison’s number lately, winning three in a row with the 23-21 victory in mid-October turning out to decide the conference title – the first outright Missouri Valley championship for the Jackrabbits. They’ve never won an FCS national title.

CFN Final 2022 Rankings 1-131

South Dakota State might have an efficient and effective offense, but it gets the job done on defense. There’s a decent pass rush, but it’s the nation’s best run D that takes over games. It all works in perfect sync with this bunch – stop the run, force long third down opportunities, get off the field, let the O control the clock. It gave Iowa everything it could handle in a 7-3 loss to start the season – the Hawkeyes got two safeties and a field goal. and reeled off 13 straight after it.

CFN Experts Picks Georgia vs TCU, NDSU vs SDSU

North Dakota State lost at Arizona 31-28 to go along with the loss to the Jackrabbits. The defense is solid – that’s underselling it; it’s among the best in the nation, but not quite at SDSU’s level. The offense is a force – again.

The attack is explosive, balanced, and can run and run and run behind NFL prospect Cody Mauch at one tackle spot, guard Nash Jenson, and fullback Hunter Luepke – they’re all able to blast away.

In the first meeting, North Dakota State got out to a 21-7 lead at home, and then – after picking off the Bison in the end zone – it was all SDSU the rest of the way scoring 16 unanswered points on three Hunter Dustman field goals and a 16-yard Amar Johnson run. The Jackrabbit defense took over in the second half.

Oregon women’s basketball a 4-seed in early NCAA tourney projections

As things stand, the Oregon women’s basketball team is set to be a 4-seed and have Eugene be a site for the NCAA tournament.

It’s been a successful season thus far for the Oregon Ducks women’s basketball team and the first projections for the NCAA tournament reflect it.

ESPN’s Charlie Creme’s bracketology is out and right now, the Ducks are a 4-seed and will open the tourney with 13-seed UNLV in Eugene. 5-seed Oklahoma and 12-seed South Dakota State are also projected to play inside Matthew Knight Arena.

Oregon, as are 31 other teams, will be in the Seattle Regional. This is a major change in the structure of the tournament. There are just two regional sites with Greensboro, SC being the other site that would host a whole Sweet 16. This is how ESPN explains it:

The women’s NCAA tournament will undergo significant change for the second consecutive season. The field expanded to 68 teams last year. This season, the customary four regional sites have been reduced to two: Seattle and Greenville, South Carolina. The top 16 teams will continue to host the first and second rounds, and the First Four games will again be played at the site of the first-round games to which they feed.

The Final Four is in Dallas.

The other Pac-12 teams included are Stanford (1-seed) 2 Utah (2-seed), UCLA (3-seed), Arizona (5-seed), and Colorado (10-seed).

Oregon State and USC are officially on the bubble.

Of course, there are still two months left in the regular season and a lot can change over that time, for better or worse.

At 11-3 overall, the Ducks have plenty of time to increase that seed and they will continue Pac-12 play this weekend by going down to the desert to take on Arizona State and Arizona.

ESPN’s College GameDay picks their winners for week 7

One half of the Manning-cast joined the crew and made his picks

Multiple top 25 matchups this weekend and two top ten tilts made ESPN’s decision fairly difficult but they ended up heading to SEC country for the No. 3 Alabama at No. 6 Tennessee contest. The crew of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso (welcome back after a two-week hiatus), Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit were joined by Peyton Manning, who needs no introduction. Find out below from the group of Howard, McAfee, Corso, Herbstreit and Manning on who they believe will win this weekend.

Iowa manages 7 points on field goal, 2 safeties in ugly win over South Dakota State

Iowa got to 7 the hard way: a field goal and 2 safeties in a win

A win is a win no matter how ugly it is, right? That is the mantra they will tell you after Iowa downed South Dakota State, 7-3, in its season opener.

What, you wonder is, so strange about a team winning by this score in a game that offenses stumbled and bumbled and went absolutely nowhere?

Well, the way Iowa got to 7 points is the story.

How about a field goal in the first quarter and a safety in each of the third and fourth quarters?

How ugly was it? The teams combined for 288 total yards, or about what happens in one-quarter of a Big 12 game.

The quarterbacks were a combined 21-of-51 for a grand total of 196 yards. Oof.

Hunter Dustman of South Dakota State and Tory Taylor of Iowa combined for 21 punts that totaled 936 yards.

Incredibly, Dustman did not have a punt inside the Iowa 20 and the Hawkeyes still could not score on offense after the first quarter.

Iowa vs South Dakota State Game Preview

Why South Dakota State Will Win

This isn’t just some random FCS team coming in to collect a paycheck.

South Dakota State is an FCS Playoff contender with an offense that’s dangerous enough to give Iowa more than just a push – it has a few playmakers the Big Ten would love to have.

Tucker Kraft is an NFL prospect at tight end, the receiving corps is terrific, and the offense gets back quarterback Mark Gronowski from a knee injury.

The Jackrabbits bring an efficient passing game, a strong line, and most importantly when it comes to dealing with the Hawkeyes, they probably won’t have a turnover problem.

But …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Iowa Will Win

The Hawkeye defensive front isn’t going to give up much.

The offense will still be a work in progress, but the secondary has the playmakers back to be dangerous again, the line will get into the backfield, and the linebacking corps is among the best in the nation.

South Dakota State might have the balance, but the offense will struggle to keep things consistently moving.

The Iowa O line will try to get its groove back after a tough year. This is a program that knows how to fix the glitch – the running game will work against the SDSU front, and …

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

This isn’t going to be a breeze.

The Iowa defense will do its part, but the pass rush from the Jackrabbit line will be a bother in too many key spots for Iowa to get comfortable.

Unlike last year, QB Spencer Petras will be a bit better with the deep ball, the Iowa secondary will come up with a big takeaway, and it’ll be on to Iowa State.

Saints add more secondary depth, sign former Bengals DB Jordan Brown

Former Bengals draft pick Jordan Brown’s agent reports that the defensive back has signed with the Saints, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

Another cornerback has been added to the New Orleans Saints roster. Per his agent Jason Bernstein, the Saints have signed former Cincinnati Bengals 7th-round draft pick Jordan Brown. Brown played college football at South Dakota State, a small school that has produced some notable NFL prospects including Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert.

Brown’s college play was highlighted, touted and recognized. He secured 8 interceptions and 35 passes defended over 51 games played. He also piled on 148 total tackles, 6 for a loss, and forced four fumbles as well. Brown proved he could be an all-around cornerback at his level of play, making him a draftable prospect. He’s lined up at both corner and safety while playing in several phases on special teams during preseason games.

In addition to being drafted by the Bengals, he also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Commanders, and two stints with the Las Vegas Raiders. He has not taken any regular season NFL snaps yet, whether defense or special teams. He’s stuck around on practice squads and earned reserve/future deals with several clubs.

For now, Brown will get an opportunity to get back to an NFL field as early as this weekend against the Houston Texans as a part of the Saints opening preseason action. New Orleans has been managing some lightening of the secondary unit with defensive backs Marshon Lattimore, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Dylan Mabin all missing recent practices. Brown’s presence at the very least, should allow the Saints to continue the rotation they like to maintain throughout this week’s practices.

Twitter reacts to Patriots drafting South Dakota State RB Pierre Strong Jr.

Pierre Strong Jr. is the fastest RB in the draft and he had an incredible 2021 season, with 18 rushing touchdowns.

The New England Patriots added depth to the running back group in Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft by selecting South Dakota State’s Pierre Strong Jr.

Strong Jr. was the fastest running back in the draft with a 4.37 40-yard dash and he’s coming off a season with 1,673 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. James White is returning from a major hip injury, Damien Harris is on the final year of his contract and Strong Jr. could be the future of the backfield alongside Rhamondre Stevenson.

The Patriots looked to get faster with this year’s draft and they have done that with the selections of Strong Jr., Tyquan Thornton and Marcus Jones.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the Patriots’ newest running back.

Michigan State basketball reportedly in touch with South Dakota State transfer guard

Michigan State has reportedly been in touch with one of the top transfers in the portal

Michigan State basketball is still scouring the transfer portal for talent to flesh out the rest of their roster for the 2022-23 season. The latest player they have shown interest in is Baylor Scheierman, a guard from South Dakota State. This was first reported by Jonathan Givony of ESPN on Twitter.

Scheierman was a standout for South Dakota State last year, averaging 16.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game for the Jackrabbits on his way to becoming the Summit League Player of the Year. He is considered to be one of the top transfers in the portal.

Scheirman shot almost 47-percent from three last year and could give Izzo the consistent shooting he has been lacking for the past few seasons.

6 First Round upsets worth betting on in the 2022 NCAA Tournament

Who will be this year’s Oral Roberts?

They don’t call it March Chalk-ness.

That would be way too clunky and doesn’t quite roll of the tongue. In fact, it makes it sound like Kansas wins the whole thing every year. No, no, it’s the madness were all here for—and that means knowing the upsets are coming and still being shocked when they happen.

Each year, without failure, a handful of teams rise up and make a few bettors look like geniuses for grabbing their moneyline odds while the rest of us rip up our brackets.

In 2021, it was No. 15 Oral Roberts and Max Abmas taking down Ohio State as +950 underdogs. This year there are a number of teams who could have similar performances this year in the First Round. Let’s run through them and sprinkle a few ML bets.
